The Giver, I remember reading that. Though I never read it all the way through... Back then I usually didn't finish books.

That reminds me of The Lord of the Flies, another interesting book that I was forced to read (this one was in 9th or 10th grade though). I feel like there was another book that I thought was really interesting. It was about the future, and aliens being everywhere... Aliens that looked like devils.

Apparently they added a bunch of subtext to the movie that didn't exist in the book. They also created a major character out of a character that was mentioned in two lines.

I remember disliking the Harry Potter movies...or the couple that I watched, anyway. The first one was so bad it put me off from watching all the rest of them after that. [XD]
