Hey there!

Hi! I'm not sure what to call myself because I haven't thought of a nickname. Maybe I can create one here? Out of my username? Eh.

I'm a Canadian female in university. I'm interested in gardening, weight lifting, reading, zombies, urban hobby farming (I can't wait to have my own chickens!), tarot, knitting (I teach it when I can), general DIY, stationary, fountain pens, and candles (I can spend ages smelling them [heart]).

And other stuff. Of course.

I'm currently reading Life of Pi. It's a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

Tomorrow is my birthday! I turn 20. [boogie] I have a midterm then though, so that's a bit of a pain. But hey, short class!

And I think I've run out of things to say.

Seridano 03-01-2013 01:39 AM

That's quite the eclectic mix of likes...I approve!

I've got Life of Pi on my reading list. Didn't have much interest in it until I saw the movie and now I'm desperate to read the book! Of course, I have to finish The Wise Man's Fear first, because I'm having a good deal of trouble separating myself from it for more than a few minutes at a time. ^.^;
/is such a bookworm

If you have any questions / need anything, feel free to shoot me a pm, and do check out New Beginnings if you have the time. It's full of friendly folks looking to welcome new folks and help them learn the ropes. Perhaps, between the lot of us, we'll be able to come up with a suitable nickname for you! o.o

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 01:44 AM

Thank you! [:)]

I haven't seen the movie yet. I really need to finish the book and do that (it's a book club book, so I think we're going to be watching the movie together). I'm only half way through and it's actually given me some religious/spiritual guidance in a very indirect way. I really really didn't expect that. I was just thinking "big kitties and boats, oh my" when I picked it up.

I can relate. I really miss being able to spend all day reading. It's one of the best things ever. With some tea and a big comfy couch. Mmm. Good times.

Thank you! For the nickname help, I will head right over.

jellysundae 03-01-2013 01:46 AM

Wow yeah, awesome bunch of interests. Is urban hobby farming keeping chickens on skyscraper rooftops and so on?

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 02:01 AM

I suppose that would be considered urban hobby farming.
I'm just thinking hobby farming in a city, as opposed to in the country or on a larger piece of land. I know Vancouver allows for chickens in some areas. I want two or three. I'm thinking rode island chickens, but I don't know enough yet to say for sure about what I want.

jellysundae 03-01-2013 02:08 AM

I don't have any outside space at all :( But I love the idea of chickens, fresh eggs for breakfast every morning [drool]

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 02:10 AM

I think I've heard of people making runs for chickens on roofs before. Not sure how well that would work.

Mmm. And the baked goods or french toast. [drool] The way the fresh eggs would make them taste is probably phenomenal.

jellysundae 03-01-2013 02:19 AM

Now you've got my wanting cake [lol] or French toast. Though I have seen recipes in food blogs where they've made French toast from cake -strokes chin-

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 02:22 AM

French toast... from cake?!
How does that work?
I've heard of a microwave mug recipe for french toast but never one involving cake.
I sort of maybe want to eat it now.

Seridano 03-01-2013 02:25 AM

Man, I wish I knew of a bookclub or two in my area, that'd be right up my alley.

Oooh, agreed! Some tea and a comfy couch/chair and it's game on. I've been addicted to peppermint tea with honey lately. It's better than a candy cane.

jellysundae 03-01-2013 02:27 AM

Oh now that's interesting, because I make microwave mug cake, but i've never heard of it for French toast!

With the cake they just use slices of that instead of bread. I think I might eat that for breakfast, if it was plain cake, would be better for dessert though. Iku shared the mug cake recipe, where are they [ninja] Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa:

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 03-01-2013 02:34 AM

Why you dragging me out into the wild? [gonk]

[lol]

I need more mug cake in my life. Really.

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 02:41 AM

@Seridano :: Mine is through my school. You should make one! Even if you start it with only a friend or two. Or advertise at the library, book stores, or... craigslist? Meet in a coffee shop. Fun times ensue!

That sounds really yummy. [drool] I have Love Tea #9 from Davids Tea. It's rather nice. Not exactly what I'm looking for in a tea, but my significant other really likes it. It sort of got him addicted to tea. A bit.

