"You have protection," Sam pointed out. "Cas put you off-limits, remember?" He pointedly ignored the fact that Gabriel had interfered some; he hadn't tried to kill them, after all.
|
"Yes, well, archangels have a history of destroying nephilim," Kyra pointed out. "So I don't think Castiel is adequate protection if an archangel decides I'm a plague."
|
"He might surprise you," Sam said. But he didn't push the subject any more.
|
Kyra shrugged. She wasn't going to hold her breath. But she did settle in a bit, since it seemed the impending
|
Sam knew the uncomfortable Talk was looming, but he didn't bring it up yet, either. Instead, he went back to skimming the local news again. He quickly left Dean a text.
Let me know when you're on your way back. |
Dean didn't respond for almost half an hour.
Yeah, heading back in a few minutes, he said. |
Something happen? Because Dean didn't typically just take off like that, and Sam knew it.
|
Yeah, I'll explain later. At least he knew Cas wasn't pissed off at him (much) anymore.
|
Alright. Sam wasn't going to push for the moment. He knew how to handle his brother on issues like this.
|
It did take Dean a little while to get back, Cas in tow, but everything was peaceful, at least. The only difference was the bruise Runa had left on him was gone.
|
Runa was sitting in the room quietly, sharpening her knives with the tv on in the background. She glanced up when the door opened and looked down again when she saw Cas was with Dean.
|
Dean looked at her for a moment before he went over to his bed, sitting down and taking off his shoes. Clearly he wasn't intending to go anywhere else tonight.
Cas just settled down in a chair, keeping quiet and watching the TV instead of them. |
Runa glanced at them both again before putting her knives away. The tension in the room was awkward, and she didn't want to be the first one to break the silence.
|
Cas, of course, didn't seem to notice, instead staying absorbed in the TV. Dean just got comfortable, half watching TV and half paying attention to the other two. Just in case.
|
After a few more minutes, Runa pulled out her phone to text Kyra.
jfc this is awkward. Can I switch places with Sam? |
Let me ask.
Kyra looked at Sam. "Apparently Cas and Dean are back and in the other room. Runa wants to know if she can switch." |
Sam blinked, then nodded.
"Sure," he said. "No problem." It would give him a chance to talk to Dean, anyways. |
Kyra nodded and picked up her phone again.
Sam said sure, he'll switch. I'll leave the door open for you. |
Thank you so much. Getting up, Runa grabbed her bag.
"I think I'm going to go switch places with Sam," she said. "Bunk in with Kyra tonight." |
Dean looked over at her and blinked before he nodded.
"Alright," he agreed. "See you in the morning, then." He didn't blame her; even he was a bit uncomfortable with the silence. |
Runa nodded and slipped out the door. A minute later, Sam came in and set his bag down.
"Hey, Cas," he greeted as he sat on the bed. He looked at his brother. "Welcome back. How was your drive?" |
"Fine," Dean said with a shrug. "Uneventful." Mostly, anyway. Not that Dean was willing to talk.
|
"Uh huh," Sam replied disbelievingly. "I know you better than that, Dean." He looked at his brother, then at Cas, and then back again, raising an eyebrow.
|
Dean stayed stubbornly quiet, while Cas just watched the TV. Neither was going to speak up any time soon.
|
Sam just sighed and settled in with his computer.
"Well I can see why Runa wanted to switch rooms," he commented under his breath. |
