Tina pouted at him. "You're not going to tell me a single thing, are you?"
Gold just raised an eyebrow slightly.
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean," he said. He had been tempted to say that even information comes at a price, but he was much more amused this way. |
Tina huffed. "Fine, be that way," she grumbled. "I was going to be nice and offer to get you lunch since you've been putting up with me, but I'm starting to rethink that now."
"It's very kind of you to offer lunch, but I'm afraid I must decline," Gold said, putting just a touch of regret into his voice. "I couldn't possibly have you spend money on me like that when you should save it for yourself, and I assure you, I'm quite comfortable having lunch on my own."
Tina shrugged, not put off by his refusal. "Your loss," she said instead, grinning briefly at him. "But who knows? Maybe by tomorrow you'll have changed your mind."
"Perhaps," Gold said, quirking a slight grin. "Anything is possible."
Tina grinned at him again and nodded to him before she headed out of the shop to go see if Rachel wanted to grab lunch.
Rachel, however, had already made her way to the diner. She'd ended up finally putting the book down when the desire for lunch overcame the desire to read, and she'd headed out with a recommendation from Belle (the irony of the librarian being named Belle wasn't lost on her) on what to order. So she ended up sitting at the counter of the diner waiting on a hamburger and fries.
Hook sauntered into the diner, grinning at Granny, before he glanced around and slid into a seat near Rachel. He was still dressed rather outlandishly, since he hadn't been in town long. He was just looking for some entertainment at the moment, and the diner looked promising.
Granny gave him a bit of a glare before rolling her eyes and going back to balancing the books. Rachel glanced at him when he sat down and couldn't quite hide a soft snort. Really, a grown man dressing like that...
Hook glanced over at her when she snorted. "Like something you see, sweetheart?" he purred with a little half-smile.
Rachel just raised an eyebrow.
"I was just thinking," she said sweetly, "that National Talk Like a Pirate Day is in April. Not today." |
Hook raised an eyebrow at her. "Is it?" he asked mildly. "Must have mistaken the month, then." Plus he wasn't very fond of modern clothes.
"Mistaking an entire month, that's one I've never heard before," Rachel said. She was toeing the line of flirting, but she tried hard to stay on the right side of it.
"Well, you have now." Hook grinned at her. "Although I must say, I don't normally have such witty conversation partners."
"You must not know too many people who can read," Rachel retorted as she pulled out her phone briefly to check for messages. It was more out of habit than anything else; she knew Tina would have spammed her with calls until she picked up if something was up.
Hook laughed quietly, tapping his fingers against the counter. "No, actually, not until recently." He shot her another dazzling grin.
Rachel raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. She'd dealt with flirts before.
"What rock have you been under?" she asked, turning her gaze back to her phone. |
"Not a rock. I do spend most of my time on a ship, though." Hook smirked. "I'm afraid sailing doesn't leave much time for leisure."
This time Rachel had to quirk a bit of a grin.
"Sailing, and dressed like a pirate," she said. "It's the beginnings of a bad joke, I swear." |
Hook had to roll his eyes at that, taking a sip of his water. "I'm not just dressed like a pirate, sweetheart."
"Whatever you say, Jack," Rachel replied. Because, really, it was just begging for a Jack Sparrow joke now.
"My name is most certainly not Jack." He paused for a moment. "You can, however, call me Hook."
Rachel was about to take the Jack Sparrow joke a but further, but paused and looked at him.
"Seriously?" she deadpanned. "That's... That has to be the most cliche thing." |
"Is it really?" Hook held up his actual hook, the silver glinting in the light of the diner. He knew this land was strange, but apparently people here didn't take the stories seriously.
