In a kingdom by the sea, the castle was bustling with excitement as the princess' birthday was just around the corner. Many of the servants were running about decorating or preparing rooms for their guests. But in a quiet corner of the castle, the princess sat in her secret garden near the outer wall of the castle. She sat in the shade of a large oak tree and hummed a melody as she read her book. A dog laid at her side as the blonde princess read an adventure story. Mariki set her book down a moment as she looked at the clear blue sky. "Tikura, I wish I could go on an adventure." Her blue eyes were matched to her simple but still elegant day dress.
The sun was starting to set and the princess knew that someone would be looking for. She patted the top of the dogs head as she started to stand and brush off her bottom. Mariki stood up and started to walk towards the entrance of the garden. Tikura stood up to follow his master. |
Right outside the palace laid a tavern. It was one of the more popular places in town, especially since news had gotten around that the princess's birthday was going to happen soon. Just like always their was going to be a ball. All the villagers seemed happy as they drank and were merry in the tavern. All but one. He sat int he corner and watched everyone. When the occasional person came past him, his hands shot out and then back before anyone knew what was going on. Smiling, he looked down at his hands and saw the money he had managed to grab. "well that is nice." he said to himself.
He looked rather unsuspicious and yet suspicious at the same time. With his cloak up he either looked like a thief, which he was, or a traveler that was just passing through. Sighing to himself, he tucked away the money as he listened to everyone. He needed to get information about the ball, especially if he was going to try and steal some of the royal jewels. |
Mariki walked through the passage to the secret garden into the castle where the maids were making preparations for her bath before her party. The guests were starting to arrive and the whole village started to gather where the princess would make her appearance before the party. Tikura walked along his master as they made their way back to her room. Once the princess made it back to her room, the maids basically swarmed her to start the bathing process. Mariki sighed as the snatched her book away and complained about the dirt and grass stains on her behind.
The villagers had food stalls and a dance near the balcony where the king, queen, and princess would make their appearance. It seemed the whole kingdom was out celebrating the princess' birthday. |
Jasper smirked as he listened to everyone cheering and guessed it was almost time. Standing up, he walked through the tavern, pick pocketing people along the way and once outside his pockets were filled with some money and goods. Smiling to himself, he headed out towards the balcony and watched everyone having a good time. Sure, everyone wanted to see the princess and give her a happy birthday. Everyone loved her and the royal family, except him. To him they were just stuck up people with a lot of money.
As he got closer to the balcony, he started to look around to see where the best point of entry would be. He wanted to get in and get out before anyone saw anything. Hopefully he would get the crown jewels or something, anything that would catch a good prince would be good for him. |
There were guards at every entrance point even one at the servant entrance. Except he was only patrolling it and was gone every few minutes to check on the stable entrance. It seemed the only way was to sneak past the the guard when he went to check on the stable.
Mariki sat in front of the mirror as the maids brushed out her long blonde hair that rivaled the golden wheat in the fields. Her blue eyes closed as the maids helped her put on her undercoats and corset. She inherited her mother's figure but blushed as it seemed her chest would be exposed. The princess could not what for them to be done dressing her. |
Jasper smiled as he saw the one guard patrolling around and watched him slightly as he moved around, blending into the crowd. Once he figured out the timing he knew he had to wait for the right moment. He didn't want to get captured right away, in fact he wanted to be as far away from this place when word got out that he had gotten the royal jewels.
Once he figured out the timing of the guard, he just had to wait for the festival to begin. Right when the princess came out onto the balcony it would give him the best distraction to head into the castle. He just hoped that things started soon, he wanted to get this whole thing over with as quickly as possible. |
Soon Mariki was escorted from her room to where her parents stood, waiting for her. Her mother kissed her cheek and her father kissed her forehead before giving her a hug. The king and queen walked out onto the balcony as trumpets announced their arrival. They waved to the kingdom as the crowd cheered. "Introducing Princess Mariki!"
