Haunted

It’s hard to live in a place where you don’t belong, even harder when you live in a place where you’re the only one who doesn’t belong. That’s the issue with life in Algeron New York and the infamous all boys private school Damion Heights. Looking out the window now this is exactly how Akimo Resengah feels alienated and alone with no one and nothing, but in the same aspect he neither wanted nor needed anyone to him people just got in the way and getting close to them was pointless they always ended up hurting you in the end. The light behind him casts his reflection in the window he hated the way he looked many people said he looked too much like his father who was a notorious mob boss of present day. A young man stared back at him tall and lean but with muscles that didn’t overpower his body. He was known a lot for his handsome features not a day went by that people didn’t stop and stare at him because of it especially the girls when he got the chance to actually get out of this hell he now called home ever since his father had gotten arrested three weeks ago. He brushes a few stray strands of his jet black hair from his eyes which were a dark whine red some even referred to it as blood red which gave him even more of the attention that he hated. With a sigh he walks to the bed glancing at the clock it was almost midnight if anyone found out he was still awake after lights out he’d be in trouble and Damion Heights was known for its punishments as well as for its troubled occupants. So he does the only thing left to do climbs into bed and flips off his bedside lamp.

Morning soon comes along with the watcher pounding at his door “get up! Get up now!”, Akimo lets out a breath and clenches his hands to stop from yelling back like he used to do with his father which normally gotten him a beating. A yawn and a stretch he was out of bed and getting ready. He didn’t bother with his hair it never really got messed up he brushes his teeth then gets dressed in his usual attire of long black pants, a long sleeved white shirt where he would roll the sleeves up to his elbows. A black button up vest and a red tie that highlighted his red eyes even more completed the look along with a black choker that had a small silver paw hanging from it. He was just tying his shoes when a sharp knock on the door makes him pause for a moment before continuing.

“Come on Akimo I know you’re still in there” the voice of Lucky Arrons calls from the hall.

Akimo ignores it still he hated that guy an image of him flashed in his mind he knew exactly how he looked and what he would most likely be wearing. Lucky was tall and lean like Akimo with dirty blond hair that was cut neatly he had blue eyes and was referred to as handsome as well. Right now he would be leaning against the wall with that cocky smile of his and his arms crossed across his chest wearing his usual of khaki pants a white shirt and his black jacket along with his black leather shoes. He would also be wearing his amulet that his parents had left him from an old archeological dig. Akimo sighs if he didn’t answer him Lucky would never go away he was stubborn and arrogant his ego made Akimo dislike him even more. He finally stands and answers the door and sure enough Lucky stood against the wall exactly as he had pictured him.

“Bout time”, he laughs.

“What do you want Lucky”, Akimo asks with a tone of ice in his voice.

“I’m supposed to make sure you actually make it to class on time today”, his tone playful and confident.

“Naturally”, Akimo scoffs.

He turns and starts to take off Lucky drops into step next to him. The days at Damion Heights passed all the same and this one was no different. First was breakfast which Akimo normally skipped then, came The first class of the day which was history in which the two boys had together and of course Akimo noticed people giving him sideways glances and as soon as he would look at them they’d look away and he’d let out an annoyed breath. After history it was French then P.E. (Akimo’s worst and most loathed class). After this it would be lunch and even that seemed to be the same every day had something different but it would be the same every week. After lunch came English which was actually a good subject for Akimo he liked to read and write, math was next he didn’t mind this class he was pretty good with numbers, the last class of the actual school day would come next, science Akimo’s best subject next to English he had always been a bit festinated by the world around him. After normal school was study and other extracurricular activities hall. Then dinner which was pretty much like lunch. After that everyone was to report to their room to do their homework. At about seven the day would end and everyone would be free to do whatever until lights out at nine thirty.

This was it day after day except on weekends then the morning would be study hall from seven to eleven then lunch and the afternoons were theirs to do with as they please. Lights out was pushed back to ten thirty except on Sunday for the next day was classes again. Akimo hated this everything always the same day after day it was driving him crazy and to think he was only a freshman here and it was only three weeks into the year he had a total of four years to look forward to the same thing never ending made everything worse. As if to torture him even more he had every class with Lucky. Lucky was like the anti him his complete opposite and being with him every step of the way made him feel sick. It was like prison to him he was starting to wish he had taken the offer to go into the social services program it would have been less suffering then this.

To make matters worse in three days Akimo was going to court for the trial of his father, in which he was the key witness and would probably be the only one with enough information to put him away for life. The time drags on like years the sick twisted feeling in the pit of Akimo’s stomach rises and keeps rising until he felt like he was suffocating.

“Hey you ok?” Lucky finally asks at dinner the day before the trial.

“No…I’m anything but ok” Akimo hadn’t touched his food all day at meals.

“Worried about tomorrow?” he asks sitting down.

