Face Off
Does anyone else here watch this show? I love it!! XD I tried to go to the Syfy forums to discuss the show with people there... but they are all incredibly rude a**holes over there... so, I would rather try my luck here!!
So if anyone hasn't heard about it: It's a reality/competition show on Tuesdays on Syfy channel. They are all special makeup effects artists, and each week they are issued a new challenge, and a new theme and they have to create a character based on that. What they come up with sometimes is just mind blowing!! I have to admit though, I am guilty of watching this show sometimes, just to stare at Glenn Hetrick (one of the judges) because I am sorry, but that man is just too beautiful, and he's such a sweet heart!!! XD Anyways, haha, if anybody else here watches it, I'd love to have discussion buddies after the episodes and what not!!! |
I saw last night's episode because Winter Hue reminded me. XD I was glad who deserved to win, won the first rounds. And to the person who left, well, he deserves that as well.
The overall theme was awesome. I liked some of the entries a lot. I'm looking forward to the next episode! |
I always love it when the right ones win and lose. The judges typically get it right, I rarely disagree with them. I was kind of sad that the first person to leave was from Indiana >.<
The theme was pretty cool, and I heard from Glenn Hetrick, this is supposed to be the best season yet. It's all been recorded for months now, so it's over for all for them, they just have to wait for the live finale. haha. Actually, it's to early for my brain to function, I don't even remember next weeks theme... though there is one thing I don't like about this season, it appears the judges will not be doing walk throughs because of Michael Westmore being there... which is lame. *shrugs* |
If a few things are sacrificed in the name of better entertainment and talent, I'm all for it. This season,I hope there isn't a lot of drama. I left Season 2 early because of it, but watched the season live finale.
According to Wikipedia, the second episode is title: "Heroic Proportions." Based off of the contestants experiences at 2012 San Diego International Comic Con. The winner has their creation featured in "Justice League Dark" issued 16. I'm pretty excited for that! |
Yeah, the drama part is pretty lame. But I really liked the Season 3 contestants... season 2 had WAY more drama! Four should be good. I really hope that the judges still do walk throughs, lol, cause I really like to see Glenn more! Hopefully this is as great of a season as was promised!!
And that sounds pretty cool, I really wish I could go to Comic Con, it is a dream of mine! haha |
Going to Comic Con (NYCC or SDICC) is pretty cool. It's best to know someone else who is going. Not only does it make the trip fun, but you're not going alone. It's overwhelming if you go by yourself.
Totally. It looks like there was some walk around with the judges in the first episode (more like the host and the special guest). But... overall, I'm looking forward to the whole season. One thing about the first episodes... Ice Troll was a bad ass version of the Ice King from Adventure Time! LAWLS! |
Yeah, I can imagine!! I would bring a couple friends... I would absolutely kill to go to Comic Con San Diego, for so many reasons!!!
Nah, I think it will be Michael Westmore all season, she said he would be their mentor all season, which is poop... he's too nice!! At least on previous seasons, when the actual judges went through, they would be critical, but they would also help, and tell them what types of things they look for. Seems more helpful than the hosts daddy walking through. Sure he used to be a big name in the Special Makeup Effects industry, but what has he really done lately?? Glenn, Ve and Neville are doing it now... so I hold their opinions higher than his. But, that's just me! But yeah, I'm totally looking forward to the whole season! I"m obsessed with this show, I almost wish I could be on it!! XD XDD That's funny! I never thought of that before!! I really liked the Desert Troll and the Mountain Troll, those were pretty awesome, but really, they were all pretty good. |
Mountain Troll was the best. The painting, design and overall finished look was the most well received. I would have liked Wood Troll a hell of a lot better if it weren't for the trailer trash tiki get-up. Seriously... a better concept would have been to have him covered-head to toe- in "wood" style designs, like his arms and face. Use nature to cover his manbits and accent the body.
|
yeah, he could have been way better!! Did you also notice how the Volcano Troll... was totally wearing a freakin dunce cap?? I mean really? Even Glenn kind of said on there, it looked like he was wearing a hat! It didn't look like a part of him!! Sometimes I see things on there and just say... really? My dog could have made a better concept than that!! lol
|
The concept was great. It reminded me of some demonic Spartan from Frank Miller's 300. However, the team did not prioritized and they ended up with Volanco Dunce! That was terrible.
|
LOL, i know right? I could have been sooo cool! But it really wasn't a great finished product! Which was sad, cause Volcano Troll could have been amazing... if a different team had it. They covered him in that weird cloak thing, that just looked bad. And completely covered the chest piece they made.
