Steam Powered Giraffe

Has anybody else heard this amazing band yet? Since I'm hopeless and don't know how to just post the video... here's a link instead! XD

Steam Powered Giraffe - Honeybee - YouTube

That's their top song on Youtube. But anyways, I'm obsessed with them! And why not? Their steam powered automatons just like me! I wish I was programmed to be as amazing as they are. Just sayin...

Anyways, what do you fine humans think? Also I've been wanting to find more steampunk bands to listen too, does any know of any? I only really know of Steam Powered Giraffe and Abney Park.. but I really enjoy them, and want to hear some new bands.

So yep, just thought I'd share the epic, and hopefully find some of the Fanmily that's possibly here on Menewsha!

CrossHatch 01-10-2013 04:54 PM

Oh oh, and if anyone from the Fanmily is here, please share some stories about how you heard about them, why you like em, and all of that fun stuff!!

Risque 01-10-2013 09:39 PM

I really enjoy the song you posted! Very mellow. :3

I don't know of any other steampunk bands though. D:

spunky 01-10-2013 09:40 PM

I listened to Honeybee last night. Not bad at all. ^^

CrossHatch 01-10-2013 11:25 PM

XD Yay! More people listened to them! This makes me happy!

There's always more, that is their most mellow song, but they pretty much all are really. They're actually in a contest i guess you could say, to preform at the Grammy's.. so, should they win, and should you watch that, you can even more of an idea about them! lol, if you can't tell I'm rather excited for them about that!

But it's okay that you don't know any other steam punk bands, I don't really know anyone who does! It's not exactly "mainstream"

Screaming Mime 01-19-2013 09:08 PM

I love this <3 I heard about them from a good friend of mine.

CrossHatch 01-20-2013 02:24 AM

YAY!

Always love to meet more fans! I don't know a lot of people who actually like them, so yay for fans! XD

rebeccarave 02-05-2013 08:23 PM

They are performing with Abney Park in Everett, WA April 13th. I don't know where you live, but I thought I'd put it out there. Actually, the whole reason I looked at the poster was because I thought it looked familiar.

Later I remembered seeing your signature all over here on Menewsha!

CrossHatch 02-05-2013 08:26 PM

I had seen the posters for that show, but I can't go, sadly. I live in Indiana.. which is poop, I need to move to San Diego!! XD

Thanks for sharing though!! And yeah, I love my SPG, so I cycle through pics of them for my signature!! lol

rebeccarave 02-05-2013 08:34 PM

Aw, I'm so sorry. That sucks. I was thinking about going, but then I found out I won't be in the area for a while, so I can't go either if it's any consolation.

CrossHatch 02-05-2013 10:06 PM

haha, that does suck. It's too bad you can't go either! I've come to terms with not being able to see them. I'm going to try and go to their show in Illinois in June? I think? Maybe July, I don't remember... that's the closest they'll be to me for a while I do believe. *shrugs*

I really like Steam Powered Giraffe, since discovering them a couple of weeks ago. Brass Goggles is my favourite, at least for the music video.
(Also, I think Rabbit looks like a Drell, and that's fantastic.)

CrossHatch 02-06-2013 01:16 PM

Yay!! I love Brass Goggles, it was the first song I listened too... but Suspender Man has become my favorite! XD
So much good stuff from them, *sighs*

Bearzy 02-11-2013 04:29 AM

I really want to see them live. What they have on spotify makes it seem like their whole show would be so much more than the music.

CrossHatch 02-11-2013 08:15 PM

It is... watching their live videos on Youtube just doesn't cut it... Someday though, I'm not giving up hope!! XD

Steam Powered Giraffe

A few weeks ago a friend told me about a band. He said they had all created personas of outdated, rickety robots and that when they preform they all look and act the part. He then linked me a video of them in action. I really liked the music itself, and the way they move is so practiced that it can be a little unnerving. Especially "The Spine" (The silver one in the brimmed hat), something about his movements seems the most..well...robotic.

Anyway, I figured I'd share my most recent musical obsession with the good people of Mene.

There's a few of us on here who like Steam Powered Giraffe. My favourite is Rabbit. XD

Wonderlands 03-02-2013 01:13 PM

I've listened to that Automatonic Electronic Harmonics HEAPS of times since you posted in that thread. (Thank you so much for posting it!) I love it so much but after listening to the rest of their songs, it's definitely their best in my opinion.

Wonderlands 03-04-2013 09:26 AM

I had no idea there was a Steampunk style of music. I first came across Steam Powered Giraffe on here actually after someone (I can't remembered who, It could have been you CrossHatch for all I know, haha) posted Automatonic Electronic Harmonics in a music recommendation thread. At first I'm like, wow this is weird but then about 30 secs in I fell in love. A few hours later I found myself watching their Steam Powered Giraffe Hour on livestream and I just missed them playing video games. :<
Automatonic Electronic Harmonics is definitely my favourite song but the rest are just so much fun.
I hope they come to Australia one time, that'd be neat. I'd like to see The Jon though since he was in the first video I saw but oh well, I guess Hatchworth is okay. The Spine is my favourite~

Evergreen Goddess 04-17-2013 03:56 PM

I LOVE THEM! Honeybee is one of my favorites as well as Automatonic Electronic Harmonics! I have to say I really love UpGrade and Rabbit. The Spine is really cool though! I tend to watch videos on youtube of them preform live at parks and I love them because they can be funny and i need a good laugh every day!

My boyfriend introduced me to them when he adopted it for his revision in the summer. I like a lot of their stuff. I'd say i'm a bigger fan of The Cog Is Dead though, as far as steampunk tunes go.

ISOS Duke 11-12-2013 10:02 PM

I listened to SPG last year after I saw them at an autograph session at Youmacon last year. I would have to say one of my favorite songs by them would be Automatonic Electronic Harmonics; I'm a big fan of the harmonics in that song <3

I can't say if I really like them or not which is weird. They aren't a band I would listen to as often as say Disney music or even All Time Low, but I don't hate them. I guess they're situational?

If they go to Youmacon next year, I may attend their concert as I heard those are very silly.
