I just wish I could manage to feel that way right now about myself. Just knowing that people care is nice, but it doesn't assuage my poor feelings about my situation. I still feel so hopeless...and all the more selfish for it.

Clock struggles with the fact that she is always the one trying with people.
Clock grew up being taught 'treat people the way you want to be treated'
no one ever seems to treat Clock the way that Clock treats them.
and it hurts, unfortunately.
