Sabine nodded. "I understand that," she said quietly. "I don't like it, but I understand. And don't get any ideas, either. I'm not suddenly going to start doing everything you say, either."

"I didn't think you would," Cadr replied. "But I knew you would appreciate knowing why it had to be done."

"I do appreciate that. I wouldn't have agreed otherwise." Sabine looked at him evenly for a few moments. "And no amount of pushing or swearing could make me cooperate."

"I thought so," Cadr replied. "You're too strong-willed for that." He paused for a moment. "That's what I like about you."

Sabine was quiet for a few moments at that. "Did you pick me in particular out of everyone in the village?" she finally asked, looking at him evenly.

"Not at first," Cadr admitted after a moment. "I had intended to look around some and see if anyone struck my fancy. But I ran across you first, and I knew nobody else would be quite the same."

Sabine nodded slowly. Well, at least he was telling her the truth, even if she didn't much like the truth.

"Alright. Fair enough, I guess."

"If it helps any, I didn't know you were Aislin's sister, at first," Cadr added. "I just found you intriguing. It was just chance that you both happened to be picked."

Sabine nodded. "Okay. I'm going to assume you're telling the truth, since I don't think you have any reason to lie to me. But it still doesn't really make me feel any better."

Cadr sighed a bit.

"And I'm sorry you feel that way. I've been trying my best to make you comfortable here. I don't exactly have a temple like Saif does."

Sabine shrugged. "I know I'm more stubborn than my sister, and I don't adapt as easily. I suppose it'll just take time."

"I hope you'll ask if you find you want anything," Cadr said. "I've tried to anticipate your needs so far, but if there's anything I missed..." He trailed off.

Sabine hesitated for a moment before she shook her head.

"Nothing major. At least you remembered food." She shrugged. Really, she had everything she needed. She just needed time to get comfortable there.

"Nothing major implies that I missed something minor," Cadr pointed out. "What did I miss? I'll try to get it for you."

"It's nothing you can get," Sabine said with a shrug. "I'm just used to the house, and used to having Aislin around when I sleep. And I'm used to having things I have to do every day, not just things I can do if I feel like it." She shrugged again, looking off to the side, suddenly uncomfortable.

"I see," Cadr said, thinking. He couldn't get Aislin, since she belonged to Saif. And his nest wasn't exactly big enough to need daily chores done. "Perhaps I can talk to Saif and see if he would agree to let you stay with your sister more often."

Sabine nodded. "Thanks," she said quietly, still looking off to the side.

"My pleasure," Cadr replied. He stretched a little and settled into a hammock that was strung across part of the common space.

Sabine settled in again after a few more minutes, going back to her sewing. She'd noticed that he had a lot of earthy tones in his nest, so she'd run with that.
