The princess watched him move closer to her and looked at his purple eyes. She nodded before looking over his body and clearing her throat a little. "Well, would you be up for a test of your skills?" Mariki asked as she summoned a guard to her side. "This is Dominic. He is one of the best fighters we have to offer." Dominic took off his helmet and some of his armor to prepare himself for a fight. "If you can defeat him, I will let you go. Hand-to-hand combat only and no shots to the male area. Would you accept these conditions?" Her blue eyes stayed on the man in front of her.

Jasper was surprised to hear her and watched her curiously. When Big Man Dominic came over, he studied him and wondered if he could take him. It had been a while since he had and Dominic looked to be at least a head taller then him. He was going to say no, yet when he heard that she would let him go he watched her carefully, "I have a feeling you have something up your sleeve or something. But I have nothing to lose, so I might as well." he said as he studied Dominic again.

She smiled at him and then looked at Dominic before shaking her head. "I will not interfere with the fight. But if you do win, you will have to promise not to come back here." Mariki said as she had the other guard open the cell. Dominic entered the cell and looked at the thief as the door was locked again. "So remember the rules. And try not to kill each other." The princess stood back from the cell to make sure that she was out of reach. Dominic smiled at the thief and put up his fists in front of him. "Your move, thief." He said with a slight accent.

Jasper nodded as he listened to her and watched as Dominic entered her cell and shook out his limbs. "well I can promise you that their wont be any death." he told the princess. He then slowly started to crouch down and when he heard Dominic, he nodded. IN a flash he was infront of him and was punching him. Yet Dominic was like a rock and punched him back. The battle was simple, speed over power. But it was clear ot anyone that Jasper was at a disadvantage. IN seconds he was pinned down by the giant and in a choke hold. He then tapped the guy on the arm, "okay... okay.. you win." he said as he tried to get air into his lungs. It had been worth a shot, but he wasn't exactly the best fighter. He was a thief, someone made for running and not fighting. |
Mariki nodded her head as she looked at the two men. The princess admired the speed of the thief and watched as he tried to punch Dominic before he was punched back. She waited for Dominic to over power the prisoner but did not have to wait for long. Her blue eyes stayed on the men as Dominic captured the man in a choke hold. "Congratulations, Dominic." Mariki said as Dominic picked the thief up off the floor and smiled at the winded thief. "Good try. Perhaps I should make you a messenger rather than a bodyguard. But can I trust you?" She asked herself before moving closer. "Would you swear your loyalty to me and live here? Or go on living as a thief and die in jail?" Her blue eyes stayed on him as she kept her distance away from the thief.

Jasper gasped for air when he was finally let go and welcomed the air happily. When Dominic pulled him to his feet, he wondered what was going to become of him. Yet when he heard the princess he was slightly surprised. He had never dreamed or thought that a princess would have use for him. "uh sure.. but why would you do this?" he has as he watched her carefully. It seemed kind of too good to be true and he had had this kind of thing happen before. It was great and then it turned out to be a joke or something.

Her eyes stayed on the thief as she waited for his answer and smiled. "Well, you're brave or stupid to steal from a princess. Besides, you're not the ugliest thief I have ever seen." Mariki said with the last part spoken softly. The princess barely knew his name and she was trying to flirt with him. A blush came back to her cheeks as she waited for his answer to her question.

Jasper couldn't believe what he was hearing and seeing. It seemed that the princess was trying to flirt with him or something. But slowly a smirk appeared on his lips and he shook his head, "I am a little bit of both and trust me on me not being the most beautiful thief either. Their are plenty of guys you would never expect to be thieves but are." he said as he looked at her, "but you are beautiful like everyone says." he said as he watched her.

She blushed more at the smirk that the thief wore on his face and looked away. "Thank you." Mariki looked at Dominic as he cleared his throat. The princess took a breath and tried to compose herself before looking at the thief. She extended her hand towards him and tried not to blush more. "Please, swear your loyalty to me." Her voice soft and gentle as she tried not to show her nerves. Why was she so nervous around this man? Mariki asked herself.

Jasper watched her and wondered why she seemed kind of flustered or something. Yet when she turned to look at him the final time she looked composed. Seeing her hand, he smiled and took it into his hands gently. Bowing, in a low voice said, "I swear my loyalty, blood, soul, and life to you, Princess." he said and it sounded like he had spoken those words before. He then kissed her hands gently before letting his hand fall away from hers.

Mariki flushed a little as he took her and nodded as he spoke those words. "May I know your name?" Her heart raced as he kissed her hand but tried to hide her emotions from the man. She took note of the fact that his words sounded rehearsed but said nothing about it. The princess looked to Dominic and nodded before turning her back to the man. "I will have a room prepared for you in the guard's quarters. Dominic will inform you of what you need to know and where things are."

Jasper looked at her and saw a little color in her cheeks. Though he just smiled and bowed to her again, "I am Jasper Springer, and it is a pleasure to know you princess Mariki." he said as he looked at her and then nodded. He then looked at Dominic, "well I am glad to have someone show me around this place." he said as he smiled at Dominic and wondered what kind of place he would get to sleep in. He was use to usually the ground a just a board and blanket.

