"So what are you doing up here?" Gold asked after a little while. "I would think you would never want to see the inside of this tower again."
"Making a list of things up here for Rachel." Tina was quiet for a moment. "And I wanted to see if I could trigger any memories, see if I could remember anything else. I still have all these blanks in my memory."
"I see," Gold said. He couldn't fault her for wanting her memories back. "I'm sorry there's nothing I can do to help you remember more."
"It'll come back eventually." Tina shrugged. "And anyway, living here is nice enough." She was quiet for a moment. "It's nice, to not have to worry about finding a place."
"You're welcome to stay as long as you like," Gold pointed out. "The castle is large enough, after all."
"Don't you ever get lonely?" Tina asked, looking at him. "I mean, with this much space, I know I would if I lived here alone."
"The Dark One has never a need for companionship," Gold replied quietly. "However... A man whose family is lost to him does, occasionally, need it."
Tina nodded quietly. "You were married?" she guessed quietly, looking at him. "Or was it just your son?"
"I was married once," Gold admitted after a moment. "A long time ago."
Tina nodded, reaching over and taking his hand. She got the feeling more questions wouldn't be welcome, so she stayed quiet.
Gold let Tina take his hand, grateful that she wasn't asking any more questions. He really didn't want to think about that part of his past any more for the time being.
After a little while, Tina got to her feet, looking at him.
"Come on, let's get out of this tower and I'll start on dinner." |
Gold nodded and got to his feet as well.
"Come," he said. "While you are capable of climbing up through the window of the tower, I'm not." With that, he magicked them both down into the main den. |
Tina grinned at that, not letting go of his hand as she started for the kitchen.
"I wonder if I'll ever get used to being magicked around." |
"Bah, it's nothing more than a parlor trick," Gold replied as he followed her. Once they made it to the kitchen, he settled himself in a chair and set his cane down.
"Parlor trick to you, impossible to most of the rest of us," Tina pointed out, getting out food for dinner and for pastries. "That doesn't make what you do any less incredible."
"Not many people see it that way, I'd afraid," Gold replied.
"I bet they would if they didn't piss you off," Tina said with a grin. "And don't tell me they don't because I know they do."
"I would be lying if I said they didn't," Gold agreed mildly.
Tina snorted at him and finished working on the pastries for the moment, forming them quickly before setting them aside for the moment.
"Well, I doubt we'll have to deal with them. Not for a while anyway." |
"We'll see," Gold replied, watching her work on the pastries. "Although I can't say I'm thrilled to interact with Hook again."
"You don't have to," Tina pointed out. "I am perfectly capable of going to see Rachel by myself, I don't even have to go on the ship."
"You're not going alone," Gold replied, looking at her.
"You're always going to be protective like this aren't you?" Tina looked at him before she sighed. "Well, you can just hang back a little ways so you won't have to talk to him. Or see him."
"I just want to make sure he doesn't do anything to you," Gold replied. He was quiet for a moment. "I don't want to lose anyone else to him."
