Quitting smoking

Does anyone else find quitting cigarettes after years of smoking is still very easy?? because to me its really just like "hey, dont buy any cigs" then i dont have any and i dont need them because theyre not a necessity. [whatev]

I've gone weeks without a cigarette before and I was fine.
But hell, I was just broke. I didn't want to quit. xD
...and I'm not. I love me some cancer. ;D <3

I don't smoke but my mother and partner does. They can drop and pick it up any time and have no issues with it. They can feel the nicotine withdrawal and that but it doesn't make them do anything.

Hm, i just think they should make tobacco illegal and marijuana legal for recreation. Its a lot safer alternative to cigarettes and tobacco, not smoking in general.

la bonne fille 02-09-2013 11:56 PM

I don't think they will make tobacco illegal.
I think it's a really big money grabber.

I'm able to start and stop without much thought, which is ironic as my husband is the exact opposite. I still enjoy a clove cigarette/cigar (Cigar is misleading as it is small and cigarette like but whatever) every now and again. Yes it's bad for you, but something about it is soothing.

I don't have any personal experience with smoking, but its a long chain of smokers in my family!
My father started when he was 15, never stopped.
My grandfather, started with he was 12, never stopped until the day he died.
And my mother was starting, but then stopped because I asked her when I was younger if she wanted to die early and not see us live our lives. (My brother and I.)
That made her stop real quick! cx
(Also, I was young and my aunt made me ask her, haha. We laugh at it now.)

caseyur 02-10-2013 11:12 PM

haha yeah has anyone else notice all old people who still smoke started when they were like 11 or 12. When i was at work some old guy told me he started when he was about 12, and i was like wow lol. I bet he has some serious tar in his lungs. But hey, he might be collecting it. xD

Haha, I like the way you think.

I am 29 and have been smoking since I was 13 or 14 and I seem to have a real issue with it... I have less of a problem with the nicotine withdrawls and more of a problem with what to do with my hands and mouth... i have always been a person who constantly had to be doing something... even better... several things... I have never really been big on smoking inside a house or car, so its not like I can smell it really... I just keep trying to quit and every go 'round I am able to cut back a little more.

caseyur 02-11-2013 12:31 AM

@Lela
Well you see with your comment there, ive never experienced any withdrawls from nicotine. I just get a buzz from it, I know that i dont need it to live. Thats all i really need to do, but maybe you should try to get hypnotized or get an E-cig. The E-cigs work wonders by the way!

How is that any better? xD
I used to be a total stoner but I've always known it's just as bad in it's own way. They both affect your liver and lungs, and pot affects your brain just as much, if not more than cigarettes.

Besides, I'm not a fan of facism.
Just because a few don't like something or personally believe it's "wrong", doesn't mean it should be ruined for everyone else. lol
It's no one else's business sticking their nose into the way other people treat their bodies, it's not like we don't know it's bad for us. [lol]
If you're over 18, you are obviously old enough to have the sense to decide what choices you're okay with making in life. Otherwise it probably wouldn't be a good idea for people to be voting or joining the military either. [rofl]
Not that people wouldn't still find a way to get cigarettes if they were made illegal anyway. [lol]
I mean hell, weed is illegal in most states, but that doesn't seem to stop anyone. xD
There are PLEANTY of things I'm not exactly fond of or agree with, but I still don't believe it's right to mess it up for other people. :P

lol It's just the whole ritual of smoking for me too. xD
I have to feel the burn in muh lungs! [rofl]

...on a side note, this thread makes me want to smoke...so do anti smoking ads. lol

HederaHelix 02-18-2013 12:13 PM

Used to smoke two pack per day but got frustrated on the rising price and quit suddenly. Oddly, I didn't really miss it except from the hand gestures I did when I was bored, like looking for my pack or my lighter and stuff like that.

TheNewCSLewis 02-19-2013 04:42 AM

I think it is different for people depending on how their body takes it in and how much they smoke a day. The guy I have been seeing smokes a pack in about a couple of days, but he stopped for a couple of weeks to prove to me that he could (and cause he job told him to stop) but he got back into it. I don't judge him for it, my mother smokes and my dad and I would probably too if we didn't have lung problems already. It isn't the stopping that's the hard part, it is trying not to come back to it later on down the road. No matter how much or how long you've smoked, you will always be pulled toward nicotine again. Just make sure to watch your health in other things, like diet and alcohol consumption, and you will be fine.

Kole_Locke 02-21-2013 06:09 AM

THank goodness I never got started but smoking I hear is a very difficult thing to do since nicotine is so addictive and the cigarette companies knew it all along lol.
A lot of people end up relapsing into a bad habit of smoking lol

Scathe 02-21-2013 09:43 AM

I smoke, I wish I was one of those people who could just pick it up and put it down, but the last time I tried to quit I felt like serious shit, I went for a few days, now I'm working on cutting back or trying gum instead, I wish the government would make it illegal it kills people and harms your lungs and teeth, I'm sure that some people can just smoke meth or the like whenever they want and stop like it's nothing but that doesn't mean it's harmless, though I think most people realize that.

Stellar Delusion 02-21-2013 07:34 PM

Some people, it's just a habit.
Some people, it's a physiological addiction.

Myself, I've had several of both in my family. My mother had no problem giving it up when research determined that they ARE, in fact, bad for you. My aunt (HER sister, actually) still wants them after having spent more time off them than on them.

I don't smoke because one, it's terrible for me, and two...I'm not taking any chances on being like my aunt.

Screaming Mime 02-22-2013 02:06 AM

@caseyur:
Yes. Let's make marijuana legal XDDD that would make some people really, really happy.
