"Okay." Tina licked her lips. "Okay. I'll get everything." She pulled a blanket over him and ran off to get a cup, and then to get the mineral water and the blue vial. The only problem was the leaves. She had a crystal rose plant, but it wasn't mature. It wasn't even very big yet. Which she remembered when she went into her garden.
She was so terrified that something in her flipped, and as she watched the crystal rose grew to a full, mature plant that looked at least a decade old. Most of the plants in her garden grew as well, leaving her in a sudden jungle. Bewildered but not willing to question her sudden luck, Tina got the required leaves and dashed back inside to Gold. |
Gold's skin was flickering between the pebbled gold of his previous form, from before the curse, an an alarming ashy gray. The trembling was getting worse, and he was barely able to sit up to see her when she got back.
"Q-quickly," he stuttered. "M-mortar and p-pestle, in the kitchen. C-crush the leaves int-to a fine powd-der. Th-then p-put them in the w-water w-with th-three drops f-from the v-vial." |
Tina did as he said, working as quickly as she could to get everything done and mixed and then helping him sit upright so he could drink. The flickering skin color was freaking her out a bit, but she mostly just wanted to get the antidote in him so he could hopefully recover.
Gold choked and sputtered on the first couple of sips, but he managed to drink the rest of the antidote. He settled back on the couch heavily. His skin evened back out as the trembling began to ease, an unhealthy pale but not the ashy gray or pebbled gold anymore.
Tina made sure the blanket was still over him and went to go get some bandages and ointment for his arm, starting to shake a little bit herself. That had been much, much too close for her comfort.
Gold managed to recover and relax enough to drop into an exhausted sleep right there on the couch. He didn't even stir when Tina bandaged his arm.
Tina, on the other hand, couldn't settle down. She made dinner, and then she made some goodies in her make-shift oven, and then she checked on her now-overgrown garden and spent some time trimming things back. She checked on Gold every half hour, if not more frequently, until he woke up.
It took Gold a while to wake up, and it was nearly the middle of the night when he did. He opened his eyes slowly and sat up with a groan, pushing the blanket back.
Tina had been cleaning while she waited for him, but as soon as she heard him she walked over to check on his arm and check his color, her hands still trembling just a little.
Gold noticed her hands trembling.
"Are you alright?" he asked her quietly as he held still for her. |
"Yes, of course, I'm fine," Tina said, checking his temperature. "Are you hungry at all? Thirsty? I can make some tea for you."
"Tea would be perfect," Gold replied as he shifted on the couch so that he was propped up.
Tina slipped off to go get the kettle and stoke the fire up again, though she couldn't get rid of the pesky trembling in her hands. Really, it wasn't her fault her nerves were shot after Gold almost dying.
Gold relaxed against the back of the couch with a sigh. He would be alright after some more rest. He watched her stoke the fire and put the water on to boil.
"Make sure you have some tea, as well," he said. |
"I will." Tina was quiet until the tea was ready, and then she poured two cups and brought one over to him before sitting next to him.
"Gold, the crystal rose, it wasn't mature yesterday," she said quietly, staring down into her tea. |
"The way you say it implies that something has changed," Gold observed as he sipped at his tea.
"I went in earlier, to get the leaves for you," Tina said. "And it... grew. It looks like it's been there for years rather than months now."
"Well that's different," Gold commented. He thought about it for a minute. He glanced at her and carefully used magic to reach out towards her. He blinked in surprise when the little probe rang against magic that hadn't been there before.
Tina nearly jumped out of her skin when he did that, almost spilling her tea. "What was that?"
"That," Gold said, pulling back the magical probe, "is a very interesting development indeed."
"No, you don't get to do that," Tina said, pulling her knees up to her chest. "You do not get to call that an 'interesting development', you get to explain that to me."
"It happens, occasionally," Gold said. "When one is around others who use magic, for a long period of time... Sometimes they develop some magic of their own."
"So you're saying I can use magic now, to some extent." Tina looked at him, clearly not quite processing that yet.
"It's likely, yes," Gold replied, nodding a bit.
"Wonderful." Tina curled up a bit tighter, ignoring her tea for the moment. "That's just peachy."
