Petalli and The Hungry Ghost Inn (No Profiles required, Just follow Post two)
In ancient times Petalli was a peaceful and flourishing little town in the Ritiy'oon Mountains, surrounded by the beautiful and full Salitti Forest. It's most famous structure was the monastery at its heart, which the town had formed around. The monastery was famous for it's collection of books and religious artifacts that the monks had faithfully gathered, then spent their days transcribing those books in various languages for the betterment of all. They mainly focused on religious texts as monks are prone to do but would also spend time on other books. They seemed safe, cloistered up in a building of stone surrounded only by the Petalli graveyard with its peaceful dead. Of course, if things had continued on like this there would not be much of a legend. One day, everything would change. A strange mist would surround the graveyard and the Monastery watching guard over it, so thick one could not see through it and seeming to hug the buildings like it had a will of it's own. Screams escaped the mists, shrieking deadly screams and splatters of blood began to escape the mists. The mist seemed to grow the more lives it took and soon small animistic demons formed of some poisonous black substance would become visible as the mist took over the town. Those who did not flee were murdered, and their ghosts trapped to be tormented. Soon the ghosts themselves would lose whatever sanity they had and become as dangerous as the demons themselves. Now there is no place of safety for those who come seeking the monastery's great treasures except the Hungry Ghost Inn. The Hungry Ghost Inn is a large building made up of several smaller ones linked together through shared walls and protective arches, filled with power. The main archway before the front door will glow when viewed by one seeking protection, calling to the living and baring entry to the dead. If you enter through the wide front doors you will find a large sitting room, with a check in desk and stairway. Standing at the desk is a ghost named Sarah, tall and beautiful. She kindly will check in any who come in, having been attached to the building since before the great tragedy. She loves the Inn, though it was once a great mansion. Other harmless ghosts occasionally drift through the inn, hiding from the mists outside that has driven their brethren insane. They are shaken and generally drift unexpectedly through the large inn's many rooms. There are even multiple rooms underground, with only a couple stories above the ground. Below are several stories, most of the walls made of brick. There are rooms as well as black-smithing facilities, sewing rooms, and other useful rooms to keep people well taken care of. There are even several 'garden' rooms, maintained by the magic of the blind vampire Soairse who built the inn. Much of the food is grown there, the mystical plants providing their own sunlight. The Inn is in fact entirely self sufficient through her powers, with which she occasionally hunts to fill the ice lockers with beasts from the forests from outside the mists. |

The Night Rises At the Hungry Ghost Inn http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6d3a5853.jpg Open for Posting!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote:
She sat on one of the couches, her sweeping gown parting to reveal her legs as she sprawled comfortably on the plush velvet. There were also cuts in the waist on either side to leave much of her skin exposed, the air allowing her to sense much of the goings on. She only was ever careful to cover her essentials and her neck while still making sure the cut was elegant enough to be to her satisfaction. She yawned softly and closed her eyes a moment, her fangs glistening. She raised her head, however, sensing another approach. Quote:
Once she arrived in sight of the arch the ghost woman wailed and disappeared, the magic flaring as a golden light to welcome the wanderer. She smiled, her blood red lips wide as she slid to a stop through the arch. She hesitated a moment as she gazed upwards, sensing the great power emanating from the place. She took a deep breath, perhaps she would be safe here..... With that she entered slowly, pushing the door open. She soon saw a vampire sitting on the couch but was called by...... a ghost...???? She almost ran but soon the ghost, Sarah, had laughed and reassured her along with the vampire on the couch. Necromancer she suspected... ”... alright..... Aya.... the room should be under the name Aya 'Iyyov” She said simply in response to the ghosts questions before she walked over and began to sign her name. She was a little afraid of the death magic surrounding the area and even this woman but at least she knew her pursuers would not come for her here.... and if she could solve the mystery, if she could purify this place...... perhaps they would accept her back home and lift her exile... |
Alexei shivered, pulling his cloak tighter around him. This place, the darkness in it called to a part of his mind, a part of soul he wished he could deny having. It called to the darkness within him, trying to feed it and feed from it, but he resisted, as best he could. He would not lose himself to darkness yet, not now at least. He moved at a swift pace, not sure what he was looking for, knowing he had only come to this place because it had beckoned him. Now, of course the mage was regretting it, but it didn't matter really. Here or somewhere else, darkness and evil would always call to that part of himself he tried to keep hidden away.
