Guild Wars 2
Hey guys. I was lurking for a while and realized there don't seem to be any Guild Wars 2 threads running about. I'm usually a WoW addict but decided to put away my Fire Mage for a while and get some fresh air from a new game -- super new actually, not even technically released yet. Surely there must be some other people here who play (or will eventually play)? [oops] I pre-ordered the game so I got to do the head start thing and already have five characters set up in Northern Shiverpeaks if anyone's interested in joining. :) So far I can honestly say it's a refreshing change from a lot of other MMOs out there and I'm super glad I invested in it. |
With so much hype I'm surprised there isn't a topic already as well, but now there is one, soo... yay!
Anyway... I have looked at small amounts of information on and off, but I'm still on the neutral side of the road. It does sound very good from having to pay only once for 60$, and no subscriptions after that. But, I am still trying to be careful and pick and choose the right games... and I think it won't run well (or at all) on my laptop. I never mind turning graphic settings down as long as it can run without destorying anything. But yeah. I do love how the character creation goes with the choices you make at the start and you have a personal story apart from everyone else. And the events where everyone in the area can just start taking part to get credit or something..? |
Pretty much! I was apprehensive at first as well, but I'm a MMO junkie (WoW, Aion, Cabal, anything that has lots of options to make your character pretty. Still haven't gotten around to Skyrim though...) and got an extra paycheck this month, so I was like "Eff it, I'll try it." <.< The way the story-based questlines go, you always get an option for different responses that further define your character as a person. :) The events thing is cool but frustrating sometimes, like I joined one just while I was passing by at the very end of it, and got a bunch of experience just for standing there for four seconds, so my first thought was "Wow, thanks everyone for doing all that work for me I guess." Haha. |
I'm mainly a WoW payer as well, but I decided to play GW2 since WoW is in the end of an expansion and there isn't a whole lot going on at the moment.
So I've been playing pretty much all weekend. So far I made a Norn Engineer, which is a lot of fun. And I have a lower level Human Thief, which is also lots of fun. I want to eventually get around to playing each of the classes so I can find the one that suits me best. |
True. I'm excited for MoP to be released by I got bored trying to level my hunter, and my recruit-a-friend bonus expired so I don't get an amazing exp bonus when I go on anymore. :( I'm a sucker for anything Norse mythology related so I've been on my Norn Warrior for the last couple of days now (though I'm still only level 10). Next I think I'll be working on my Elementalist when I'm sick of smashface up-close combat. I'm a total damage whore, but damage doesn't compare if the character isn't fun. |
Just started playing this weekend and, [squee]. Where did the weekend go? I had numerous things to do and needless to say I was playing Guild Wars 2 instead. I even skimped off on a shooting competition x3.
I'm currently playing the Crystal Deserts server, a Norn Ranger. I think I'm a level twelve? Everyone thus far's a Norn then? Great minds think alike I say. XunknownX: You should check the system specs for the game, it's a lot of time consuming fun. Maybe an excuse to upgrade if not, no? x3 |
Norn are pretty awesome.
I made a Charr warrior last night to try them out. They're pretty awesome as well. I'm pretty sure the guy who voices Rytlock Brimstone is the same guy who voices Grunt from Mass Effect. Which is pretty neat since the Charr are very similar to Krogan. |
Nonsense; I know! I finally took a break last night though and just watched Lie to Me for a few hours. My eyes needed a rest (from one screen to another, eh?). A shooting competition? Of archery or guns? (Crosses fingers, please be archery. <.<) Arkkath; I feel like the Charr and the little Dobby-looking things are going to be two races I never try, for some reason. I'm excited to test out the Sylvari this week though. Plant people, can't go wrong with that. (Unless there's a fire.) |
I made a Sylvari necromancer and made her skin look dark, barky and kind of rotting. She looks totally awesome.
|
Arkkath - I don't know when or if I'll try another race but if I do it'll probably be the Sylvari.
I haven't been doing the main quest what so ever, I don't think I've met Brimstone. I've been exploring and doing a lot of events. Lylth - x3 That's how it's been for me too! Guild Wars 2, grab a banana, watch Boardwalk Empire. I'll have to force myself to go running tonight. Luckily I can play between classes ^^. I'm terribly lousy with bows. Sometimes I think I'm a health hazard to myself and others x3. Somehow the arrow will probably do a 180 in air and hit someone in the leg. I'm better at rifles and pistols. |
Arkkath; sounds freaking awesome. I have yet to play around with the actual character design process (I got a great name and I'm waiting for everything to die down before I remake the char, for fear of losing the name). Mine will probably be the opposite, lush and natural, hopefully there's a dark tan skin color. Nonsense; XD I'm going to take a bath when I get home (I need to relax, bleh) and after that I'm going straight for GW2. Otherwise I'll just end up laying on the bed and being lazy and unproductive again like yesterday. D: That's still pretty awesome. :) How long have you been training with them? |
Lylth - Oh a bath sounds so lovely. D: Torture, I have class in half an hour! I may be the only one, but I find Guild Wars 2 and napping to be productive x3.