@jellysundae :: French toast in a cup!
I haven't tried it so I don't take responsiblity for any mishaps that may happen as a result of trying the above recipe. [ninja]

I've made mug brownies, but not cake yet. I failed on a cookie last time. [gonk]

@Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa :: Is it really really good?

jellysundae 03-01-2013 02:55 AM

The version Iku found really isn't bad, and there's no egg in it, it's just store cupboard ingredients. So if you just have to have cake or you're simply gonna die, it's a good recipe to know ;D

Seri, I like peppermint tea, not got any honey though :(

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 03-01-2013 02:58 AM

Omg, french toast in cup! [drool] Let's see if I can do this tomorrow for breakfast or sumthin...

Oh the mug cake! The brownie one or something. It was bleh! [t2h] Dry and... not tasty. Need a new one.

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 02:59 AM

The only cup recipe I've come across that involves egg was the cookie one I tried but messed up.

For the brownie in a cup, just add about a 1/4 cup more water. Knowing what consistency you want is more important than following the recipe perfectly.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 03-01-2013 03:04 AM

It just wasn't very tasty either. I think I'd be better off with a new recipe. P: Oddly I feel like there's not a lot out there that don't involve "a lot" of ingredients.

jellysundae 03-01-2013 03:04 AM

I use the recipe you shared though, Iku D:

I don't have the link now >< but I'll share what I do now

This recipe said 1tbs of ground flax seeds, but I no has so I just added 1 more of flour

3 tbs flour
2 tbs peanut butter
1 tbs sugar (recipe said 2, but that's for the American sweet tooth [ninja])
3 tbs water
2tbs oil
bit of baking powder xD I put about 1/4 tsp

mix together, zap for minute and a half or so.

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 03:08 AM

I find it only tastes good with either whipped cream or ice cream.
But yeah. I don't expect flavor explosions from these recipes.
I can dream though.

Oooh. I may try that recipe. It looks yummy.
Maybe tomorrow as it is my birthday... though... on top of all that bannock I'm making. I don't know.
Yeah, I'll probably make it. Hah. I can't hold back from yummy stuffs.

Seridano 03-01-2013 03:10 AM

@Cabit - I live close enough to Amherst that that might actually work. Might even be able to find one. Not sure how much I actually WANT to mingle with the UMASS crowd, but some of em are fun without being too crazy.

Perhaps I'll start a Mene book club (heck, there might even BE one). o.O

@Jelly - A hint of honey makes it even better. Mind you, this is coming from someone who's generally a fan of citrus and honey teas so...yeah. ^.^; Luckily for me, the bf's brother makes honey, so I get it fresh. I seriously have no idea what I'd do without it now. Its so much better than sugar in terms of sweeteners.

Oh, I might have to try that recipe.
Iku, you've been holding out on me! -pouts-

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 03:15 AM

Cabit? Hmm. I like. (according to a quick google search, half cat and half rabbit o-O )

Post about your successes? :D

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 03-01-2013 03:44 AM

@Jelly: There was another one, chocolate one that I tried that I didn't like though.
That peanut butter one is good. Dang, now I want some. XD Must resist.

Aha, here it is!
Hot Pot Cooking: Vegan peanut butter mug cake

With this note:
Quote:

I used almond meal instead of flax because I only have whole flax seeds and didn't feel like grinding it.

jellysundae 03-01-2013 04:52 AM

Seri, bf's brother is a bee keeper?! I'm so jealous, I really want to do that :( But yeah, no outside space, so... [headdesk]

Hope you have a fantabulous birthday tomorrow...I was trying to think of something shorter to call you, but nothing presented itself ><

Caught Inbetween 03-01-2013 05:05 AM

Haha. Thank you. I'll try.

I'm pondering. Maybe I'll come up with something and put it in my signature.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 03-01-2013 02:51 PM

Whoops, sorry Seri! [lol]

Okay! I did the French Toast in a cup this morning aaaaand! It was good! [lol]

I used a little less than a tablespoon of salted butter, melted it and swirled it around in the cup. Some of it fell out too. [XD]
Eyeballed the cinnamon to my liking. My bread didn't poke out of the cup like in the picture either. Uh.. what else... Once I poured the egg mixture in there, I kind of tilted it and swirled it slowly around to get soaked more into the top pieces of bread. Microwaved for a minute with a paper towel on top (didn't come out of the cup so probably don't need that), then another 10 seconds, and another 5 seconds for good measure. [lol]
I poured more syrup into the cup as I ate it. Got really eggy towards the bottom (understandably), so if you want more bread down there, could push it down some, I didn't, so that's why it was so eggy. But I didn't really mind either. Microwaved it another 10 seconds once I got to the kind of "bottom layer" just because the syrup had melted and gone down there making it look watery/uncooked. XD
And that's it! Tasty~
