"Yes, Captain Rogers, I'm aware. However, as the super soldier serum no longer exists, Extremis is as close as the military can get." Killian smiled, clearly pleased with that.
"It's going to kill people," Amy said. "I remember the statistics, for every one that worked, two more didn't."
"And that is where you two come in. You were both successful. I just need your coding and I'll present it to the military." Killian shrugged. "Besides, they're willing to make a few sacrifices to get results."
"What if we refuse?" Amy said, watching him carefully.
"You don't have much of a choice. We already have samples of your blood," Killian said with that winning smile. "Besides, if you refuse to cooperate, not even Extremis will heal a bullet to your brain."
"No, it won't," Amy agreed. "But I can go hot enough to take the building with me."
"Not if I shoot you first," Killian said. "Besides, most of the people here are expendable. So is the building. The only thing you'd do would be to get you and your sister killed."
"If you have our blood, that's all you need," Amy said, trying a different angle. "There will always be more people good with computers."
"But none who have been working with Stark." Killian shook his head. "No, you two can't go yet." He stood again. "I'll let you know when we need you again."
"Working with Stark?" Amy asked, but it was too late. She looked at Lea. "Did Tony mention any of this?"
"What, a government contract? No." Lea shook her head. "I think he's more interested in seeing what I know about Tony's research into Extremis." Which made her very worried, because she had been involved in the process, and between him and Bruce, they'd researched a lot.
Amy was quiet, and then wrapped her arms around her knees and rested her head on them.
"I don't know what to do," she murmured. |
"I don't know what we can do," Lea said, getting up and pacing. She was scared and mad and ready to just blow the whole damn place up. "I hate this."
Amy was quiet.
"We can't do this again," she said after a moment. "Be their good little tools. We can't." |
"We won't be," Lea said quietly. "He can threaten us all he wants. We won't just let him do this."
"You heard him, he'll shoot us both if we don't," Amy pointed out.
"We'll just have to find a way to be disobedient while looking like we're being obedient," Lea said with a shrug. "We'll figure something out."
Amy was quiet, thinking.
"I'll see if I can worm my way into a few heads," she said. "Depending on who and how many they give me." |
Lea nodded. "We'll see what comes up," she agreed, going back to sit on the bed with a bit of a sigh.
Amy leaned against her sister. She just hoped the others would realize something was wrong before the situation got any worse.
Loki, meanwhile, knew something was wrong, and he was working as hard as he could to track down Amy. He didn't even care at this point if he got in trouble for it, he would get her back.
Tony had realized, as well, and was hacking every system he could get his grubby little hands on to find Lea.
It took Loki nearly two days to track Amy down using magic, which was two days too long, as far as he was concerned. So he took the location to Stark, to find out how much he'd have to blow up if nothing else.
"Stark, I require your opinion." |
Tony glanced over when Loki came in.
"Kind of busy," he said, tapping rapidly on a keyboard. |
"I found Amy."
Loki expected that would get a reaction, if nothing else. While there was no guarantee they were together, it was likely. |