Finally hit level fourteen! I do need to find some new weapons. There was a NPC that was selling long bows yesterday, I honestly can't remember where he/she was... time to walk around aimlessly for awhile. Maybe I'll switch to the main quest soon, I want to get out of the lower level areas before tomorrow when the flood gates open and people pour in. Four years or so. Something around that xD. It's always been more of a hobby than a sport, but hopefully someday I'll be good enough to do more serious competitions. Most of the ones I've done are geared more for fun/learning experiences than anything else. |
Oh, indeed baths are lovely. Mmm. Steamy and relaxing~ (- 3-) At least someone thinks I was productive! :D Though I do think that napping should be a regular part of everyone's day, it's far healthier than what we do now. v.v Congrats on leveling! And yes the whole noobies tomorrow thing, that reminds me, I should try to get my name changed over tonight so I can get on my ranger and try it out a little. It still sounds fun, even if the competitions are for learning. If I had any talents, I would hope they could be in something awesome in weaponry skills. All I have is a ton of blades at home but they're all decoration; hopefully someday I'll master them as a tool, though. Well, I'm off for a bit to play on my warrior. Hopefully I'll at least get to thirteen tonight. |
I wish I had a hot tub. x3 All of that steam and warmness. Especially in the winter when you can get out, shiver in the cold for a moment, maybe jump in a freezing pool, and it resets your body for the hot tub. I always get too warm in the tub after too long, good to take a cold glass of water if your soaking and reading a book ^^. I agree! When we were children we were forced to nape, now we're forced not to. Something wrong with that! It's ageist I tell you.
Best of luck! There was about an hour ago, luckily it didn't take too long to download (41 megabytes or something). I like how they're putting in the updates in little bits and pieces, that way you don't have to wait an hour or two to download some massive file. All it takes a little practice x3. Bob Ross Remixed | Happy Little Clouds | PBS Digital Studios - YouTube And I guess I should get back into the fray. After I force myself to run. Speaking of running, autorun "R" is the bet feature of the entire game. |
I played the first guild wars for a bit. Is it much like that one?
|
Nonesense; Stupid Ageism. (Sigh) Robbing me of my proper sleep. If I had my choice, though, I would choose a nice warm dip in a jacuzzi over a nap. Or combine the two. Though I hear that's unhealthy for some silly reason. Something trivial like overheating and dying from hyperthermia. Psh. Oh, I love that! It's so much more convenient. That's what I liked about WoW, they always did updated when nobody was online because they knew how annoying it was to have to stop playing and chill out for two hours while everything updates. "R" autorun didn't work for me. (Cries) D: Though when my fiancee was playing last night, something caused him to autorun and he couldn't stop no matter what he pushed, so he had to log out and back in to fix it. I thought it was hilarious. XD Lumina; I never played the first GW but I asked a friend of mine who has, and he says, quote, "It's a lot less dry." Me, "That doesn't make much sense." Him, "It's just more fun than the last one. Like a clean version of it with better graphics and it's just better all around." I still don't know what he means, but take that as you desire haha. |
Lumina - While I still own the first Guild Wars I was never really able to get into it. For some reason it felt unrefined, and that probably has more to do with me than the game. On the other hand, Guild Wars 2 feels much like the first. The first Guild Wars for me was like a movie you see that sadly wasn't much good but it had the potential to be absolutely fantastic. Guild Wars 2 is like like that same movie redone and being absolutely amazing.
