Breakfast was quiet, but Dean was quick to get back on the road and head for the nearest hunt. Ganking something would make him feel better.
Hopefully. |
Sam could see how tense Dean was, which was totally opposite of how his brother usually was after a night with a woman. So he hung back when the girls got into the car and grabbed his brother.
"Dean, what's going on?" he asked. |
Dean was quiet for a moment, debating if he could get out of telling Sam or not. Then he sighed.
"Cas popped into the room after Runa and I were done," he said quietly. |
Sam winced.
"I'm sorry, man," he said. "What happened?" |
"He gave me this look like a kicked puppy or something and left." Dean sighed. "I think I'd have preferred if he hit me again."
|
Sam hesitated a moment before he answered his brother.
"Dean... you know he cares about you, right? A lot more than he cares about anyone else?" |
"Yes, I know. The whole 'more profound bond' shit," Dean muttered. "I know, Sammy."
|
"Dean, I honestly think he's in love with you," Sam said. "Like, for real."
|
"No!" was, of course, Dean's first reaction. "Of course he's not. Don't be stupid, Sam, he's just a good friend." Not that Dean had believed that himself for a while, but dammit, he was going to fake it until he believed it.
|
"Dean." Sam gave his brother a flat look. "Honestly, the two of you are the absolute last to realize it."
|
Dean snorted and headed for the car. "Get in the car, Sam, before I leave you here," he threatened.
|
"You know I'm right, Dean," Sam said as he headed towards the Impala.
|
"No you're not," Dean said, getting into the car and turning on his music so conversation was impossible.
|
Runa blinked at the sudden change in tension in the car.
"Sibling argument?" she ventured cautiously. |
"Something like that," Dean muttered as he got on the interstate.
|
"Fun," Runa said as she settled back in her seat. "At least nobody ended up dead, that's something."
|
Dean snorted and kept driving. Fortunately family conflicts were rarely that bad with them.
|
Runa didn't mind that they were driving all day. It was sort of relaxing, even though she was still a little paranoid that Castiel would show up out of nowhere in the back seat. She heard he had a habit of that.
Sam, on the other hand, was just waiting for the right time to try to talk to his brother again. |
Dean didn't pull off the road again (except for lunch) until after dark, and then he found a normal hotel for them and got two rooms. He kind of hoped Sam would stay with Kyra again.
|
Runa, on the other hand, was kind of (internally, never to be spoken aloud) hoping to room with Kyra. Less chance of being smote by Castiel that way. But she could be a big girl and room with Dean if need be.
Sam was definitely planning to stay with Kyra, and had already grabbed his bag out of the Impala. |
Kyra picked a room and went in, not really caring who she was staying with. She stretched briefly and put her stuff down on the bed farther from the door.
Dean glanced at Runa. "Well, looks like it's you and me again," he said, opening the door to the other room. |
"I hope you don't hold it against me if I take a separate bed tonight," Runa said, setting her bag on the other bed.
Sam grinned a bit at Kyra and sat down to set up his laptop to search for more jobs. |
"Nope." Dean picked the other bed and set his stuff down next to it before flopping over on the bed and stretching out a bit.
Kyra smiled faintly and settled down, pulling out a tablet she'd recently acquired to finish configuring it how she liked. |
Runa flopped down on her own bed as well.
"I have to say, it's kind of refreshing to see a sibling argument that doesn't end with someone getting their fool ass killed," she commented. |
"Yeah, we try not to kill each other," Dean said with a brief grin. "Try being the operative word there. It's very tempting sometimes."
