Lea laughed quietly. "Well, go get stuff packed up and make sure we've got enough supplies to take with us. I'll get to work on the RV and a place for us to go."
Amy nodded and did as she was told, going to pack up all but the very essentials. Those could be packed at the last minute.
Lea got them an RV at a place that was close enough to borrow one of Tony's cars to get to, and got a few cat carriers. She didn't like them, but it would make transporting the cats to and from the RV much easier.
Once they were ready to go, Amy gathered up the cats and got them into carriers. She would let them out again once they were in the RV.
Lea borrowed one of Tony's cars with Jarvis's permission, heading over to where the RV was. She helped load everything into the RV, completed the paperwork (under a fake name, of course) and looked over at Amy once they were in.
"Ready to go?" |
Amy nodded.
"Let's go," she said. "Where did you find for us to go?" |
"There's a nice state park a state or two down," Lea said. "Should be warm enough and quiet enough."
"Sounds great," Amy said. She sighed and sat back in her seat. "It'll be nice to finally have some space."
"No kidding." Lea grinned. "And we'll see how long we want to spend away." She got on the correct interstate and started driving.
Amy nodded and tried to settle in for a nap. She hadn't slept much the day before, instead opting to stay up until her sister had gotten some sleep.
Lea drove quietly until they were well out of the way of anything else, out in one of the state parks. Then she pulled over into an RV area and let the cats out.
Amy woke up when the RV stopped, and she got up to help Lea with the cats.
"Now hopefully it'll take them a long time to find us," she said to her sister. |
"Oh I hope so." Lea stretched and grinned when the cats started to explore. "Well, we may as well relax, get some food and all that." She was already relaxing away from the buzz of electronics.
Amy nodded, stretching a bit and sighing. She felt better now that she was away from the pressure of so many other minds, and her thoughts felt clear for the first time since before she could remember.
Lea flopped over on one of the beds, stretching out and letting her three kittens cuddle her. "God this feels nice," she said with a smile.
"This must be how other people feel all the time," Amy agreed. "I finally feel like there's enough space to breathe."
"I wish we could feel like this all the time," Lea said quietly, finally relaxing.
She would miss Tony, though. |
"Yeah," Amy said. Although, if she were honest with herself, she would miss Loki. She'd gotten used to him being around and he was actually kind of charming, in his own way.
Lea spent the rest of the day relaxing, playing with her kittens, and sitting outside not worrying about anything. It was novel, and she really rather enjoyed it.
Amy took advantage of not having to think for a while and just stretched out in the sun for a while. It felt wonderful.
The girls had their solitude and quiet for two weeks. Especially since Lea had all her electronics off all the time.
But then they started to get a bit antsy, and Loki got tired of trying to wait and cooked up a tracking spell. |
After about two weeks, Amy found herself wanting to head back. The quiet and solitude had been wonderful, but now she kind of wanted people around again.
Tony was about ready to tear his hair out. There had been a note waiting for him in his systems, from Lea, saying that they needed to get away, but he hated not knowing where she was. |
Loki moved into the lab for the second time, looking at Tony.
"I have their location," he said. |
"What took you so long?" Tony asked, getting up from the gadget he'd been tinkering with. He wasn't even surprised Loki had been looking; a blind person could see that the trickster was into Amy.
"It was more difficult than normal to find them." Loki looked at him for a moment. "Are we going or not?"