Just my opinion ^^. If you liked the first, I bet you'll love the new one. Lylth - Let's picket! I love a good picketing but not witch/wizard burning, I've always been partial to those. Unless if there's some British humor shinnanigans going on. I've learned to have Monday Wednesday be my early morning classes and Tuesday Thursdays be my "doesn't start till after lunch time" classes. Been working good so far. Maybe it's possibly drowning? xD Still, I do love napping in the bath! I suppose I'll have to make friends with someone with a jacuzzi/hot tub. A lot of updates can be pushed through while you're playing too, which is fantastic! I could never get into WoW myself >.<. Oh well, I'm enjoying Guild Wars 2. xD Just look at the controls, maybe it's different with you. I did change a lot of the keys so... x3 It's a amazing feature! I'll spend a lot of time running around in the map mode using autorun. That way I can multitask. |
Ah, never a witch/warlock burning, they are such nice people! There's a lovely little metaphysical store in my area that is frequented by some of the nicest Wiccans I've ever met. :D Not the "high school rebellious because I think my parents hate me and the world is stupid" Wiccans, but actual coven practicing Wiccans who spread love and earth-friendliness to the world! Can we make signs for the picketing? I'll use glitter. That gets everyone's attention. Actually, screw the signs. I'll just throw glitter on everyone while yelling at random people "LET ME TAKE NAPS IN THE HOT TUB." That will get the point across. And won't at all get me into jail. Ooh, such a good bonus to have friends with fancy things, as long as they aren't a bad person. Just make sure they're disease-free, hot tubs and the like are complete bacteria farms. <.< (Shudders) I had some relatives who had a really nice hot tub and always offered to let me hang out in it (they had many, many parties), but I always said "No thank you" when really my mind was screaming "NO, YOU TWO ARE SWINGERS. I KNOW WHAT YOU DO IN THERE." "R" worked for me today! I haven't the foggiest idea why it wouldn't let me do it yesterday, but it came in very helpful today. Also, I got to level 13! But I still haven't activated my skill points or traits or whatever that is. I'm probably pretty behind on that. It's all just so complicated, with WoW I can just look up skill builds but with this game everyone's still a noob and there aren't any proper guides out there for skill building. Oh, the 1st World Problem woes of a new game. I believe my late nights are taking a toll on how much I yell in my posts. When I get tired I get ornery and obnoxious. Maybe I'll play some Ocarina of Time and yell at Navi for a few hours. I despise that little fairy. |
I kind of like the trait system. It's pretty different from a traditional talent tree.
As an Engineer, one of my traits is Firearms. Each point in it increases my precision and condition damage. Which makes my crit chance about 50% right now and makes my flamethrower very effective. I'm currently using Healing, Rifle and Rocket turrets and my Flamethrower as skills. |
Seriously, every time I see an engineer with a Flamethrower, I shake my fist at the screen in jealousy haha. Now that I've seen them running around with guns, though, I'm considering deleting my Elementalist and making an Engineer instead, but I'll have to sleep on it. Is the Engineer buckets of fun? |
I'm having a lot of fun with mine. I'd say it my favourite of the classes I've tried so far.
|
Nice. I got on my Thief for the first time today and have had so much fun, it's so powerful, too, usually MMOs tend to screw over the rogue class, but apparently not this one. XD |
But... but... British humor. D: I find that anyone of any creed, preference, and whatnot has the ability to be a wonderful person :D. Not all do, but that's life isn't it? Wait, signs get me thrown in jail? But... glittery signs are so shinny. No, no, I can't live without the signs. Give me signs or give me jail time!
Ew... x3 I like cleanliness. Kill the germs with the bleach and then remove all of the bleach with more soap! Super clean. Yay! Congradulations of level thirteen. It's a amazing thing autorun is. Activate them! There are two points though, one you can add but the other you have to buy and read this book to be able to use them. Adds a lot of power to your character. x3 It is a little confusing, but it has a lot of depth which is nice. I just started leather working as one of my craft trades. It's a lot of fun. xD Navi will make it all worse! Get some sleep. |
@lylth: that makes complete sense! Tell your friend thanks for me. Haha
@admonished nonsense: That's the thing; I felt the same as you when it came to guild wars the first. I lost interest wicked fast. So I was thinking that maybe I would like the second one. The screenshots of it are really pretty! |
Fine, fine, you can have your signs, but I'm taking most of the glitter. I'll make everyone in this town fabulous. That's what I did with my bathtub the other day. I have a paranoia about sitting in a bathtub that isn't completely scrubbed clean. The entire apartment smelled like bleach and cleaning products for a full day, but it was worth it. It was spotless! I was so proud of my fiancee. When it comes to cleaning, he's all or nothing, so after he told me he would be cleaning it for me while I was at work, I knew what I was getting into. <.< Now if we could just do that to the bedroom. It's such a mess. Thanks! I got to seventeen last night. Did you know there are people already level 60? What the hell? These people are on crack, I tell you. Weaponsmithing is what I chose and it's a blast honestly. I see all of the things I can make and I get giddy with excitement knowing I can make that soon. Also, I figured out how to put one of my skills into a "7" slot. XD Yay common sense! I decided against Navi and just passed out on my bed. I think I made the lesser decision. ---------- Post added 08-30-2012 at 08:54 AM ---------- And no problem, Lumina! He was happy to offer some advice lol. |
