Magic Is Just Science We Don't Know Yet
Lavender sighed and absently conjured a few sparkling butterflies. She and her partner were supposed to be waiting for some sort of instructions from the SHIELD higher-ups, but she had no idea what they were or when they'd get them. So for now she was bored out of her mind and she couldn't even fill the boredom.
|
Lessa was sitting next to Lavender, stretched out and sitting comfortably with her eyes closed. She was used to being more patient, and she was taking the time to center herself a bit. Being an empath wasn't easy, after all, so she took every chance she got to keep herself centered and calm.
She did open her eyes when Coulson walked into the room. "Come with me," he said, looking at the two before heading back towards his office, clearly expecting to be followed. |
Lavender knew better than to distract Lessa, which was why she was distracting herself with the butterflies. When Coulson walked in, though, she flicked her wand and cancelled the spell. She slid her wand up her sleeve, into its holster, and stood up.
"Where are we going?" she asked as she followed him. |
"My office," Coulson said, leading the way back. He waited until they were inside and shut the door. "You two are being assigned to help with a problem in New York. There is a team there already, but they aren't used to dealing with threats that are magical in nature."
|
Lavender blinked at that.
"Magical?" she asked. "How did you guys manage to get your hands on it before my people did?" She would have asked if her government had handed the situation to SHIELD, but if they had, there would be no need for the unofficially-but-affectionately-named "Weird Shit Team." |
"It came to us," Coulson said dryly. "I assume you both remember the events in New York a few months ago?" When they nodded, he continued. "Loki is back on Earth without his magic. Apparently someone got the idea to wreak havoc while he was around, and the team there can't handle everything at once."
|
"So are we helping with the havoc, or looking after Loki?" Lavender asked, intrigued. Because they had been briefed about Loki, yes. And Lavender could safely say she was fascinated with meeting a god.
|
"Both," Coulson said dryly. "You will need to ensure that Loki's current residence is sufficient to hold him, and so long as it is, you will then focus on helping deal with the more imminent threat."
|
Lavender grinned. Now that sounded like fun.
"Well, then, what do we do, and when do we start?" |
"You're flying out to New York as soon as you're ready to go," Coulson said. "Your assignment officially is to assist however you can. Check on Loki first, and then deal with the other threat. How you do so is entirely up to you."
|
Lavender grinned.
"Great," she said. She liked having that kind of leeway. Too many restrictions tended to end up with junior agents ending the day as brightly-colored animals. |
"Go get ready." Coulson looked at the two, not quite shooing them from his office but dismissing them anyway.
|
Lavender nodded and looked at Lessa.
"Want me to enchant your bag again so it's bigger on the inside?" she asked. |
"Sure," Lessa said with a brief grin. "Since it sounds like we might be gone a while." She headed out of Coulson's office so they could head back to their apartments.
|
Lavender grinned and walked with her friend to the apartment. "This sounds like an interesting assignment."
|
"No kidding. We're meeting a god." Lessa paused. "And you realize if we're going to New York and a team is already there, you know what team it is, right?"
|
Lavender grinned widely and nodded.
"Yeah," she said. "This is going to be awesome." |
"Yes it is." Lessa grinned. "Well, I'll pack up as soon as you're done enchanting my bag, and then I'll help you if you want and we can go."
|
"Great," Lavender said. She grinned, grabbed Lessa's arm, and Apparated them both to their apartment. It was faster that way.
|
Lessa was used to it by now, having been Apparated all over, but she still shook herself when they landed in her apartment.
"Impatient much?" she asked dryly, going to grab her SHIELD-issue duffel bag. |
"Just a little," Lavender replied, grinning a bit and taking out her wand. Sometimes she loved magic, it was just so convenient. She went into her own room and grabbed her own SHIELD-issue duffel and enchanted the inside. Something about what the bag was made of prevented the charm from holding for more than a week, so she had to keep re-enchanting it every time she used it, unless she wasn't bringing more than the bag itself could hold. Once it was enchanted, she turned to the rest of her room and waved her wand. Things started flying off of shelves and out of drawers, dropping into the bag. Clothes folded mid-air before dropping into the bag, and various other things organized themselves as they did the same.
She zipped the duffel, grinning, and cast a weight-reducing charm on it. Then she took it out into the other room and set it by the door. "Done packing!" she called to Lessa. |
"Congrats, I'm still working," Lessa called back with a grin. She had enough clothes to last her for a while, and she had her weapons and extra ammo in there. It didn't take her too much longer to pack than it did Lavender, so then she zipped up her bag and carried it out.
"Now I'm done." |
Lavender cast the same weight-reduction charm in Lessa's bag that was on her own, and then grinned. "Then we're ready to go."
|
"Are we Apparating?" Because if they were, Lessa wanted to be prepared this time.
|
"Just back to the Helicarrier," Lavender said. "Didn't Coulson say we were getting a plane?"
