Xbox One
So the next generation of xbox was announced today.
What do you think? I don't have much of an opinion other than aesthetic ones, because I haven't done much research, but so far I'm saying that it's unattractive and badly named. Why is it the ONE? It's the third xbox... |
I'm thinking its called one because its a bunch of things stuffed into one console. Like television, applications and what now seems to be just another component and not a main feature, games.
It looks quite nice in my opinion but I'm sad about there being 15 new games and 8 new franchises exclusively for the Xbox one. I finally just bought a 360 one month ago. Oh well, at least my games will be going for cheaper? I haven't seen the presentation yet, I've just read articles about it. I'll watch it when I get home. |
I... Do not like it. I feel like they're moving away from Gaming and into a home entertainment system instead.
Also, It does not look like an Xbox. |
I like what's under the hood; an 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, blu-ray...
But there's no backward compatibility? And you have to pay a fee to play used games? And speaking of games... where ARE the games? So, in a nutshell? Thanks, Microsoft, but NO thanks; if I need an XBox, I'll just get my old 360 unbricked. :/ edit: in fact, the ENTIRE next generation of consoles is, to me, underwhelming. At least the WiiU has backwards compatibility. |
I've got to be honest, I don't like the direction they're going with it. The reason I buy a console is to play games on it, not watch tv.
Now, I'm sure they're going to reveal a bunch of games for it at E3, but even then, I have a feeling that games won't be a prominent focus of the console, which is pretty disappointing. The fact that Kinect needs to be connected to it to function isn't very appealing either. Imo, Kinect is a gimmicky feature that they're now trying to force onto everyone. This pretty much sums up the reveal. |
I'll say first that i'm a dedicated Playstation user. But I'm not a rabid fanboy, who bends over backwards to bash the XBox. So it's just that no matter the state of the XBox One, unless the PS4 turns into a mega disaster, my money will go toward Sony. -- But I try not to be so biased.
That said, it has to be agreed that Microsoft really shot themselves in the foot with their early conference, judging by consumer reaction. The biggest thing, I think, is the uncertain issue of used games. Reports are conflicting, but as stands it's sound like a whole lot of iffy. Aside from the once-a-day internet synch, there's also the matter of Microsoft allowing developers the freedom to have their games require a constant internet connection, meaning that should your internet go down or the game's servers go down, you're unable to enjoy even a single player game. -- I don't know the kinda freedom Sony gives developers, so that's neither here nor there. And then you have the people who are uncomfortable with having the Kinect forced upon them. Whether or not it will be the all hearing, all seeing unblinking eye that some proclaim it to be, the idea is out there and has put a lot of consumers at unease. And, as Sleepy Anarchy pointed out, the conference seemed to focus mainly on the home entertainment aspect, rather than just being a gaming console, which it's supposed to be. For myself, I don't care about Skype or Facebook or Twitter. I don't watch a whole lot of TV and I can give two shits about the NFL. Microsoft supporters keep saying to wait for E3, and then make up your mind. And they're right. That's good advice. Advice Microsoft should have taken themselves. E3 is in three weeks. Why couldn't they have waited that short amount of time and put together a proper conference, instead of a hodge podge of fuckery? |
I look at it this way -- if I want an XBox, I'll get my old 360 unbricked. Or get another used one. Maybe I'll wait until the new models go down in price, and get one used.
I'd also like to get a PS4... but yeah, no I won't. I do want a PS3, though -- mostly for the HD versions of FF X and FF X2. And easy to import games, thanks to the US version of PS3's blu-ray being in the same region as Japan, meaning I can play Kamen Rider Battride War or Macross 30 if I want to. [:D] But yeah -- I don't think I'll get a XB1(or a PS4 for that matter). |
... oh? Is there any chance you know if Canada is in the same region as Japan, onsenmark? Because that would be super sweet... :D

Welp.
They Un-****ed most of their stupid ideas. |

Microsoft's original DRM policy was a deal breaker. However, now that they've changed their position I'm considering purchasing a Xbox One. There's a few exclusive games for the Xbox One that I would like to play.
Still, it's at tough choice. The cost of a Xbox One could buy me a second GPU for my desktop guaranteeing all the power I would need play all the new titles. |
Yeah, now that they've changed their minds, I'm considering it, but maybe in a year or two. The starting price here is $750. Ugh.
