It did follow historical country interactions, I won't deny that.
I think the part I watched was around the second world war because there were interactions between Italy, Germany and Japan the Axis powers... It seems to be a popular and fairly well received anime, it just didn't entertain me....so I'm probably the weird one for not liking it. |
I suppose it would depend on how the characters are portrayed... Like yknow.. Japan being "normal"...

It irks me now that I watched so much Bleach. I mean, I was only watching it because it was part of the saturday anime block, but jesus it's the same thing over and over: "you need to power up - trained to power up time to fight- haha you cannot defeat me, protagonist- what you are beating me this is impossible- new obstacle you need to power up" |
For me, it HAS to be Bo Bo Bo-Bo Bo Bo.
Why have an anime with the main guy uses nose hairs and a v. horrible storyline? |
@ Biggles - So true... so depressingly true
|
I'm glad I never really got into Bleach, I've heard from many sources that it's just the way Biggles describes it. I've also heard from those who've kept up with the story that it seems like Tite Kubo is running out of ideas and for whatever reason just keeps the story going. D:

I have to say long animes seem to fall into the same trap as Bleach has. Look at Naruto and Inuyasha. I mean even the good long animes like Sailor Moon, Ranma, and Slayers fell into the same trap. The poor long animes seem not to know when to create at new story line unlike the good long animes. I hope I make some sense. I'm trying to write this when my sis is bugging me.

Ah yeah where it just kind of drags on...
I've seen a few of those good ones. They're very rare |
When an anime is an adaption from a manga, I like the anime to follow relatively closely to the manga, unfortunately, and especially with Shoujo manga it seems the maximum anime episodes the anime creators are willing to make is 26 even if the manga has a lot more story...Fruits Basket was disappointing in this regard. I was fortunate in a way in that I watched the anime before I read the manga, so it was nice to read about the chicken and the horse characters of the zodiac. Having said that, the Fruits Basket anime is almost a good stand-alone anime, as long as it's not compared to the manga.
|
I don't like when they leave a bunch of characters out :(
|
I agree. Fruits Basket was interesting because of the characters being associated with the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, I was expecting the chicken and horse characters to be depicted in the anime, but they were never shown...lol.

Personally I really found School Days the worst anime I ever sat through and to this day I still don't know how my friend convinced me to watch it. It was basically just a harem show about some guy that did not have any good qualities at all (at least I can't remember them). It started out cute about him making a picture (a little bit stalkerish) off the girl he liked but it turned bad very quickly and before you knew it everyone was doing him. For ridiculous reason.
It literally was a pain to finish and I still cringe when people tell me it's realistic and has a good story. Some Ero games should just stay ero games. |
^ lol the end was pretty ridiculous I agree, and you have strange friends that told you the School Days is a realistic anime, perhaps they WANT it to be realistic (no way though, not even 1 sane girl will ever do someone out of no special reason, especially if they all started as virgins before him), but just BECAUSE the anime was ridiculous at the end it was fun to watch - I laughed kinda a lot all the way heh.
|
"Realistic"... when it happens in reality I'll let you know... if I don't die of old age first
|
I shouldn't be here; I should be editing my dissertation. But procrastination is a powerful force.
Anyway, having seen tons of obscure anime when I was in Japan last year, I'd have to say the very worst anime ever is Genma Taisen, known in English as Harmageddon. It's got one of those psychic/wartime/mythology plots that were popular in the 1980s, but it's animated badly, it has a horrible score, and even the voice acting in Japanese is bad. *shudder* |
Although this is highly popular, I can't stand High School of the Dead. I personally think that's ONE of the worst anime.
|
I second the School Days post from higher up. It's the first anime where I felt disgusted with myself afterwards for watching it. The ending was probably the only good thing about it, if only for the shock value.
Eiken was pretty terrible, too. Gag boobs for the yuck. |
@ Kitty - I've been iffy on seeing that one... it looks a bit unusual...
@ Ex - I can see what you mean... I couldn't manage very far on Eiken... |
One word ...Clannad . It was so weak it left me feeling like a cabbage for a week .
|
I forgot Clannad existed... I wouldn't call it the worst in a sea of bad animes based on VNs, but it's definitely one of the most stereotypical ones, from what I remember. I never bothered to watch Clannad: After Story, though. |
I never saw Clannad... been tempted to, but if it's actually bad... maybe I shouldn't...
|
I'd say to experience it and judge for yourself. I mean, the plot isn't horrible and the characters, for the most part, are really likable compared to most harem animes. Plus, it's not really fanservicey. If you like that sort of thing, you'd probably like it. |
Not too much fanservice? That can be a perk. Some anime it's like "Stop, I'm sick of seeing underwear move the camera up!"
|
Zatch Bell. Tried watching it as a kid and I couldn't get over how ridiculous the whole concept was [XP]
Also, Boku no Pico |
Just looked up Zatch Bell... I stopped reading when I saw "Caused him to shoot lightning from his mouth".... uhh... what?
