"Yeah, I think so." Lessa shrugged. "Well, I'm ready to go when you are."
"Grab your bag." Once they were both ready, Lavender took Lessa's arm again and Apparated them back to the Helicarrier.
Lessa shook herself and then carried her bag off to the side. An agent was quick to lead them over to a Quinjet so they could get going.
Lavender followed, making sure to dampen her magical core as much as she could. She was no Morgan le Fay, but she could still accidentally interfere with the instruments in a jet if she wasn't careful.
Lessa settled into the jet as well, doing a quick check to make sure no one was upset or anything before they left. And then she yawned, settled in, and relaxed for the rest of the flight.
Lavender settled in and pulled out a book.
"Lessa, you said you wanted to see one of my old textbooks from school, right? I found one if you want to look at it." |
"Sure," Lessa said after a moment, settling in her seat. "Will I understand any of it?"
"Possibly," Lavender said, digging out another book. "It's geared for essentially a fifth-grade reading level. It was the first textbook we were assigned, everything before that was mostly workbooks and worksheets." She grinned a bit. "I didn't even get my first wand until third grade. They figure you're ready for one when you're ready to move on to writing in cursive."
Lessa snorted. "Sounds about right," she said with a brief grin. "I barely remember grade school. Or middle school." She took the book and opened it, settling it on her lap. "We'll see how much I get."
Lavender grinned and opened up the other book (this one purely for fun) and started reading, although she kept an ear out for any questions Lessa had.
Lessa held off on her questions for the moment, deciding to finish the book first and then ask questions.
Which took the entire flight basically. |
Lavender could see her friend practically vibrating with pent-up questions.
"What are you dying to ask first?" she teased as she grabbed their things when the plane landed. |
"Mainly what it's like," Lessa said, grabbing her own bag and getting off the plane. "To be able to do all this."
"It's really kind of fun," Lavender admitted as she walked with her friend off the quinjet. "Although I've been working on wandless magic. I really hate not being able to do anything if I don't have my wand."
"I imagine that would be frustrating," Lessa agreed mildly. "Anything I can do to help you practice?"
"Not right now, I don't think," Lavender replied. "But thanks. If I think you can help, I'll definitely let you know."
Lessa nodded and followed the agent up to the top of Stark Tower, here Loki was being held.
"Mr. Stark," the agent greeted. "These are the two Agent Coulson said he would have assist you." |
The entire way up the tower, Lavender could swear that she felt the tingle of someone's wards on the building. She didn't know whose, but she could feel them around her and it made her want to figure out whose they were. She paused when she saw Tony, and grinned a bit. It was kind of cool to be in the same room as Tony Stark.
"So you're the specialists, huh?" Tony looked at the two for a moment before he shrugged. "Well, come on, this way."
Lessa let Lavender go first, although she did feel out everyone in the room, just in case. She could feel someone rather disgruntled in the other room, though. |
Lavender nodded and followed, ready to draw her wand at a moment's notice if she had to.
Loki was lounging in the room on the furniture that was there. Surprisingly, there was a chair and an actual sofa, and a small table. There wasn't anything else, though. He glanced over when the door opened. "May I help you?" he drawled. |
"Nope," Tony said, looking at him for a moment. "You can sit there and be good while these two do their jobs."
Lessa raised an eyebrow at Lavender before nodding for her to go inspect things. Lessa just hung back a bit, looking around the room. At least it was comfortable. |
Lavender nodded in return and stepped into the room. She felt a bit self-conscious as she pulled her wand out of her sleeve, because she knew everyone was watching her, but she ignored it in favor of putting up anti-magic wards and checking on the rest of the things keeping Loki there. Whoever had been there before had been surprisingly thorough; she barely had to tweak anything.
Lessa didn't bother watching Lavender, instead watching and feeling Loki for his reaction. If he seemed overly disappointed she'd warn Lavender to be more careful.
Tony paid Lavender some attention, although he was mostly checking what spells she'd used. |
Loki was watching Lavender with some interest; he hadn't thought they would sent another mage to keep an eye on him. He'd thought the first two would be it. Apparently not.
"For the moment, I think that's it," Lavender said after a few more minutes. "Whoever was here before me did a good job." |
Tony nodded. "Good to know. Anything else you two need to do in here? Or should we head upstairs?"
