"Keep me posted," Amy said. "I mean it. I want to know as soon as you hear something." She would stress and worry, anyways, but it would set her slightly more at ease if she knew what was going on.
"I will. I'll probably hear something tomorrow, but I'll let you know when I know anything." Leandra tried not to worry about it. She knew Stark could make things hard for her for a while, and she didn't really want that.
Amy fidgeted a little, already starting to worry about the situation. She didn't handle stress all that well.
"You have any tea at home?" Leandra asked as they walked. Because she knew Amy would need some if she was going to get any sleep tonight.
"Not at home," Amy replied, shaking her head a bit. "Haven't needed any at home."
"Let's pick some up on the way back home, then." Leandra steered them over to the café to pick up a few cups of tea.
"I just left here, though," Amy said as she let herself be steered into the cafe. She didn't argue that the tea would be helpful, though.
"So we'll get it to take home." Leandra shrugged. "Go make the tea, I'll put money down for it."
"I'm not getting back behind that counter today," Amy said. "They might try to make me stay, and I can't handle more people today." She wasn't exaggerating by much. If she had to deal with too many more people, she was very likely to give in and start pulling them under her control.
"So get your coworker to do and it say you have a migraine." Leandra pulled out money to pay for the tea.
"Lea," Amy said, "I don't want to go back in. There are too many people." She looked pleadingly at her sister even as her fingers twitched a bit.
Lea sighed. "Alright, stay out here and I'll be back in a few minutes with tea. You're drinking a cup as soon as I get it, though."
Amy nodded and stayed outside the doors, leaning against the building a little as she waited.
Leandra came back a few minutes later with three cups of tea, handing one off to Amy as soon as she was outside again.
"There, now you should be set for tonight and we can settle into the apartment and watch mindless TV." |
"Thanks," Amy murmured, taking a sip of the tea. She didn't care that it was hot; her Extremis would heal any burns she got before she even felt them. But she did care that the tea helped her calm down again.
Leandra steered her along back to their apartment so they could get settled in for the night and relax.
Amy let herself be steered along, and she was calm and more relaxed once they got to the apartment. She changed into comfortable clothes quietly and curled up on the bed next to her sister.
"There was a woman today," she said quietly. "About noon or so. Just the rudest woman, didn't care about anyone around her. Snapped at the people in front of her to hurry, the people behind her to wait. I could have made her stop. It was just so tempting to reach out and take control and make her stop. But I didn't." |
"Good. I know it's hard. But it's good you keep resisting." Leandra sighed, settling down with a cup of water. "And soon I should have everything I need."
Amy curled up a bit tighter, not moving from her sister's bed.
"I know you're working on it," she said quietly. "I just don't know how much longer I'll be able to resist it." |
"Just a little longer," Leandra soothed. "I just need a few more days so I can figure out the coding and then we can try."
Amy made a vague sound of agreement and settled in. She didn't move to her own room, though; she didn't particularly want to be alone at the moment.
Leandra didn't mind, instead puzzling out code in a notebook while she sat there, only sort of paying attention to the TV.
Amy drifted off to sleep, still curled up there on the bed. The tea had finally worked to relax her enough so she could sleep peacefully, and the TV was just enough white noise that she drifted right off.
Lea stayed up for a while longer before she turned off the lights and went to sleep as well.
She was also the first one up in the morning, since she had to be at work. She got dressed as quickly as she could after showering, stretching briefly. |
Amy was off that day, so she slept in a bit. She woke when her sister did, of course, but settled back in once she was sure Lea was up and going to work.
