"I think we can head upstairs for now," Lavender said, slipping her wand back up her sleeve and turning a bit to look at him. She wasn't going to turn her back on Loki, though.
|
Tony nodded and led the way out of the room, locking Loki in again before leading the way upstairs.
"Hey, Cap, you got that file Coulson sent?" he asked, looking over at Steve. Because while SHIELD didn't have much information on the douchebag making their lives difficult, they did have some information. |
Steve looked over at Tony when he came into the room.
"I've got it," he said, nodding and handing Tony the file. He looked at the girls. "Are they the team from SHIELD?" |
"Yup. Steve, SHIELD flunkies, SHIELD flunkies, Captain America." Tony grinned and went to go pour himself some coffee.
Lessa nodded to Steve. |
Lavender rolled her eyes.
"My name is Lavender Grace. I know it's a frilly name, blame my mother for it." She grinned. "Steve Rodgers," Steve replied, holding out a hand. Lavender shook it. "And your partner?" |
"Lessa Saunders," she said, holding out a hand to him. "She does all the heavy lifting." She ginned a bit.
|
Steve looked a bit confused.
"Heavy lifting?" he asked, looking between the two. |
"Metaphorically, usually," Lessa said. "She's the witch here, so she's the one who will be more helpful with whatever it is you're dealing with at the moment."
|
Steve blinked.
"A witch?" he asked, glancing between the two. "That word, I don't think it means what you think it means," Lavender said. She grinned a bit. "You're probably thinking green skin, pointy hat, melts in water?" She shook her head a bit and pulled out her wand. "Nope. Just magic, that's all." |
"She doesn't even do that many curses," Lessa added helpfully. "She went to school for magic. It's no more odd than having a talent for something, and I'd definitely rank magic as less weird than Norse gods."
|
"I suppose," Steve said uncertainly. Lavender grinned and slipped her wand back up her sleeve.
"Try not to think about it," she said. "It helps some, I've heard." |
Lessa snorted and picked up the file, flipping through it. She could be backup and crowd control, but she was a somewhat average SHIELD agent, and she didn't have super special training like two other SHIELD agents she knew.
|
Lavender looked over Lessa's shoulder. She wasn't a SHIELD-trained agent, but Auror training was similar enough that she was on loan to SHIELD. Besides, she was there as the magical part of the team. She could help with crowd-control and such, but she could also do more than that.
"What sort of thing are we looking at?" she asked. |
"It's something magical in nature," Lessa said quietly. "So your department this time. Sounds like whatever it is has started wreaking havoc all over, moving statues and startling civilians and such."
|
Lavender skimmed the reports, nodding in agreement.
"Individually, those aren't hard to counter," she said. "But we still need to stop whoever is doing it, so that it doesn't keep happening." |
Lessa nodded. "So rather than just stopping the events, we need to stop the person. And we need to find the person. Lovely. Should be oodles of fun."
|
"No kidding," Lavender replied. She sighed. "Alright, the easiest way to do this would be for me to get a feel for this person's magic. If I can do that, I might be able to track them down, if they haven't warded themselves in."
|
"And the best way for you to get a feel for their magic is while they're using it, right?" Tony piped up. "You'll have to wait for that, then."
|
Lavender didn't jump when Tony spoke. Much.
"When did you get back in here?" she asked, turning to him. Then she paused. "And how do you know that?" She looked at him a bit closer. |
"I've been here, I've just been doodling," Tony said with a grin. "And I know because that's exactly how it works with hackers. You have to catch them in the act, the tiny bit of footprint they leave behind usually isn't enough to track them. Well, for most people, I can do it because I'm a genius and I'm awesome, but most people aren't me."
|
Lavender studied him for a few more moments. Something about what he said didn't sit quite right, but she couldn't figure out exactly what it was or why it wasn't right, so she let it go.
"Fair enough," she said. "So that's what needs to happen. Unravelling one of their spells might work, if I can get my hands on one." |
"Can't help you there, sorry." Because Tony had an image to uphold. Even if he did know where a few of the spells were hanging around.
|
"Of course not," Lavender sighed. Because clearly the universe didn't want to make things easy. "So I guess we're going to be hanging around here until something happens."
|
"Yeah, sure, get comfortable," Tony said, making a vague waving motion. He'd kind of expected they'd be around for a while.
|
"Any guest rooms we can commandeer?" Lavender asked, gesturing to Lessa and then to their bags.
