"Bigger things?" Runa jumped on it. This kid wasn't even making her work for the information. "Any idea what?"
|
"Nope. 'Course, I'm not much of a hunter, but I know there's a group of guys who want to go find the thing, I think they're leaving today or tomorrow." He shrugged.
|
"Fun," Runa said. "Any idea where they're meeting? I'm kinda curious now about this thing."
|
"Town square, I think," he said with another shrug. "Should be a couple'a big trucks out there when they do meet up, maybe a dozen guys."
|
"Cool, thanks," Runa said. She glanced at Kyra. "I should go before my friends come looking, but good luck getting out of town. Hope it works out."
|
"Yeah, thanks." The clerk grinned a little at her.
Kyra was moving out of the shop already, having sent off a text to Sam relaying the information. |
Runa grinned back and followed Kyra out.
"So now we have more information," she said. "Any word from the guys?" |
"I told Sam what we found out, so I think they're going to meet us over there," Kyra said, starting to walk. She could see two big trucks parked off to the side, so she headed for those.
|
"Great," Runa said.
Indeed, Sam had gotten the text and forwarded it on to Dean, and then grabbed Gabriel to head out to the center of town. They finally had a decent lead to follow. |
It didn't take long for them all to converge, and then Kyra pointed over at the trucks.
"Look like the group we're trying to find?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. |
"Seems right," Sam said, nodding. "Good thing we caught them now, maybe we can convince them not to go out, if whatever's killing the chupas is still out there."
|
Kyra nodded. "I think you and Dean will have better luck, they look very backwoods hunter type."
Dean just grinned a bit. |
Sam snorted a bit, but didn't argue the point. He just went with his brother over to talk to the game hunters.
|
Dean didn't jump right in, instead listening to the hunters talking for a few minutes. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. Normal human hunter talk.
Then someone mentioned the size of the thing, and he saw the size of one of their guns. Well. They were expecting something grizzly-bear sized. |
That caught Sam's attention too.
"What are you guys going after?" he broke in. "There can't be anything that big around here, can there?" |
"Normally I'd say no," one of the hunters said, an older man. "But we found tracks, big tracks. Bigger'n I've ever seen before."
|
"What kind of tracks?" Sam asked. "Anything you recognized?"
|
"Looked almost like a bear. Definitely something big with claws." The man shook his head a bit.
|
Sam nodded.
"Well, good luck," he said. He glanced at his brother. |
"Need any extra hands?" Dean asked. "I'm kinda curious to see this thing now."
"Naw, we're good," the man said, chuckling a bit. "You just sit tight here and we'll bring the beastie back for everyone to see." |
Yeah, Sam doubted that very much, but he nodded.
"Out of curiosity, where did you see the tracks?" he asked. |
"Oh, a few miles away from here, mostly out in the wilderness where the sheep are kept in the winter." The hunter shrugged. "I know we saw tracks out beyond Shepherd's land. Not much out there to see, though."
|
"Like I said, just curious," Sam said. But now they had a starting point for their own hunt.
|
The man eyed him for a moment before he nodded, and the group of them got into trucks so they could go start their hunt.
|
Sam nodded to Dean and gestured for them to go back. Time to work out some logistics for their own hunt. He definitely didn't want to be caught unprepared for something with big claws.