Spirits crept closer, hungry for his existence, hungry to take his life. He had shielded himself with a ward, but he knew it would not hold for very long in this place, especially if a ghost grew bold enough to test it's strength against Alexei's spell. He shivered again, he wasn't sure what he was looking for, but he was getting close. This place seemed to tell him not to go in the direction he was going, so he went in that direction all the faster. His swift pace increased again until he was running as fast as human legs could possibly carry him. He had to remind himself, it wasn't entirely the evil in this place that called him, there were also books in the monastery he had wanted to look through. An archway loomed ahead of him, he stepped through the archway and relaxed. The darkness had wanted him to stay on the other side, and now he could barely feel it's influence, it's seductive whispers in his mind. Alexei shook his head, pulled his cloak tighter about him and let the protective ward that somewhat shielded him drop. Moments later he was stepping into the Inn. Blue eyes gazing almost shyly and uncertainly over the interior, he didn't hesitate to move to the check inn desk, but it took him a few moments to acquire a room. As he had to work up the courage to speak with the hostess , not because she was a ghost, but because she was a stranger to him. |
Quote:
There was darkness in his aura.... she could feel it even as her magic suppressed it within the Inn. It was easy to guess that he was one of those drawn here. It was only natural really, the monastery's darkness needed to feed and so it would draw those it wished towards the place. It's demons were many, and their hunger constant. Much like the Weeping Lady outside, even some of it's ghosts were hungry for the blood of others. The vampire in turn fed on them even as she guided adventurers trying to destroy them. She did not stand, however, as they seemed afraid enough she wasn't sure if they'd bolt. So she stayed on the couch, lounging as if she was another guest. Quote:
"Hello, I'm Aya. Are you here to check out the monastery too?" She asked softly, her tone a little uncertain as she held out her hand for him to shake. She was sure they could help each other, and it would be better then being alone. Her instinct was to run, just like the rest of her kind, rather than fighting even if she had learned to fight over time in exile. She could hold her own and knew magic but it would be easier to ignore the instinct with another there. She would have an urge to protect then and that was always stronger then the urge to run. |
At least the place wasn't crowded, Alexei wasn't sure how he would have felt if the place had been full of people. Though that was rather stupid, why would a place in the middle of all this darkness be crowded? Well, that was a stupid question, darkness called to darkness, that was why. So then, were these others here because hid a darkness in their soul too? He had taken his room key and it vanished somewhere within the folds of his robe, then one of the females was speaking to him. His heart beat a little faster, strangers talking to him, he wanted the attention. Perhaps he could be friends with her, but that initial meeting was always frightening for him. He could be so awkward, and he was certain he would just end up saying something stupid.
"I...ah..Books." Inwardly he flinched. That had been dumb, he was so worthless at conversations. "I meant, there are books I think I might like to read in the monastery." He sounded a littler uncertain, but he was sure things would get easier, the more he spoke to this person and the less of a stranger they were to him. Still, people weren't really things he liked to surround himself with. He'd never gotten along well with them, and people could be so cruel over the tiniest mistakes. Honestly, she was probably just talking to him because he was the only other person there and she was bored, at least that was what he suggested to himself. |
Quote:
She didn't really mean to laugh at him though, still it seemed almost like a joke. She wasn't sure if it was or not but she was genuinely warming up to him. He was nothing like the aristocrats back home, despite his looks and it rather appealed to her. He seemed a little lost though. It was in a way very much like this place... as if he were waiting for something. What he was waiting for she couldn't imagine, but she did hope she could help him with this and him help her! ((since Seersha is just sitting observing ima leave her post blank lol)) |
She was laughing at him, he ducked his head slightly. People always laughed at him, well maybe not always, but a lot. Still it almost seemed like she had been complimenting him with that, almost. It didn't matter, soon she would just call him stupid and worthless, like all the others, because that's exactly what he was. He bit his bottom lip, watching her as she continued to speak. She wanted to purify this place, what would that mean for him? He had come to seek some of the books, though he wasn't sure which books he wanted, or maybe that had just been an excuse to get closer to the darkness?
He knew his real reason for coming, but certainly there was a book to help him be a better him. If not, then he just do as he had originally planned, let the darkness of his soul and this place consume him. Perhaps it would transform him to a terrible beast, and then he could show all of them he wasn't worthless by destroying them. If it just killed him, well everything would be better without him around to muck things up. His right hand clenched into a tight fist for a moment, and he blinked. Work together? He seemed rather surprised by that suggestion. "That's...That's not a good idea." If she didn't already know how worthless he was, it wouldn't take her long to figure it out if they worked together. He shifted on his feet slightly. "I'm no good, I'll just make things more difficult for you." |
Quote:
"If you don't want to help me that's okay... but I know we can help each other. " |
So she thought he was unusual? Well that was nothing new. Weird, unusual, those words meant the same thing really. Still she had apologized, more or less. The rest of her words didn't make him feel any better, she could easily say that. Say that no one was worthless, simply because she didn't know him. Or maybe she was just trying to trick him. Pretend to be his friend so it would be that much crueler when she did finally call him names or try to send him away. It had happened before, one more than one occasion, truly he didn't understand why.
