Random thought of random.

Does it creep anyone else out that people can see your gold amount? I've been gone from the site for a while and I forgot you can see that. It's a random thing I know..but I tend to be random. <<

Antagonist 02-21-2013 07:59 AM

No, I don't really mind having my gold amount displayed. We don't have hackers and scammers and phishers as much as some other sites do (and they would be promptly taken care of too even if they did show up), and they're hardly an accurate indicator of how much someone actually owns, so to me it doesn't matter much.

For those who don't like their gold to be on display, some hide them in trades. By opening a trade between themselves and their mule, they can have all the gold in the trade so their gold display amount would be lower than how much they actually possess.

MissJiff 02-21-2013 08:02 AM

That's actually an interesting idea. I was just curious to see peoples opinions. I just found it strange since I was on Gaia before. Unfortunately I had a problem with a hacker there.

Antagonist 02-21-2013 08:07 AM

Haha, yeah. I get where you come from. [lol] Gaia's all about displaying your wealth through your attire and getting mocked if you wear 'n00b' clothes...I had a few run-ins with scammers and loads of phishers. And then got banned by the site by being accused of botting. *rolls eyes* One of the reasons why I love Menewsha so much. It doesn't matter what you wear because people don't (or very rarely) judge you by your appearance and items, and even if you have a bajillion gold under your name you don't get trails of beggars coming after you either.

MissJiff 02-21-2013 08:11 AM

I have noticed a lot less of that here. Sadly I was attacked by a keylogger. Since I know enough not to get scammed out of things like that. I sent Gaia a thing on what happened but I never heard anything back at it. I took that as a 'Well we don't really care' and haven't been on the site much, since.

Antagonist 02-21-2013 09:51 AM

Yeah, they don't really care about their users. Not even the people who donate loads of money to them every year. I tried for a year to get my account back, giving them all the information I could gather on what might have triggered them to mistake me to be a botter, but noooope, they totally gave me automated responses that basically told me to bugger off, or gave me responses that tell me that they're taking care of it, but have actually just ignored me. (I know this because I've been waiting for like three years and the last time I checked back on Gaia, the account was still banned)

The mod I talked to, who was later promoted to admin about a week after I contacted her, blew me off too. She was downright rude and basically told me to stop wasting her time, because the system could do no wrong and I obviously must have been botting to have gotten banned. So yeah, didn't have the best of experiences with their staffs either.

Sigh. If only all avatar sites are as nice as Menewsha.

ReineDeLaSeine14 02-21-2013 06:24 PM

In some ways it does make me feel weird and in other ways I don't care. I mean I don't have much gold a lot of the time because I don't roleplay, I'm not around often and I totally suck at saving. It is a tad embarrassing in that respect. However, it is a website and it's not like it's a competition (is it?) and there are bigger things in life to stress over than how much gold I have here.

MissJiff 02-21-2013 08:25 PM

I'm sure everyone has different opinions about the whole 'seeing everyone's gold amount.

Nephila 02-24-2013 08:24 AM

It used to bother me a lot when I first came here. Now I've come to realize it's not the fact that it's there that bothers me but the people that notice and friend because of it. Which is very rare here, but there are a few users about that do mention it from time to time. I just sort of laugh it off and tell them how long I've been saving for and that if they're stubborn enough they can do it too.

Risque 02-24-2013 09:20 AM

visible gold amounts make for fun times when I can randomly donate to people a little bit of gold to bump them up to 696 gold, or 6969 gold. [cool]

Kyuru 02-24-2013 11:45 AM

At first it bothered me because I usually have very little gold because I have spent it and I was at first afraid of the people coming around to call me a noob or laugh at my gold amount. I just really like saving up lots so I can buy what I want / need. I don't have a lot of time for Menewsha but I try to make time to get gold.

Mystic 02-24-2013 09:53 PM

I hide my gold in a trade so people can't see how much I actually have. I also keep some on my mule.

HoneyButterbaby 02-25-2013 07:10 AM

I did not know you could do that, I am learning something new all the time

The Wandering Poet 02-25-2013 06:20 PM

Only when they start drooling...

MissJiff 02-25-2013 06:26 PM

I thank people for their opinions. I was always curious to see what people would have to say.

Izumi 02-26-2013 01:45 AM

Doesn't bother me much. At first I'd sit and drool at other people's gold amounts, but there's a lot they could have in items on their account that you can't see.

In fact that is where my wealth lies...I don't tend to wear stuff for the sake of it being rare.

I still drool a little when I see a really old CI/EI I don't have, though.

Ling 02-27-2013 01:16 AM

The gold amount being visible has never bothered me, no matter how much or how little gold I have.

jellysundae 03-04-2013 04:03 AM

I used to find it weird, but I suppose that was because my only experience of avatar sites at that point was Gaia. For me not from the begging etc. apsect, but just because you don't have that there. But like a lot of the people on here, I don't even think about it now.

I'm always shocked when a new user (that I immediately assume is from Gaia) starts making those,"OMG ur so rich!" type comments. Because people on here just don't do that. [ninja]

Iced-anime 03-11-2013 10:18 AM

It's good for selling/buying in the marketplace. People have mules though, so it's not the best indicator of your budget. I like donating when I have excessive gold, but that's rarely the case. Back on topic, I'm not personally bothered by it.
