"I'll make the grocery run," Faye volunteered. "Give me the list once you make it, and I'll ask around as I shop."
"Sounds good. It's going to be a bit of a doozy, since I'm getting all the necessities now like flour and stuff," Rei warned her, paying for the hotel room and taking the key.
"That's fine," Faye said, grinning. "I have three guys to help me carry things."
"You can take Logan too if you want, he makes a good pack mule." Rei grinned innocently. Logan just rolled his eyes but didn't actually protest.
Faye grinned.
"Sure," she said. "We'll see if I need his help too. The extra hands are appreciated." |
Rei nodded and headed up to their room. She got her kitchen set up the way she wanted, making note that she needed more counter space, and then started making her list.
Faye set her things down and then gathered Tony, Bruce, and Cas to go with her shopping. She'd drag Logan along once they were ready to leave.
Rei handed off the list to Logan. "Here you go. Faye, be sure to keep a receipt so I can reimburse you for stuff."
"No problem," Faye said, taking the list for a moment. She looked it over briefly. "You weren't kidding, this is a lot." She handed it back to Logan.
"I did warn you. But it'll be enough for a while for cooking and baking and everything." Rei shrugged.
"Well, we'll get what you need," Faye said. "And I'll ask around to see what people know about the thefts. Someone's got to know something."
Rei nodded. "Right. Well, let me know what you find out. I'm getting back to work on the kitchen for now."
Faye nodded and headed out.
The first stop was the grocery store. She knew there was an outdoor market, and she would get the produce and such there, but the grocery store would be where she got the dry and nonperishables. She made sure they were quick at the grocery store. Once they got to the market, she slowed down and scoped out people to talk to while they shopped. "I've heard some unsettling rumors," she said casually to one of the vendors at the market. "I've been on the road a while, so I'm only just now hearing about things, but I've heard whispers about thefts recently?" |
"Yep." The vendor popped her gun with a grimace. "That's what I've been hearing too. It started out with just a few, enough that people were blowing it off, but now..." She shrugged. "Sounds like it's happening a lot."
"Scary thought," Faye said. "What's the MO, any ideas? Just in case, I don't want to be unprepared, you know? Especially out on the road."
"No one's really sure." The vendor popped her gum again. "The witnesses always say it's kind of like a transfer, but it's forced, and it seems to be aimed at unusual and rare bishis."
"That's even more frightening," Faye murmured. She shook herself a bit. "Thanks for the info. I'll make sure to keep my guard up."
"Be sure to do that. Have your bishis on guard, too." The vendor nodded to her.
"I definitely will," Faye said, nodding in return.
Logan, of course, had heard everything and was decently pissed about it all. But he stayed quiet as he walked with Faye.
Once they had everything from Rei's list, Faye quickly headed back to the hotel room. She needed to tell Rei what she'd found out.
Rei had managed to get Erik to help her make a table, and she looked over at Faye with a brief grin.
"How'd it go?" |
"Shopping was good, chatting was good," Faye said. "Information gathered, not so good." She started putting down groceries. "They are thefts, but it's not just stealing any old bishi. Apparently they're targeting rares and hard to finds."
"It makes sense, in a sick way," Rei agreed after a moment, starting to put away groceries. "That's what would have a market."
"Yeah," Faye said. "Rumor has it that it's some sort of forced transfer."
