Resident Evil

This is a general discussion about Resident Evil. Since it originally began as a game that is why it is in the gaming forum. However, it has expanded to other media such as books and movies.

So whether you want to talk about the games or the movies or even the books: All are welcome here. [:)]

There is one rule here. Please, for the sake of others, follow the rules of the menewsha and refrain from posting explicit materials in this thread.

I used to play Resident Evil... Part four was the last one I played but I have watched others play five and six... which have become more like action horror more than survival horror.... five was more of an action style game. Six returned slightly but still not quite.

The story of Resident Evil Two was the best/ With three tied in
I also liked the first Resident Evil Outbreak-- the second one was a bit over the top for my liking and the chat interface was just annoying

My favorite Characters are Leon and Claire hands down.
I really liked the Degeneration movie with Claire and Leon they did. I haven't seen the new CGI movie they made titled Damnation-- it looks really good though.

Roxxi Shiagami 12-27-2012 05:33 AM

The only ones that I've played are 4,5, and a little bit of 6. (I don't have a 360, so I play with a friend of mine who has one and a copy of the game) I have played the ds version of 1, where they remade it. I haven't finished it yet though.

lol, I have all the movies (even the ones with Jivonvich (sp?) ie Alice). The CG ones are pretty good. The only thing that I had a hard time dealing with (and I know it's to add to the creepiness factor is how dark the second movie (Damnation) is. Just makes it really hard to see.

I even have the books. It seemed like I couldn't get enough of them. In the middle of reading the sixth or seventh one but it's called Zero Hour. I just haven't gotten back to it yet. Been pretty busy and keep forgetting to charge my ereader since I got it as an ebook.

Kole_Locke 12-28-2012 03:38 AM

The series is fascinating for sure... I'm wondering if part six will be the last one.
You should really play part two and three as they both kind of fit together.

Resident Evil Zero is a challenge too... also Code Veronica is awesome!

Roxxi Shiagami 12-30-2012 04:36 AM

I tried playing Code Veronica. I got annoyed with it quickly though because of the controls. I kept running right into the zombies rather than away.

Yea the very beginning is very annoying and I have the same problem, I finally was able to run past them without taking any damage, but the story is very rewarding I think. That first cutscene with the graveyard is a bit hard to start out with, the game is definitely not an easy one. I remember when it came out on the dreamcast, it was revolutionary I thought for its time as was the sega dreamcast for its time.

The controls are difficult to get used to at first... the learning curb is a bit higher... I remember the old resident evil games were quite annoying as they didn't have the quick 180 degree turn and you had to spin around into the direction you wanted to go in... how annoying.

I think Code Veronica really gives Claire more story and of course Chris her brother comes to help her. It's really sad what happens to Steve, another young man who Claire meets while trapped on the island.

Resident Evil: Outbreak was the worst piece of shit game I've ever played :| I get it, it's supposed to be realistic, but for fucks sake, make a working pause screen. If I want to go pee, I should be able to stop the game for enough time to do so.

Roxxi Shiagami 01-02-2013 03:28 AM

Yeah, I heard Outbreak was horrible. A friend and I looked at it, cause we were curious and the associate said don't pick it up. That the game was horrible. So we left it at that. :P

Kole_Locke 01-02-2013 03:51 AM

I liked the first outbreak... the storyline was good I thought... the interface was definitely a little to be desired for sure. I thought the sad ending with Cindy and George was so Romantic how they both refused to escape since they had been infected and stayed with the city to be destroyed ...so sad but romantic.

The second outbreak was a bit ridiculous I thought ... some of the interface was a little better but it was too much as far as I was concerned.

Resident Evil... Plays 2, 3, 4, and 5. I watched someone clear Code Veronica and didn't bother to play on my own. 'twas then only for non-PS consoles and I was not that hardcore to buy said consoles just to play it. Same story for the Resident Evil 0 remake. Really wanted to play that coz Rebecca. *_* Are there any PSN downloads for them? Or maybe the PS3 can read older PS CDs? 8DDD I never played the off shoots since they felt optional for me. The lure of Wesker on some of em were not enough to reel me into getting em. I hope I am not missing much by not... Getting em. *sob*

I recently replayed RE2 and am now clearing ClaireA/LeonB. Just finished LeonA/ClaireB during the holidays to past the time when I had no access to the net and stuff. My PC suddenly refused to function and I was forced to look for other means to pass the time. I was fairly surprised that after a decade, I could still recall the passwords, puzzles and locations of stuff. And oh, I still get those chills and scares like I used to. Still so damn effective.

I still play RE5, mostly The Mercenaries or it's Reunion form though. Normally not right after I had a round or two from RE2 since I end up using the controls from The former and end up messing up hard.

I have not seen the second movie. The live action Alice movies make me cry and when I do watch them, I try my best to just enjoy it as a zombie movie... But it's so hard. I always end up going no, no, no... Water u doing, stahp. But I end up watchin them anyway.