“What does it matter to you” he begins to stand.

Lucky catches his arm pulling him back “It does matter to me”.

Akimo gives him an ice stare. Lucky laughs.

“Always so cold is it really that hard for you to believe someone might actually care about you?” he asks.

“Someone no, you yes” Akimo pulls away and stands again.

Lucky sighs “Akimo look you don’t have to go through this alone it’s not good to keep your feelings bottled up like this”.

Akimo gives him a dark look “I’ve been alone all my life so why start now”.

He turns going back to his dorm room he slams the door the mirror above the dresser rattles on its hook. Akimo pauses and looks at his reflection. The face that stared back at him made him sick. His hand tightens into a fist and before he could stop he drives his fist into the face of the reflection with every fiber of his hatred and disgust…the mirror crumbles beneath his force with a loud crash the only thing holding up the now wooden frame was his hand blood runs down the wall and though the pain doesn’t register Akimo knew he had probably cut himself pretty badly. He pulls his hand back the mirrors frame sinks to the ground behind the dresser. Pain shoots through Akimo’s hand and arm. It doesn’t affect him much he was used to pain both physical and emotional. He goes into the bathroom refusing to look into the mirror over the sink he didn’t need to lose his other hand to. The water stung but felt cool against his skin he takes a deep breath. So much was running through his mind it finally gets to him he closes his eyes the horrible memories come flooding to him yelling screaming things breaking. His hands clench at his head.

“shut up..” he whispers “shut up shut up shut up!” his voice rises he sinks to the floor blood runs down the side of his face a bit.

He didn’t even hear the door open. Arms wrap around him. He looks up into the face of lucky.

“What do you want” Akimo’s voice shaken.

“Well as hard as it is for you to believe I want to help” he smiles warmly.

He reaches up to the sink and gets a wash cloth he dampens it with warm water and wipes away the blood from the side of Akimo’s face and his hand.

“Now stay here for a moment and avoid hitting anything else.” He stands and disappears back into the bedroom.

Akimo looks at his hand the skin bruised and red a small amount of blood still ran from it but it was slowing. Lucky comes back with the first aid kit. He disinfects Akimo’s hand and begins to wrap it in bandages.

“Thank you…” Akimo whispers.

“No problem” Lucky smiles again but it wasn’t his usual cocky smile it was a warm friendly smile.

Akimo takes a deep breath “I’m sorry about what I said before it's just-“

“Forget it” Lucky interrupts “it’s nothing”.

Akimo takes a deep breath and tries his best at a smile. Lucky laughs warmly and Akimo turns a bit red.

“I’m sorry it’s just I’ve never seen you smile before it looks so awkward for you” Lucky laughs more.

Akimo finds himself laughing as well. It felt good to laugh for once the pain fades a bit and Akimo could breath his heart and lungs not so clenched he relaxes a bit for once in a long time.

“I guess it’s safe to say you feel better” Lucky says finishing with Akimo’s hand.

Akimo nods “yeah…I guess I do”.

Lucky smiles “you know you’re really not alone in this…you have me”

Night falls Akimo lays asleep in bed the clock flashes midnight. The door to his room opens and two figures step in wearing black their faces hidden below black hats. One of them reaches into the pocket of his long black trench coat and pulls out something that shines a bit in the moonlight that shines through the crack in the curtains. It was the hilt of a long revolver hand gun. The figure steps closer to the bed where the only witness lay he cocks the gun. He points the barrel at Akimo’s head. He squeezes the trigger…something knocks into him the gun slides to the right the bang that signals the exit of the bullet from the barrel sounds. Akimo jumps searing pain in his right shoulder. He turns to see Lucky wrestling with a man in black for a gun the other man reaches into his coat and pulls out another gun this time aimed at Lucky’s back. Akimo moves quickly he was familiar with fighting since he had been on the streets most of his life while his father was busy with his “business”. His foot hits the man squarely in the side of the head he crumples to the ground the pain in Akimo’s shoulder grows he looks at it his shirt soaked with his blood the bullet had grazed him and deeply. Lucky pulls away grabbing his good hand he pulls him out of the room and takes off down the hall.

“Friends of yours?” he asks.

“Can't say they are” Akimo answers his breath already becoming short from the loss of blood in his shoulder.

They get down the hall Lucky stops him and look at his shoulder.

“We need to get you some help your just proned to injuries today aren’t you” he says.

“How can you be so calm...?” Akimo asks he was used to things like this guns and people fighting but he didn’t see how someone could be so calm at a time like this.

“my old man’s taken me shooting lots of times” he shrugs, “and during that you need to stay calm freaking out will definitely not get you anywhere”.

Akimo just looks at him for a few moments like he was a bit crazy and that in fact is exactly what he thought Lucky was at the moment.

“I have a few questions” Akimo says.

