No, thank you.

My parents fed me too much as a kid. XD

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 12:56 PM

[lol] Long as you're fed!

I don't think I'd try puffer fish. Unless it was just a tiny tiny piece. XDDDD And a supah reputable place!

Lol, it definitely is a strange food and an acquired taste. I also want to try it at a reputable place. I've seen it for sale at supermarkets, which just sets off alarm bells for me. [lol]

Y'know... I really wasn't either for most of my life. But for whatever reason, I started liking it after I came to Japan. Especially when served as sushi/sashimi, it's so fresh that it doesn't have that "fishy" taste at all. But I've grown accustomed to even fishy fish now and eat fish quite a lot since it's usually in my school lunches.

So I guess I'd say give it another shot if you go abroad, since it might surprise you. [:)]

I could never eat it plain, but if it's on rice, especially with some soy sauce and mustard mixed in, then it's really not bad at all. [:)]

I don't think I can manage to eat that. [gonk] Sort of like Andrew Zimmerman and walnuts. (or was it pecans?)

Athilea Majiri 11-05-2012 01:21 PM

Good morning! How is everyone?

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 01:22 PM

@Ferra: Oh gosh. XDDD Lots of bells should be going off. Heck no to that!

And yah. I think the ... comfort of knowing you don't have to eat eat unfamiliar foods if you don't want to (like in your homeland) can hinder being able to acquire the taste for new foods. My tastebuds have gone through some changes so hopefully they continue in that more appeasing way. [lol]

@Nim-san: You mean DURIAN!?

Walnuts or pecans...? Both of those are pretty alright tasting so I dunno...

Yeah, I dunno. Maybe it was something else but it definitely said "fugu" right on it. Could be different types?

I'm glad I wasn't forced to eat stuff I hated as a kid, but I'm also very, very glad that I snapped out of it in my late teens so now I can eat practically anything. Even if I don't *love* it, I can usually choke stuff down without complaining. My biggest issue now is that my new school always gives me huge portions for lunch and you're given the stink eye if you don't finish everything. [gonk]

OOOH! Durian is a flavor that's really hard to describe. I think I actually prefer natto in some ways just because it's meant to be savory and can be eaten with rice. Durian is kind of a rotten sweet taste, reminds me of the smell of soda syrup mixed with popcorn in the dumpsters back when I worked at a theater. [t2h] But... I'd probably try eating it again to give it another shot.

@Iku: Yeah, durian is another thing he can't eat without spitting it out. [XD]
He's one of the unfortunate ones who find durian bad-smelling instead of delicious-smelling. [lol]

@Ferra: Yeah, I like both of them, but Zimmerman can't stand one of them. [XD] Says he's eaten just about all dishes available made out of it but still can't stomach it.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 01:43 PM

@Ferra: Hmm maybe. You should investigate! \ o /

Dang. You can't ask for smaller portions? D: Or just bring it home with you to eat later? [ninja]

Ewwww. [lol] One of the asian markets here had whole durian in their freezer, and some durian flesh. I wanted to try it.... but at the same time.... yeeeeech. [XD]

Hey Siipu! [:)]

Antagonist 11-05-2012 01:43 PM

Durian is tasty!! It's very rich and creamy and sweet! [eager]

Huh, interesting. I don't mind nuts even if some of them do kind of taste like dirt. I wonder which one he didn't like.

I had durian inside a dessert pancake when I had it so the flavor was a lot stronger than the smell. I can't say it was delicious, but it wasn't the worst thing I'd ever had. The texture was certainly interesting.

Antagonist 11-05-2012 01:48 PM

Yeah, it's kind of like really soft avocado, texture-wise. Sorta. [lol]

I tried durian ice cream once. It was a very...odd flavor. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...mileys/o_O.gif It had the taste right, but at the same time it tasted weird.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 01:52 PM

I wonder if trying something durian flavored first would be better... o wo

Antagonist 11-05-2012 01:53 PM

Depends on the person. o wo
I know some who found that eating something durian-flavored tasted so horrible that they put off trying the actual thing for years...before finally trying it and loving it. xD;

Hey Siipu! [:)]

I'm exaggerating by saying that I'm forced to eat stuff, but people do usually tease you with "mottainai" (don't be wasteful) if they see you've left a lot of food on your plate.

Taking food home isn't really possible for most of it, so I just do my best to pick the plates that are put out with the smallest-looking portions and discretely toss back what I don't want to eat. I'm just not used to it since the staff room at my old school usually had small portions. [lol] My appetite has shrunk.

Antagonist 11-05-2012 01:55 PM

I sometimes use trash like pieces of fat or bones to cover up the stuff I can't stomach. xD

That could be it. That's part of why I want to try it again someday since I have a feeling that fresh durian on its own would probably taste a little different. [yes]

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 01:56 PM

@Nim-san: True, true. P:

@Ferra: Ah. [lol] I'd have to just deal with the teasing until they got used to it~ I can put down some food, it just takes a while. And eating more than I want in one sitting is not a habit I desire. Oof.

Antagonist 11-05-2012 01:57 PM

Some people like it when it's frozen or cold from the refrigerator, but I personally prefer them at room-temperature. :3

Ferra 11-05-2012 01:58 PM

@Iku: Yeah, the lunch breaks are kind of rushed, which is the problem.

Anywho~ I'm super exhausted so I better get some sleep. Night/morning/afternoon all! [zzz]

Antagonist 11-05-2012 02:00 PM

See you later Ferra! [hug]

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 02:02 PM

@Nim-san: Probably make your teeth chilly! [lol]

@Ferra: Ah. Definitely had my fair share of rushed lunches (and breakfasts and dinners). [lol]

Hope you have a good sleep!

Antagonist 11-05-2012 02:03 PM

Yeah, stupid sensitive teeth. [gonk]

Be back in a bit; going to go take a shower now. [ninja]

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 11-05-2012 02:04 PM

Enjoy your shower! \o

I actually need to take my nap. Didn't take it earlier. [ninja]