The curtain opened as the blonde princess walked out onto the balcony. She curtsied as her father placed the crown jewels on her head. The town cheered as she stood up and waved as she smiled at the people. "Thank you for your good wishes." She told the people as they cheered. |
Jasper smiled as he heard the trumpets and knew the time had come. The instant that the guard was away, he slipped into the entrance and slowly started to make his way to the balcony. He had to get those jewels and sure it was risky to do it on a night like today but it was the best he could do. This was the only time that he could get into the castle so easily.
As he made his way through the castle, he stuck to the shadows and made sure that no one saw him. After only a few minutes he was right outside of the balcony. He could hear the crowd cheering for the princess and when he looked out at the balcony he saw it. The crown jewels were right on her head. Now he just had to wait till she moved to come in and then he would jump. |
The curtains closed after the king and queen started to walk towards the ballroom to greet their royal guests. Mariki walked into the hallway and took a deep breath as she closed her eyes. "Well....at least I have a few minutes before the ball starts." She took the crown off her head and looked at it. The most important heirloom of her family was in her charge right now. "Why do we have to have a ball anyway?" She asked herself as Tikura came running in his best collar. The dog sniffed the air and started to growl as he smiled someone who was not familiar.
"Tokura, what's wrong?" She asked as she tried to look where he was growling. Mariki held onto the crown jewels as she looked towards Tikura. |
Jasper smiled as he watched the king and queen walk in and knew that the princess would follow. Sticking close to the wall, he waited and watched as the princess headed inside and stopped right in the hallway. She took off the crown jewel and knew that this would be like taking candy from a baby, a cute baby. Smiling, he crouched down and got ready to make his move when he saw a dog come running over to her. Cursing softly, he waited for a little while, he didn't want to get caught.
Yet he saw his opportunity when the dog turned it's back to him to look at the princess. Dashing out of there, he plucked the crown jewels from her hands before rushing down the hall, heading towards his exit as fast as he could. |
Mariki held onto the crown but gasped surprise as someone ripped the crown from her fingers. "Thief!!" The princess yelled as Tikura took off running after the person who stole the crown from her. She ran off after them after taking off her shoes so she could follow the person better.
"Anyone! Help! Thief!" She yelled kind of glad her parents were already in the ballroom with the other guests. This would be embarrassing for her since she would be responsible for the loss of their heirloom. |
Jasper continued to run down the hall and heard the princess yell for help. Hopefully everyone was too busy with the ball to do anything about this. Yet as he was about to turn down the hall to his exit he saw some guards coming out of it. Cursing, he started to head down the rest of the hall, trying to think of the best way to get out of here.
Yet his mind was getting a little distracted and he wasn't watching where he was going, or saw the guard coming. Running into him, the man quickly grabbed Jasper. Struggling, "let me go, let me go." he grumbled as he tried to get out of his grasp but as he wiggled he found his grasp on the crown loosen and it dropped to the floor. |
The princess ran after him as she tried not to cry. Mariki followed behind the thief as Tikura barked and tried to bite the thief. She noticed a few guards had her cries and was thankful that someone had heard her cries. Her eyes went to the thief as he was caught. A guard picked up the crown and gave it back to the princess.
Mariki looked at the thief and watched as he struggled to get away from the guard who caught him. Her blue eyes stayed on the boy as she thought of what to do with him. "Lock him up. But do not report this to my parents. Seclude him from the other prisoners downstairs. And be thorough on searching for weapons." She said before placing the crown back on her head and walking back towards the ballroom. |
Jasper struggled more as the princess came over to him and then glared at her slightly. He then started to kick at the guards that had him yet nothing weakened their grip on him. The one guard then looked at him and smacked him in the head, knocking him out before looking at the princess.
Once he got his orders he bowed, "yes princess, as you wish." he said before him and the other guards started to carry him away. They took him down to the dungeon and headed straight to the back, where no other prisoners were. Throwing him into his cage, they quickly locked it and had guards posted to watch him till the end he was either killed or released. He was probably going to be killed since that was punishment for touching the crown jewels. |
She ignored the sounds of the thief struggling behind her and kept walking with Tikura at her side. The princess walked to the ballroom in time to be announced to her guests. After the incident with the thief, everything went off without a hitch and the jewels were returned to their rightful place. Mariki returned to her room with Tikura and went through another routine to get her ready for bed.
