DVDs or Internet
When I was a little girl, to watch a movie meant a video. Or TV. When I was in high school, it was definitely DVDs. In college, I watched yet more movies on DVDs but used netflix a lot too. Yet when I graduated, there was blockbuster, netflix, and bluerays in high demand. My job was conveniently overseas in South Korea. Suddenly blockbuster, netflix, TV, and even the public library are gone. No longer available to me. My world crumbled.
I challenge you to tell me, what is the best way to watch movies overall. Forget that I am overseas, since closing my netflix account I have learned ways around the "I'm sorry, this is only available in the USA..." message. How do you live your life? Do you even watch movies? |
I watch movies either at the theater or at home on my computer. There are streaming videos of the old movies and I use my friend's Netflix account if I want to watch a newer movie. I have my Disney video collection which comes in handy whenever I feel the mood to re-watch the classics.
|
Which have you found easier? I generally go to the theater these days. There are usually movies in English, especially with Iron Man 3 out right now. The disney movie collection you have... is the quality good or had it become corrupted over time?
|
I want to go watch Iron Man 3 this weekend. I am planning to go to the theater to watch that. In terms of the videos, the quality is still good. The videos haven't been damaged over time. Thank goodness.
|
That is pretty good. I remember watching Old Yeller and Pocohantus as a child... and then before middle school they were no longer in working order. The DVDs from middle school now skip or pause beyond watching too.
|
oh really? i actually own more videos than DVDs. haha
|
Wow, that is amazing. You are the first I have met besides my aunt with such a collection.
|
yeah i guess it is sort of rare nowadays. ^^
|
It truly is. So you also use your friend's netflix right? How does that work? You go to their place or sign in on your computer with their login?

I have a large collection of old VHS movies, which I love. <3 The remastered editions just aren't the same.
Other than that - I usually watch movies online via netflix or streaming. I don't buy DVDs, its a waste of money when I can either watch it online, or download it onto a blank CD - a pack of which is probably cheaper than buying a DVD. I do love going to the theater though. :) I'm also going to the midnight showing of Iron Man when it comes out in Canada! |
Remastered really isn't. I don't like the knew Pocahontas because they changed some of the scenes...
I saw Iron Man 3... you will enjoy it I think. |
Well, most of the movies I like watching anymore is on the internet, so I usually go to 1channel or free-tv-video. I don't have cable, so I have to go to the internet if I want to get caught up on Glee, Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, or The Walking Dead (even though it's over now). But if I have the show (episodes I want to watch) or a movie I want to watch on DVD, I'll resort to that, otherwise, I like to curl up in bed with my lights turned off and watch whatever on the internet on my stomach and headphones.

project free tv is a good site, and one I rely on to watch NCIS and Leverage
how does 1channel work? |
it's a website. i don't know if you'll get access to it since you're not in the US but you should check it out:
1Channel.ch | LetMeWatchThis - Watch Movies Online Free - Just Added |
I will try soon... but if anything I am learning that some things just don't work here *sad sigh* Thanks for the advice spunky.
|
no problem. i'm glad to help you out.

I like downloading my movies from the internet. So much less hassle that way. CDs though, I actually like collecting. Not to say I won't download music too, but I find a CD I like, I'll usually buy the physical copy, if only just to have it. :P The only DVD I own is Charlotte's Web, my favorite movie when I was a kid.

Also... I hate that as well! Also, the fact that they cut Tigerlily from Peter Pan... that whole scene with the tribe! Excuse my ignorance/white-ness/whatever you wanna call it... But I loved that scene! |
I would always say that the best way to watch a movie is in the theatre. BUT, that is not the most convenient. Mosrt of the time I either do it that way, or I go down to the nearest video hire place. (Which is super cool, by the way. They call themselves the "discerning film lover's nirvana", and only have movies that they deem worthy. Their collection also includes a lot of international and old mobvies, unlike some of the more mainstream places which only seem to stock popular and recent movies.) I don't often watch online, seeing as it's hard to find a reliable source and my internet connection is pretty slow.
|
That does sound like a pretty cool place. Wish there was one of those around here. Is it like a library where you rent it or do you watch it there?
|
Gosh, I use the internet mostly now. I watch movies and shows on this laptop more than I do from any DVDs I own. I just use a cord to connect from the laptop to the TV so I can watch it on the bigger screen. I like collecting DVDs though. Especially anime, though my collection for it is still pretty small. But so far I do have the entire Dragon Ball Z series, Wolf's Rain, Death Note, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and... that's it. ;___; I am lacking. But I would love to own much more even though I mostly just watch it on the internet.
|
I still have my collection of DVDs, but we watch a lot of movies on the Internet, whether it is on Charter or some other source.
( I still have a few VHS tapes in my collection when when I was little. ♥ ) |

I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli works but I don't have any of them on DVD. You have an impressive collection there, Velvet. Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop are my favorite anime.
