Let me tell you, I was ready to stab anyone who made ANY more noise yesterday. [lol] I'm a lot nicer today though.
Elmira, now I have the ghostbusters theme song stuck in my head. Haha. |
I hear you about the noise. Times when it would be cool to sit in a quiet house.
|
I'm really...noise sensitive. Music and TV in particular are very problematic for me.
|
My hearing loss along with Asperger's make things interesting. If I'm focused on something - reading or cooking/whatever - I tune things out. Sudden noise or constant loud/high pitches bug me. Soki and Otto are bothered by noise (again, I think my hearing loss makes this less of an issue for me), so we have periods throughout the day that are quiet. No TV, computers/tablets, etc. if they seem overwhelmed or stressed.
My hearing loss is a combination of heredity (dad's side of the family) plus working near an aircraft maintenance area for four years when I was in the Navy. It was bad enough by the time my enlistment ended the doctor wanted to consider putting me on disability - but it would have entailed extending my enlistment for evaluation, so I refused. |
I can tune most things out, especially if I'm really concentrated. But I have NEVER liked noise. As a little kid I used to ask my parents to turn down the radio or stop singing (I was hard on the ego, heh). I never have my laptop sound on unless I'm intentionally listening to something. I just really like quiet unless I'm actively seeking conversation. I don't mind white noise so much. I tutor at a coffee shop, but speaker noise really messes with me.
Sucks that you've got the hearing loss, but not much you can do to fix it. |
No - I think of the hearing loss as a mixed blessing, actually! "Wuutt? I'm sorry, I didn't hear you." Does make it difficult when I need to hear what someone is saying, and they have little mumbly voices. It was always interesting hanging out with my dad and his father. All of us were saying "whutt?" constantly.
Are you enjoying a quieter day? |
Haha, I hate mumblers! Hearing and understanding are not the same thing. I can hear a mumbler just fine, but that doesn't mean I understand a word they're trying to say! [lol]
I am kinda....they're watching Nascar, which is better than music, but still irritating. I'm gonna disappear for a few. Gotta do my last homework assignment for the week. |
Good luck with your homework! I think we're going to watch Ghostbusters 2 (again!) and Otto is trying to take over my laptop so he can find more Skylander-ish toys to add to my Amazon wishlist. He's content even though he knows I cannot satisfy his pirate-like drive to buy more toys right now.
|
I'm very noise sensitive as well. (I have an extremely keen sense of smell also.) [yes]
|
There just gets to be too much going on at my house, the fishtanks, the TV, the boys talking, hubby talking, the scanner talking... the list goes on. I go batshit crazy and start screaming at everyone to be quiet. xP
|
Heh, I'm not allowed to do that. Because it's my parents' house, not mine. But I get really snippy and hurt people's feelings accidentally. But it just makes me crazy.
Homework is finished, though I'll be in and out doing art. I have two to finish today for the challenge, and then one more I want to do (a koi, for the neighbors). Haha, Otto is all MOAR TOOOYYYYSSS! [rofl] |
I have the house to myself most days as both my parents work full time, and they seem to understand now how much noise bothers me - it drives me crazy. Same with dad, but he's not nearly as sensitive as me.
I'm headed over to my bestie's house this afternoon and I'll be staying for the week - or something like that. We've not totally decided what day I need to come home. I do know I need to be home by Friday night (as I work on Saturday) but we'll figure it out. I have like nearly 200 newly scanned pictures to upload which I can do at her house, because her internet is faster than ours here. I also figured out last night which cord I need to use to plug into my laptop to be able to go online at home on my own computer. So that's nice. :] But my parent's computer screen is bigger than my laptop screen so I usually end up on theirs. As I'm also too lazy to plug my laptop in. [lol] |
Have fun at your friend's house, Cloud!
|
Have fun Cloudy!
|
Thanks! She's been trying to get me over there, and with me turning down the majority of my job (I'm there as a back up emergency baby sitter, so I don't work during the week, just a few Fridays and sometimes on Saturdays, but during the majority of the week I don't work - so that's the only reason it'll work. :] I am excited to get to see her, as well as her godson, who's been asking her when I'll be coming around to see them. He doesn't know I'm coming tonight. :) I'm going to surprise him!
|
Dinner time, gotta go.
|
Have a good dinner - I'm about to leave to head to my best friend's house. See y'all later! :)