Why wouldn't anyone ever help him to be better instead of using his worthlessness for their amusement and more excuses to be cruel to him. "..No..I...I want to help." He didn't mind helping people, except he wasn't sure he truly wanted to help her in the first place. She was here to purify, and he was here to be consumed. Besides things always went wrong, he always made things worse, he was never really any help to anyone ever. He didn't even have a title, not an aristocratic one or a magic associated one. Kicked out of the school of magic, and then disowned by his own mother for such incompetence. "But I'll just make things worse..because I always make things worse, and nothing I do comes out right. I'd be more of a help to you by not helping at all." Saying such things, it made his heart hurt, but only because it was all true. He was the most useless person in the world, of that he was certain. Alexei moved to walk away. Certain now that she would call him stupid or something and tell him to leave her alone anyway. |
Quote:
As her stubbornness lifted her spirits she gave him a soft smile, only then did she notice he had started to move away. Her lips flickered into a pouting frown and she raised an eyebrow. Had she done something wrong again? She hadn't really meant to.... She did have an unusual sense of humor... had it really offended him that much? She never was really good at this sort of thing.. figuring out what others were thinking that is. Even she had to admit she was a little naive so it made it hard. |
Jackson Mason pulled the edges of his travelling cloak tighter to his body. The air was chill, and the area was foggy. Jax looked over to his twin sister. "Are you handling this alright?" He asked softly, and caught her when she tripped on a rock.
Codette Mason narrowed her eyes, as she tried to squint. "I think I see the Inn, just over there." Flipping her hair over her shoulder, she laughed. "I'm just fine bro-ooother!" she squealed as she tripped. Cody was so used to her brothers instincts as to when her clumsy-ness would take effect, it hardly bothered her anymore. "The Hungry Ghost Inn. We better get there quickly." Jax steadied his sister. The twins continued on their way. Coming up to the Inn Cody smiled. "Come on! Come on." Grabbing her brothers hand, she lead him inside. They were greeted by a woman in a maid outfit. "We need 2 rooms, if you don't mind."Jackson told the woman, who had introduced herself as Sarah. Codette took the keys from Sarah with a warm smile. "Thank you! Jax lets look around!" |
He stopped, hesitating. How could his being there be a help? If anything he was far more of a liability, even if he didn't do anything. He shook his head. "Places like this aren't spooky. I like places like this." Well now she would definitely think he was weird. It wasn't because the darkness of this place called to him that made him like it, he had always been rather fond of even the most harmless of places that people deemed spooky and feared to tread in. He was shaking his head slightly though, and looking at her rather uncertainly. "You think I would be good company?" That was a stupid question, if she had thought that, she certainly didn't now, now that he had told her he liked spooky places. He seemed rather caught, wanting to leave her, and wanting to stay long enough hear the answer to his question, even though he was certain she would answer it the way others would have. He was being stupid to think she genuinely wanted him around.

"I'm not annoying you am I? I was a little sheltered back home....so I don't always know when I say something wrong. I'm sorry." She added after a moment's thought, playing with a strand of her white hair. She glanced towards the door as she heard someone entered and watched the two enter. They were both rather pretty people she thought absently. Everyone here so far was, it was a little strange to her. She had been considered pretty back home but here she just didn't feel all that alluring really.... ((and my vampire's still watching unless someone approaches her on the couch lol) |
The dark haired woman let her songs soothe the spirits as her companion let his red eyes take in the sight of someplace he'd always wanted to visit, but had never been able to. Alban had been too caught up in what his family, his clan, needed for the past few years to be able to travel anywhere he pleased, now he could.
"Why did you want to visit this place again?" Vesta's voice was as melodious as her harp. Her loose curls wafted behind her as a light breeze swept across the area. A light chuckle escaped the man by her side. "There are rumors that here lies a powerful sword, and I want it. If doesn't lie here, well at least we've found ourselves in an adventure." The cream colored bird upon his shoulder chirped lightly, as if to say it agreed with it's master's words. The pair arrived at the inn without trouble, and Vesta took care of signing them in. They were in separate rooms of course though adjoining. Theirs was a partnership of convenience. Alban took the opportunity to wander nearer a powerful force of energy within the Inn. A woman, yes, but not human. She was as inhuman as he. "This is a strange place for an Inn." He'd no idea who she was. Perhaps the rather neutral comment would help him figure that out. |
Quote:
"Strange perhaps, but most assuredly a place that seemed needed. An adventurer should have a place to lay their head now and then, don't you think?" The smooth, lightly accented voice of hers responded. She spoke in a soft, distant sort of way as if always musing about something. It was the nature of how she spoke really and had always been, her age somehow permeating her voice. It was a welcoming tone, but at the same time one could feel her power in the words if they were at all sensitive. It was one reason that even those who came to drive out demons and the like were not foolish enough to mess with the vampiress. One knew she was both friendly and deadly by merely listening to her. |
He had only been trying to leave her because he felt certain she would just send him away anyway. Now he wasn't so certain and she seemed a little confused as to why he would walk away. Alexei turned slightly as others entered, to watch them enter and to make sure he wasn't in the way of any of them. His tongue flicked out to lick his lips in an almost nervous gesture. "I...what? No, you're not annoying." He bowed his head slightly to her. "...I think..someone who isn't me would be better suited to helping you....Maybe one of them." He glanced at the others that had entered, and then he was moving away. Almost hurriedly. The place seemed to be attracting more people.
