Gold smiled back slightly in return and watched her go. Then he looked back at the little bag of cookies. He wasn't used to people doing things like that for him, so he wasn't entirely sure how to react to it. It had been a very long time since anyone had done something nice for him.
It took Tina almost three days to get back, all their stuff crammed into her car and tied down on top of her car. It didn't take nearly as long as she would have guessed to unload and put everything away, and then she flopped over at the kitchen counter.
"So, you look at any jobs yet?" she asked, looking over at Rachel. |
"A few," Rachel replied as she put some more things away. It was mostly her own things she had in the box in front of her. "I figure I'll take the secretary spot at the school, as long as that's alright with you."
"Yeah, go ahead," Tina said with a shrug. "I'd rather work at the sheriff's station than at the school." Because her and crowds did not mix. Her and crowds of small children? Even worse.
"Alright, then," Rachel said. She grinned. "And there are totally still cookies left, just so you know."
Tina laughed and finished putting things away in her room, going to finish up the kitchen and living room next. "Well, that's good to know," she said with a grin.
"So there is proof that I didn't binge on the cookies," Rachel teased. Once she finished putting away her own things, she went to help in the living room. She knew better than to touch the kitchen.
Tina sighed dramatically. "Clearly I made too many for you to finish on your own." She paused. "I'll just have to help you finish them."
Rachel couldn't help but laugh.
"Let's settle in first," she said. "I'm sure you have something already in mind for dinner, right?" |
"I do indeed. I picked up ingredients on my way back." Tina grinned. "So you go get the TV set up and all that, and I'll get dinner ready."
"Yes ma'am," Rachel replied, grinning. Heading into the living room, she worked on setting up the cable box and the TV.
Tina worked on dinner, taking her time and getting used to the kitchen.
"Alright, come eat. Tomorrow we'll work on getting jobs." |
"Alright," Rachel said. Going over, she sat at the table. "Looks good, Tina."
Tina grinned. "Thanks. Should be tasty." She sat down with her food, letting Rachel serve herself. No need to be fancy here.
"It always... is," Rachel replied slowly, blinking at how familiar it sounded.
Tina blinked too, shaking herself briefly. Dinner was quiet, and she cleaned up afterwards.
"So what do you think? Inquire about jobs tomorrow and finish getting set up?" |
"Sounds good to me," Rachel said. She was quiet for a second. "I'm not the only one who got a bit of deja-vu, right?"
"No, you're not. I've been getting deja-vu a lot." Tina shook her head. "But it's getting more familiar now."
"It can't be good for anyone's mental health," Rachel commented.
"Yeah, well, curses can't be either." Tina shrugged. "I'm not too concerned at this point."
"Next time on 'Phrases You Never Thought You'd Say,'" Rachel joked, grinning. She nudged her friend a bit.
Tina snickered and shook her head. "Yeah, really. 'Oh it's just a curse, it can't be that bad for us.'"
"Yeah," Rachel said, grinning. "It's right up there with 'One of my friends is a waitress and also a werewolf.'"
Tina had to snicker at that one, shaking her head. "Yeah, but Red's kind of awesome anyway."
"Yeah, she is," Rachel said. "But it's weird, I keep expecting to see her with the cloak, and then I realize that no, not really. But she still wears a lot of red on her own."
