"He did start throwing feathers," Charlie confirmed, grinning. "It's about time. It didn't take Gabriel nearly so long to settle."
"For the one here who doesn't speak Heaven, what's going on?" Runa asked cautiously, wary of drawing attention to herself. |
"Throwing feathers only happens once an angel has settled into their vessel, meaning the host is definitely no longer home, and the angel can keep the vessel for as long as they want. They also feel things more like the vessel does, so it's more intense." Kyra shrugged. "From what I understand, anyway."
|
"Essentially," Charlie said, nodding. "When an angel occupies a vessel, he ties himself to this plane, half in and half out of Heaven. Settling happens over time, as an angel settles more fully on this plane. Kind of like acclimating, really."
Runa considered that for a moment. "Okay," she said. "And that's happening to Castiel?" "It's starting to, yeah," Charlie said. |
"Should be interesting to see how that progresses," Kyra murmured. "Angels don't settle very often, not unless they've got serious, prolonged business on this plane."
|
"I bet I know what that business is," Runa murmured to Kyra. "Starts with 'Dean' and ends with 'Winchester'."
Charlie just snickered a bit. |
Kyra snorted but didn't disagree.
"But this does mean he'll likely never leave. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, just a thing." |
"When it comes to matters of angels and Heaven, I try to stay out of it," Runa said, holding up her hands. She'd stopped dusting sulfur, but she was still pale and her eyes kept flickering black. "It's better for my health in the long run."
|
Kyra snorted her agreement of that before she looked back at Charlie.
"So you really don't want anything but to observe and pretend to be human for a while and see what's become of the world?" |
"That's it," Charlie said, nodding. "I'm not here to stick my hand in anything, metaphysically speaking. Just sitting back to watch and observe and experience."
|
Kyra nodded. Well, she was feeling better, somewhat.
"Alright." She glanced back inside. "I think the guys are still broken in there." |
"They'll be okay," Charlie said. "Give them time to get used to things, they'll be just fine." She grinned. "Though I'm betting a bit of comfort wouldn't be a bad idea..."
That startled a snort out of Runa. "Yeah, no, I wouldn't," she said. "I got warned away, I'm not going to test those limits." |
Kyra just shrugged uncomfortably. Sam was fine, and Gabriel was still in there, so he'd definitely be fine.
|
Charlie just shrugged. She'd planted the idea, it was all their doing from there on in.
"Well, I'm going to assume they're all going to head back to the motel," she said. "I got my own room there, so if you have any more questions, let me know." |
Kyra nodded. "I think I'm going to head back and settle in early," she said, glancing at Runa.
|
Runa nodded quickly. Yes, settling in and trying to relax sounded good.
Charlie nodded and let them go. |
It didn't take them long to get back to the motel, and Kyra settled in with a sigh, her nerves still rather raw.
"Well, that went well." |
Runa shuddered as she sat down on the bed.
"I shouldn't have survived that," she said. "There is no way I should have survived that meeting. I was so sure I would be smote on the spot." |
"You and me both," Kyra said quietly. "But we weren't, which is good. I think she--I guess I'm just calling her a she for now--was serious about only observing. I mean she didn't smite us, hasn't done anything out of the ordinary for the boys apparently."
|
"You had a better chance of surviving than I did," Runa pointed out. "Being half angel and half human." She was quiet for a moment. "Why us, Ky? Why is it us who runs into these kinds of situations?"
|
"We met the Winchesters," Kyra said, her voice dry. "These things happen to them, and since we're still with them, things happen to us, too."
|
"Speaking of the Winchesters," Runa muttered as she heard the distinctive sound of the Impala outside. "I think they're back now, too."
|
"Sounds like it." Kyra almost groaned. "I'm not dealing with them tonight, I can't. They had better just stay in their room."
|
"We can chase them off if we have to," Runa said. "I'm staying in tonight, I just don't feel like interacting with people any more right now."
|
"Exactly." And Kyra grabbed her Nook and settled in again for the night, slowly relaxing and getting back in the right headspace again.
|
Runa settled in as well, just trying to relax.
Outside, Charlie had found a good spot to sit back and skywatch for a bit. |