Her eyes went to the thief as she heard his name and smiled a little. "Jasper..." Mariki said his name softly but faced forward. "You'll train with Dominic and the other guards from now on. Starting this afternoon." She started to walk off to make sure a room was made for Jasper. Dominic looked at Jasper before clapping him on the back. "Let's go. Try flirting with someone other than a princess." He said before walking the other direction from which the princess was walking.

Jasper smiled as he looked at her in the eyes when she said his name but then she turned away. Nodding, he smiled and started to follow but nearly fell over when Dominic clapped him on the back. "hey, I might not get another chance and besides, I want to be able to say that I at least tried to flirt with her." he said as he followed after Dominic. In truth he had never dreamed he would ever have a chance to flirt with a girl like her and was glad he took the chance too.

Dominic looked at the new guard and placed a hand on his shoulder. "It would be better if you did not try to do that again." He said as he lead him out of the prison and towards the stables area. "We have an area behind the stables. It includes a mess hall, a training area, and where we sleep." The older soldier walked with his new recruit into the barracks where they would sleep. "We normally train in the morning and in the afternoon after lunch. Dinner is after training is over. Then the night is ours."

Jasper smirked, "well that is the thing, I dont know better sometimes." he said softly as he followed him. He looked around and had to admire everything, it was so... Rich looking. He had never had anything like this in his life. LIstening to Dominic, he nodded and smiled, "so what should i do for the rest of the day? wonder around? sleep? train?" he asked as he wondered what to do now.

The guard smiled at his comment before walking towards the training area. Dominic tossed a tunic with the royal seal on it. "Why don't you go explore the castle? The princess is usually in the garden, the queen in her library, and the king in the throne room. So keep away from them. Got it?" He said knowing that Jasper would probably look for the princess. "By the way, if you try to steal anything, you won't be as lucky." His brown eyes were full of seriousness before walking away.

Jasper caught the tunic as he tossed him it and looked it over. He had never imagined that he would ever wear anything like this. But hearing him, he nodded, "okay, I guess I will." he said as he continued to look at the Tunic. He then smirked slightly, "I will try not too, but old habits die hard." he said and once he was out of hte room he changed into the tunic. It was nice, but it was kind of plane. Grabbing his cloak off of the gorund he put it on and smiled, "now lets go see what is around." he said before heading off into the castle. Just like he said, old habits die hard and before he knew he was sneaking around hte place like a thief, on his way to go check out what the princess was doing.

She was sitting in the garden reading a book with Tikura at her side. Mariki sat in the sunlight surrounded by the roses she helped plant last year. Her attention was on her book and did not notice that someone was watching her. The princess started to hum as she set her book down and pet Tikura's side. "What should we do, today?" Mariki asked as she closed her eyes and leaned against the garden's wall.

Jasper smiled as he found the garden and slowly made his way over to her, "you know, I doubted I would ever see a place like this in my entire life. But now look at me." he said as he walked over and soon stood infront of her. "and I hope I am not disturbing, but I was wondering if you could show me around." he said as he looked at her and hoped the dog wouldn't try to attack him or anything.

Mariki looked up as he spoke to her and gasped a bit in surprise. Tikura stood up and started to growl at Jasper before Mariki put her hand on his back. "Relax, my friend." She said to her dog. Her eyes stayed on her new guard and looked around before walking over to him. "You know should announce your presence from now on. Sneaking up on people is not a smart thing to do." The princess said as she gave him a half-hearted scowl.

Jasper chuckled when he saw her gasp slightly and her dog start to growl. Hearing her, he just shrugged, "sorry, kind of a habit I have gotten into. Being a thief taught me to almost always make sure that you can hide your presence." he said as he looked at her and gave her a smile. "but sorry if I scared you, promise not to do it again." he said simply as he tried to make her feel better.

The princess nodded and looked down at the ground. "Well, make sure you fix that habit. Otherwise, you might get yourself killed. Some people do not like surprises." Mariki said as she looked up at him. Her heart fluttered a bit at his smile but tried to ignore since he was at a lower station than her. "You could have asked Dominic for a tour. Does he know you're here?" She asked as Tikura moved to stand closer to his master. The dog focused his eyes on the stranger talking to his master.

Jasper smiled when he heard her, "well so far many people have wanted to kill me, but as you can see I am still alive and breathing. Sure I have a few scrapes here and there but nothing big." he said as he looked at her. He then shrugged, "he didn't want to deal with me and kind of just let me go after showing me around and telling me everything. Said I was free to explore the castle and that is what I am doing." he said and then looked at the dog. Digging into the hidden pocket of his cloak he pulled out some bread, he wondered if the dog would like it.

She shook her head while listening to Jasper. "Just be more careful." Mariki said but kind of laughed at the thought that Dominic did not want anything to do with him. "That makes sense." The blonde turned her back to the thief but Tikura focused on him and growled a little as the thief started to dig in his pocket. Her blue eyes went to the dog then to Jasper and wondered what he was doing. "Tikura doesn't like you from your first impression." She stated before retrieving her book and walking back to Jasper. "See we've learned that it is not easy to trust someone who has fooled us once." The princess walked towards the entrance of the garden with Tikura behind her.