I don't understand what people do on there sometimes. I wish there would be an episodes where the judges show off their skills, that, I would PAY to watch! I also wish Glenn would come back to Indy soon!! XD |
You know... I wouldn't mind an episode with the judges talking about their favorites, hated and down right bizarre entries in the past seasons. Sorta like a, "behind the scenes" slip. Buwahaha. That would be funny, interesting and educating to see what the judges really expect when doing their thing.
|
*nods* That would be amazing!! I wish they would release the series on DVD and have features like that! I know what Glenn Hetrick thinks about a lot of them just from talking to him at Horror Hound Weekend, he's not nearly as much of a hard ass as he acts like he is on the show, but oh well. All the contestants are afraid of him, which is hilarious!!
But I'm always up for more of getting to hear what the judges have to say, it doesn't happen nearly enough. Most of the episodes are the contestants whining about everything! lol |
You met Glenn in person?! That must be awesome. I'd love to meet a celebrity in person, just to get a real feel for who they are. Well, being the hard ass on TV is good for TV. It means more ratings for the show.
But, yea... more judge talkie time would be a good improvement. I'm tired of the whining that goes on. You'd think, by now, future contestants would have realized that the show is hard. It is challenging, and isn't for everyone. |
Yeah, he was such a sweet heart!! All smiles and laughing, joking around. When I got my picture taken with him, I was really nervous, cause I have a huge crush on him too! lol, but standing there, he had his arm around me, looks over, and said, "are ya nervous?" cause I must have been shaking, haha, but i said yes, and he just laughed and gave me hug and said "oh, don't be nervous honey it's okay" XD I almost died! But fangirling out of the way... I did ask him why he's such a hard ass on the show, it's not for the show, that's how he is with everyone who works for him too, he's hard on them to make them do better, but once they show what they can do and prove themselves, he lightens up.
I know right? More judges less whining!! I couldn't agree more!! After 4 years, you know you don't have much time, you know things are going to be difficult, and the judges are gonna be hard on you... get over it, or go home. |
Oh, I see. I can understand where he's coming from. He sees the potential and wants to push it out as much as he can, so the person can do better! That's really cool. I honestly don't know what I would do... maybe be nervous. But, I've always said that I would shake their hand first, and express my gratitude for the work they do. That probably happens all the time, but meh, it's a personal thing of mine...
I'm looking forward even more to Face Off now that I have another buddy to chat to about it. Only two other people in my office watch the show. And, if they miss it, I can't talk about it. I'm like, :| "you see this face? This is the face of disappoint." Of course, I joke with them. Then I spoil by saying they all lost. :D |
Yeah, I really respect him for that. He's not just an ass, he does it for a reason!! But I did shake his hand first, said I was a huge fan. Bought two autographs, but forgot I had a movie for him to sign, so I had to go back and talk to him again later. But he remembered my name, shook my hand again, and when I showed him I had brought Legion, he got all excited, and started telling me stories about the work he did for it, and signed it for me for free! <3 Love him... but anways.. haha
I am too!! I never have anyone to discuss it with!! And like I said, the people on the Syfy forums are douche bags that just want to fight with each other, not a good place at all!! XD That's what I would do though, just mess with everybody who didn't get to watch!! But I don't know anyone else... now I has you to chat with!! XD yay!! |
I never saw all of Legion, but I did enjoy the costume designs. Some of those were really awesome looking. That's very cool.
Indeed! It's one of those "under the radar" or "cult following" shows. You have to know someone who started a conversation about it, or just find someone who does watch it. It's weird, too. It's like that clothing design reality show, but for the geeks and nerds. XD Which is why I really enjoy watching it, unlike those reality shows. |
It is sad that it's like that, but that's true. A lot of people don't watch it. I am glad I decided to start this thread now!! Hopefully others will find this and watch it too!! More discussing buddies!! XDD Too true though, geeks and nerds tend to love that show more. I wish it was on Netflix, I bet my girlfriend and her friends would love Face Off!!
|
I'm glad you made this thread, as well. I was going to soon after Winter Hue reminded me, but I decided not to. XD
I hope others come! It means more discussions about the series. |
Yup yup!! I concur very much!!!
Sadly, I must get ready to leave... so, I shall return at a later date and we can discuss away some more!! XD Take care!! |
I've been watching since the first season aired, I love it. I can't watch this season because I have night classes unfortunately. :'c
|
Elluh; Do you have something to rewatch the program? For example, Comcast onDemand, Verizon FiOS, etc?
|
I didn't even know such a television show existed, when I first saw the title of the thread I thought you were talking about the movie Faceoff with Nicholas Cage and John Travolta.
I thought that was a good movie actually. lol |
XD I guess I should've done something to specify. I forgot that movie existed!! lol
Well, this is a good show too, should possibly try to check it out sometime! =D |