Kole_Locke 01-04-2013 08:09 PM

When you beat Resident Evil Two in the reversed order the storyline is slightly a bit different when you do ClaireA/LeonB
I think it's just a tad easier doing it that way since Leon's shot gun is much better than Claire's bowgun. That bowgun is soooo weak. I hate having to use it against lickers since I always had such a hard time killing or even hitting them with that piece of crap weapon. If you liked part two then you should also like part three Nemesis.

Roxxi Shiagami 01-05-2013 01:28 AM

@whitebeast: you have a ps3? My brother said that they can play ps games but not ps2. (I'm not sure tho as I do not have one, I do plan on getting one in the very near future. :) )

whitebeast 01-06-2013 06:33 AM

@Kole_Locke I played both scenarios Claire A/LeonB and LeonA/ClaireB before and am doing it again, still wondering which is canon though. They never really confirmed it? I do see a preference for ClaireA/LeonB since people considered Claire to be 'the' second generation successor/lead chara, thanks to her direct connection to Chris and her involvement with Sherry.

RE3 was an amazing ride! I wil definitely look into getting it next when I'm done exhausting myself with RE2. I wonder whatever happened to Carlos then after. We all know what became of Jill... Now, how about him?

@Roxxi Shinigami I know that it can play PS and PS2 games, on a game to game basis. I remember PSN has Odin Sphere for download, that's a PS2 game. Just haven't been able to check the PS store coz of the storms and holiday net traffic = net keeps skipping hard.

Roxxi Shiagami 01-07-2013 01:42 AM

Yeah, i saw some games available for download, I just meant the disc versions. :)

I'm not sure which one is canon either. It's cool you can get slightly different perspectives on the game by switching up the scenarios. Carlos is still around, I would have to catch up on the chronicles of the story to find out exactly what because there are websites that basically have just about every character listed in the series and what their status was and is.

You should definitely play Resident Evil Three, another feature that makes that game good is the split second decisions you have to make. For instance the beginning when Brad Vickers is killed, because in 2 you can encounter Brad Vickers as a zombie, so in Three you are at the police station just before Claire and Leon arrive and Nemesis attacks and after it gets its hands on Brad, Jill has to make a decision-- either to "fight the monster" or "run"

Some decisions have more impact on the game direction and the ending so its replay value is kind of high I think.

Roxxi Shiagami 02-03-2013 05:12 AM

Update: I managed to get a ps3 so I've been playing re6. And you're right, Risque and Pweep, family doesn't seem to understand that you can't pause the game when you're playing online. So frustrating. Can't wait till I get a place of my own. What do ya'll think about the online aspects of the game?

Sleeping Lion 02-11-2013 08:51 AM

I love Resident Evil. I rented 4 for Gamecube before I had a 360 (Don't know why I rented 4 out of no where instead of trying 1-3) and fell in love with the game, then I had to try the rest, got the Gamecube remake/ports of Resident Evil 1-3 then bought Code Veronica and Dead Aim. Then bought the Wiimake of Re4, then the 360 HD collection of 4 and Code Veronica.
Wasn't a fan of Re5, me and a friend bought and beat it in one sitting the day it came out.
I have Relations too but not far in it, find it pretty awkward to play on the 3DS.
Burrowed RE6 from a friend, it's alright kind of seems weird and the camera doesn't feel tight enough to the character, feels too far back, wish it played more like RE4.

I actually really liked the wii light gun games too, not sure why but it was nice seeing all the story in a single game.

Never played Survivor though.

Kole_Locke 02-11-2013 04:08 PM

I'm kind of wondering now if they are actually going to do a Resident Evil 7 now....?
Not sure where they would take that storyline too...
might be interesting.

Sleeping Lion 02-11-2013 04:18 PM

Haven't beaten 6 to know but 5 didn't seem that continue-able after killing off the main antagonist.
It's weird thinking about Resident Evil 1 being about zombies in a mansion, to Resident Evil 6 being about world wide bio-terrorism. It sure has changed a lot. I do miss the old horror aspects. I'd like to see a less action-y one made in a tighter enclosed space. Like Revelations but I can't play it on 3ds so waiting for the re-release on 360 hopefully that'll give me what I want.

good news for you, Lion. [lol]

Forgot if it stated in the link, but they are indeed porting Revelations.

Porting Resident Evil Revelations from Nintendo DS to what port I wonder? I haven't read the article yet but will have a look at it shortly...
I despised the rail shooters... it was a lazy way out.... just to do the nice graphics without actually remastering the game... Darkside Chronicles looked good but that was about all i can say for that game lol

Roxxi Shiagami 02-12-2013 03:15 AM

I'm curious as well to see if they do make a resident evil 7, where they will take it and how they will design (whether it would be more action or more horror).

Who knows about Albert Wesker? I know it seems pretty definite that he was killed in 5, but of course you can never keep a good villain down. :P

Kole_Locke 02-12-2013 03:58 AM

I guess only time will tell with Resident Evil Seven so far no rumors or nothing yet... so we just have to keep our ears peeled.

Yes Weskar was an awesome villain for sure! I must say I liked Alexia too from Code Veronica. They still haven't revealed what Weskar did with Steve's body from that game... or if they have I wasn't paying attention lol.