Silently he berated himself, he had been so awkward during that conversation, he never really knew how to talk to people or what he was supposed to say. Social interaction was something he had never been comfortable with and always awkward at. Now there were more people in this establishment, but that would be alright. He would just try not to show them how useless and stupid he really was, so maybe they would be nice to him. So far that girl had been fairly nice to him, though he still wasn't sure if maybe she was trying to trick him or something. He had moved away from her quickly, heading towards his room. To hide for a little while, and to think. |
Codette started to explore, she noticed a few guests in conversation and one gorgeous woman sitting alone on the couch. Cody walked up. "Hello. You look lonley." Her green eyes were bright with curiosity.
Jackson came up behind his twin. "Cody, don't bother people." I'm sorry about my sister miss." He spoke softly, but politely. Cody frowned and looked at the girls outfit. She wished she had gowns as beautiful as hers. Travelling with her brother, Cody just wore simple trousers, same as him. It was an easier outfit to move in, but every girl wants to feel like one once and a while, |
He inclined his head slightly. "True, but too much comfort dulls the edge needed to survive, wouldn't you say?" Red eyes flickered to the pair of siblings who'd approached them. They seemed normal enough, a little over excited perhaps .. Or at least the girl was.
The bird upon Alden's shoulder took off, flying slowly around the room. It seemed to sense it's master's annoyance with the situation. He'd hoped to find a place eiher full of other adventurers, or to find it empty. Things weren't quite like that, and the unexpectedness of it made the man want to turn upon his heel and walk out. Vesta leaned against the counter by the ghost and began plucking at her harp absentmindedly. The dark haired woman began to play in earnest, slender fingers dancing across the strings, when she noticed a man making his way towards the rooms. He seemed like he needed to hear some calming music, and perhaps it would soothe all the other guests as well. She hoped so. |
Quote:
"Not nearly as much as being unable to sleep or eat would." She responded to the male, an amusement in her tone. It did take much weakness for the darkness here to tear a person down. Even the most holy of people often found their minds under siege in this place, if the strange demon like creatures didn't just break their barriers and spells out right. Saoirse's magic and power only stood up so easily because it was as ancient as the evil here. She simply smiled at the man, however, with an absent thought that her guests seemed interesting. Quote:
"You play beautifully." She said gently, her voice warm and full of admiration. She had always loved music but it was little surprise. The priestess had never been able to play a note no matter how much she tried. Aya was honestly even a little tone deaf if she tried to sing. The dark haired woman seemed so gentle that Aya wondered why she had come to such a place. Perhaps it was because of her male companion? He seemed much more your usual sort of adventure. |
Alexei paused for a moment when music began playing, and he turned to see who was playing. He watched the girl strum her fingers along the harp for a few moments, he somewhat wanted to approach her and tell her how lovely the music was. Alexei was too unsure of himself and shy to do something like that, she would probably just send him away for being annoying. He turned and continued until he finally disappeared into his room. He wouldn't be in his room for too long, probably. He wasn't much of a people person, but he did like observing people, and now that there were so many people there he secretly hoped one of them or all of them could save him from himself. From the darkness in his soul and the darkness outside that called to him. He highly doubted that though, these people had no reason to even care about why he was here, and once they got to know him they would realize how useless and stupid he was. He sat down on the floor in the middle of the room and closed his eyes.
|
Vesta smiled as she saw the man hesitate, then turned the expression to the young woman who'd complimented her. "Thank you for the kind compliment." The amethyst clad woman continued to play. She did want to soothe people's minds and bring calmness to places.
Alden tilted his head slightly to peer at the new comers, then returned his attention to the woman lying on the sofa. "True enough. So why did you choose here, of all dangerous places to put an inn?" As an afterthought, he decided to introduce himself. "My name is Alden." ((So sorry that it's so short!)) |
Codette smiled and sat down beside the girl. "My name is Codette Mason. This is my brother Jackson. I'm sorry to stare, but I love your clothes, they are beautiful."
Jackson merely lowered his head in a soft bow as his sister introduced them, and raised an eyebrow at her comment. "yes, that would be more bothersome then Cody could manage." Jax wasn't sure how he felt about this place. It was a little past unnerving, it almost worried him. |
