I know the names of very few but I could easily plug them in XD
|
I love PS/2 ports! Even the newest desktop motherboards still supply one. They allow me to use the older mechanic keyboards I have/had with my desktops.
Plus who can forget those old trackball mice? |
Eck trackball mice... [lol] Those always derped out on me very fast... (actually mice in general do that to me)
|
I don't miss trackball mice at all...I always seemed to somehow get hair and gunk wadded up in there. Ewww.
How about those roller ball mice on top? I didn't really care for those much either. |
Oh the scroll on the top of the mouse? I love that. Granted it's heavily required with the programs I'm trained on XD
|
The one where the ball for the mouse is on top. I have no idea what the technical term is for that...
I like the newer mice that have come out....or better yet I'm getting very use to using my ipad's touch screen over the mouse. Granted there are things you cannot do on there you can on a traditional computer. |
Oops, I mixed it up. Trackballs are the mice that use a ball as the pointer device, mechanical mice are the mice that use a mechanical ball underneath the mouse instead of a laser/LED.
I still haven't been won over by touch screens. I have a tablet but I seldom use it. |
The secret is you need a good keyboard. :) I have a Zaggfolio and while it was expensive I love it. :)
|
I have a Asus Transformer with the trackpad/keyboard dock. The dock is so well designed and convenient there's hardly any use of the touch screen anymore. It's like I've been spoiled out of using it! If I'm simply using it as a laptop why not use my actual laptop and not be weighed down by the limited Android operating system?
I'm doomed! The entire matter has been made far more severe since a friend of mine introduced me to mechanical keyboards. I can't go back! |
I know very little about hardware unfortunately. I just like my keys to be easy to remove for cleaning...
|
I don't know. Android OS seems OK...I have it on my phone. I much prefer iOS as they really make their stuff very foolproof and minimalistic. I can't believe I would say something like that since I use to be such an anti-apple kind of person.
Oh and I hate Windows 8. I mean severely hate it. I'll stick with Windows 7, thanks. |
Ehh... windows 8 honestly seems more like a phone than a computer... but being able to disable that weird thing makes ending up with it a lot more bearable when I buy a computer later this year...
|
Yeah, I'm thinking of maybe getting a new laptop this year but windows 8 makes me a little hesitant...
|
What is so bad about Windows 8?
|
I know I'm a volunteer here, but...
I need help! System: Windows 7, Firefox The Problem: I got hit with a search engine redirect virus. I think. When I click on google search results, sometime (especially when clicking a wiki link) I get redirected to some "livesearchnow" and other various fake search sites. It's getting really annoying. I've tried Malwarebytes (the "new" one I think? Has the new blue, round M logo) and it doesn't find anything wrong. |
I'm not too experienced with antivirus, but I would reccomend trying AVG. That has caught more viruses for me than anything else has.
The scan takes a long time though but it's free. Since you're getting hit with redirects I'll give you the direct link: AVG Download I got this directly from their site. If that doesn't work I'll see about pinging another techie if nobody else posts. It appears malwarebytes is, in a sense, extremely outdated. Quote:
|
I actually already use AVG, should've added that in my description. It caught nothing.
|
Huh... okay lets see here... quick google search got me this video:
The above is a manual and an automatic method to removing specifically the google redirect virus. |
Thanks so much for the video, I haven't seen that one yet in my own research.
I followed method 1 and from testing so far, the virus is probably gone. I only had one redirect out of the 20 links I tried, and it might have just been a weird site. This is MUCH more bearable than what I had before. Perhaps I had more than one virus and one is still lurking? Either way, I'm better off right now. I'm gonna keep testing. Thanks! ---------- Post added 05-12-2013 at 05:05 PM ---------- I'd also like to note that method 1 sped up my browser in general as well. might be a good idea to clear out the folders it tells you to clear with or without a virus. |
Alright. I remember I ended up reformatting when it happened to me [lol]
|
yea, i was so close to doing that. this was my last effort, and hopefully, it worked.
|
Just let us know if you ever have problems again. Hopefully a bigger techie will post sometime with some added advice, so be sure to let us know how it goes :)
|
I have a quick question for you...
Where is the "disk driver" located? Mine has been very jumpy for the last few weeks... Whenever I'm listening to music via my earbuds or speakers, the musis will sometimes cut short, or freeze for a second, the screen will go black, and then it'll show again, with the music continuing like nothing happened. I get this little notice from my bottom right icons saying that the disk driver had crashed, but "now has recovered"... Any ideas of what to do? My laptop is a little over three years old, but it still works fine. [:?:] |
I'm not really too sure. This sounds more hardware related I believe. What model of computer do you have and what operating system (just to get the basics)?
|
Wyntre: Yeah, that sounds like a hardware problem. Maybe your hard drive is failing? You never know when it comes to laptops just how long the parts can last. D:
As for the virus problem, Amaitae: I try to keep three programs on my computer: Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Anti-Spyware. I've always heard that it was best to have all three cause they all cover different ground. Since you say that Malware-Bytes isn't working, I would suggest installing Spybot Search and Destroy. :D I want to volunteer! Username: Risque & Wagon (I put Wagon on here cause I consult him for everything anyways.) System(s): PC, PS3, 360, Wii |