After curling up with Tikura, Mariki laid in her bed and thought about her day. She thought of the incident with the thief and tried to decide how to punish him. Her eyes closed as she was exhausted from the events of the day. |
Jasper slowly started to wake up and when he saw the brick floor under him he knew he was in trouble. When he tried to sit up, he started to see spots and quickly laid down. Looking out to where some light was coming in, he saw the door and the shoulder of a guard. Groaning, he just laid their, "looks like I got wacked hard." he said softly as he rubbed his head.
Sighing, He slowly got himself into a sitting position and then leaned against the wall. "well I failed." he said softly before closing his eyes, "might as well get some rest." he said softly and slept for a little while, knowing he would probably sleeping forever soon. |
Mariki started to stir shortly after the sun rose in the sky. Her room filled with sunshine before she walked to her bathroom and started her morning routine. She started to think of last night and looked at Tikura as he slept on her bed. The princess knew that she had to figure out what to do with her prisoner since her parents were not informed of what went on. Her blue eyes closed as she blushed a simple navy gown on and started to walk towards the dungeon. Mariki wanted to make sure her orders were followed and then question the thief.
Tikura was by her side as she entered the empty part of the dungeon besides for her prisoner. Mariki looked into the cell to see if he was even awake or if she needed to wake him herself. |
Jasper was fast asleep for a while, the first time that he let himself actually get a good amount of sleep. But like always he woke up when the sun came up, even if he couldn't' see the sun. It was like his internal alarm clock had went off. Sighing, he stretched slightly and laid down on the ground. "well at least the floor is more comfortable then some of the other places I have slept." he muttered to himself.
He laid there for a while but then felt eyes on him. Turning towards the opening, he saw hte princess their and sighed. Slowly sitting up, he looked at her, "well I never thought I would be seeing you again." he said as he leaned back against the wall and watched her. "so what do you want? interrogate me? give me your final words? kill me?" he asked as he watched her. |
Her blue eyes watched him as the thief slept and noticed he was decent looking. Mariki heard his comment about the floor of his cell and watched as he put his back to the wall. "And I never thought someone like you would try to steal from me. I have not decided yet." She asked him as a plate of food was slipped through the food slot of his cell door. "Do you want to die? I rather not get my parents involved because orders of execution go through my father." The princess stood there and sent the guards a few feet away so that their conversation was private.

Jasper watched her curiously and then watched as she placed food through the slot. Standing up, he moved with grace and each step was silent. Picking up the plate, he leaned his back against the door as he ate. "I wouldn't like to die but I know it is the likely hood of what is going to happen to me." he said as he ate and soon all the food was gone. Turning to his side, he looked at the princess. "but it all depends on you, princess, you going to kill me or keep me here forever? I know both of those are what is suited for what I did." he said and he was prepared for either. He had known what he had gotten himself into when he signed up to do this, but he had to at least try.

She watched him eat his food and felt a bit relieved that he did not want to die. Mariki noticed him looking at her and blushed lightly as she thought. "Can you come closer?" Her blue eyes on him as she thought of an option but was not sure if it was a good idea. The princess realized last night she needed someone to protect her but had not found a guard she got along well with. "How are your fighting skills? I mean fighting not running away."

Jasper wondered what she wanted and moved closer that she could see him. His purple eyes watching her curiously as he saw the light blush on her cheeks. But he was pretty sure it was just his imagination, the blush, so he dismissed it and figured she was getting his neck measurements for a noose or something. Yet when he heard her, he thought for a second, "I would say they are decent." he said and shrugged. "I never really bothered to measure how good my fighting skills are." he said as he looked at her and then really wondered how good his fighting was. Sure he had trained for a long time but he never fought, running away meant he could live another day, fighting meant maybe dieting and never seeing the light of the sun again.