“They’ll have to be answered as we go” he nods back down the way they had come the shadows of two figures were on the hall wall
.
Akimo nods. Once again they move off Akimo was starting to get a bit dizzy. They get to the cafeteria. Lucky takes him inside and gets some napkins to try and stop or at least slow the bleeding.

“You need a doctor” he says.

Akimo flinches and takes a deep breath. They were unaware of the shadows as they pass over the door.

“We need to call the police first” Akimo says, “and avoid those guys”.

“Unfortunately that’s not possible kid”

The voice makes them jump and turn. They were staring down the barrel of the revolvers once more. Lucky swallows. Akimo tenses severely again.

“You two end here” the man in black says…

“What now?” Lucky whispers his throat dry.

Akimo couldn’t speak his heart pounding he knew these men…they were the two his father had been doing “business” with before he had gotten arrested. They were killers who never missed their target and Akimo knew who they wanted to kill and why…him.

“It's too bad you had potential kid” the other man says to Akimo his accent thick and sounded southern.

“I can’t say that’s a complement coming from jerks like you” Akimo says with a dark glare.

He glances at Lucky then near him where a row of silver lunch trays were sitting. The men laugh not catching his glance. Lucky gives a slight nod not much just a slight tilt of his head that he understood. Akimo had to keep the men talking he had to keep them distracted just long enough and hope that one of them didn’t pull the trigger.

“So since you’re going to kill us anyway tell me…it was my father who sent you to do this wasn’t it” Akimo says he felt sick again at the mention of his father.

The first man laughs again “your fathers in jail kid”.

“That’s never stopped him before” Akimo counters.

The man laughs again “alright yes it was your old man who wanted us to come here and silence you”.

“So much for family values” Akimo says with a dry smile and laugh.

The second man sighs “alright enough of your yapping let’s get this over wi-“

But at that moment Lucky who no one had been paying attention to moves forward hitting the man with one of the silver trays he falls hitting his head going unconscious. The first man turns caught off guard he raises the gun at lucky. Akimo was faster he shoots out his leg knocking the man's feet out from under him he to hits the wall and joins his partner unconscious on the floor.

“Wow remind me never to do this again” Lucky says with a relieved laugh his adrenaline still coursing through his veins.

“Me to” Akimo says with a breath of relief.

Only minutes later the scene changes. Cop cars outside loading the men into them and others getting full accounts of what happened that night. Akimo felt cold every muscle tense and now feeling the consequences for his actions. They bandage his arm and soon the excitement was fading like a distant memory, and Akimo sat alone in his bedroom two cops at the door to make sure nothing else happened. He didn’t get much sleep the rest of the night people checking in on him asking what had happened cops everywhere and everyone asking three questions in particular.

What about the trial…did he want it put off…did he even wanted to go through with it at all?

He would always say the same thing…he would rather stop his father now before more innocent lives were put at risk which is what would happen if his father were to go free and without him there they would have nothing on him for the attempted murders of him and Lucky couldn’t be directly placed on his father for he was in jail at the time. They all gave him such sad looks but Akimo didn’t want their pity none of them understood what his father was capable of…but he did…he had lived it for sixteen years of his life. He finally closes the door and locks it for the night which felt like an eternity…

Morning…the day of the trial, people everywhere so many voices and opinions as Akimo reaches the courthouse. The media was everywhere cameras and reporters everywhere. The flashes and yelling voices were getting to Akimo his nerves growing more and more every second it was starting to push him on edge again he was tempted to tell the reporters off but he resisted it the best he could. They enter the building that felt like Akimo the end of everything he was confident that he could do this he was ready and it was time to begin. He walks into the courtroom…there he was. Akimo’s father…he looked as dark and evil as ever and when Akimo walks into the room a bit of shock flares in his eyes of hatred then a dark twisted smile spreads across his face. It made Akimo sick. The trial starts and a dead silence descended on the room. It felt like an eternity before they got to Akimo and when he took his place on the stand and looks out at every face looking back at him especially his father’s it made his insides turn to ice…he couldn’t do this…what was he thinking…getting up here and telling strangers everything.

His eyes then catch a familiar face and suddenly the pain and nerves seems to disperse. Lucky was smiling at him from the back of the courtroom. It was strange but seeing him there gave Akimo confidence. Everything that had happened runs through his mind then replays to the words that Lucky had said to him…your not alone in this...you have me .he smiles and closes his eyes taking a deep comforting breath pushing back all of his worry. He opens his eyes taking one last look around the court room and then focusing a bit more on Lucky then anyone else he begins to tell his story…

It is a good ending but yet it's open incase you do want to continue. It could make a good RP too!

Kiyoto 10-16-2012 08:08 PM

I left it ending cause at the time I did think of making a second one, also to keep the reader guessing, let their mind wander a bit. I never thought about making it a rp o.o.
