"It's not worth it! We can find another way!" Dean said stubbornly.
"What if there is no other way?" Sam shot back. "What if this is it?"
"We find another way," Dean said stubbornly. "We've managed to every time. This isn't right."
"Dean, there might not be another way," Sam pointed out. "We can do this. You have to let me do this."
Dean shook his head stubbornly but he didn't actually say anything else. There was another way. There had to be another way. Because he wasn't losing his brother again.
Sam glanced at Runa, raising an eyebrow. Runa blinked.
"What?" she asked warily. "You agree with me, right?" he asked. Runa looked between him and Dean. "No comment at this time," she muttered, taking a sip of her coffee. "Come on," Sam said. "You're the only one who can get me into Hell." |
"Actually, she's not," Michael said, looking as calm as ever. "Getting into Hell is easy. It's what comes after that is difficult."
"In which case, it's still a good idea to have an antichrist on my side," Sam pointed out.
"Indeed." Michael looked faintly amused by that. "You seem to have your mind set." He switched his gaze to Runa to see if she'd agree to go or not.
"I want to end this," Sam said. "If you have a better idea, I'm all ears."
Runa glanced between them all, eyes wide. "I guess I don't have a choice, do I?" she asked cautiously. "Being the only one who can navigate Hell properly." |
"You could say no but it would greatly decrease his chance of success," Michael said.
Runa pressed her lips together thinly.
"That doesn't sound like a choice to me." She sighed. "Alright. I'll do it." "Wait a minute, let me get this straight," Gabriel broke in. He looked at Sam. "You're going to go into Hell, again, might I add, and stage a coup to dethrone Crowley?" "Do you have any better ideas?" Sam asked. "Do you have any idea what that will do to you?" Gabriel asked in return. "There can't just not be someone in charge down there, or else things will go completely out of whack." "Well, as it was pointed out before, I was born for it," Sam said, a little bitter. |
"That doesn't mean you have to do it," Kyra said quietly. "We could figure something else out in time." She was quiet for a moment. "Nothing says you have to do this, Sam. You don't know what you'll have to give up to do this, none of us do, not yet."
"We've been trying to figure out something else," Sam pointed out. "This whole time, we've been trying. This is the best option we've gotten so far."
Kyra sighed. "Alright," she agreed. "Say you do this, say you win. What then?" She looked at him evenly. Because even Crowley couldn't leave Hell for too long.
"Then it's a lot less to worry about," Sam said stubbornly. "Then we can focus on taking care of everything else."
Kyra shook her head but didn't argue anything further. She didn't like the idea, but she wasn't going to argue with him anymore.
Rather than paying attention to Sam now, Runa was watching the other brother.
"Dean?" she asked softly, a more than a little cautious. |
Dean was also resigned to the idea. He looked at her for a moment before he sighed. "Sam's stubborn," he said quietly. "Never could dissuade him once he'd set his mind to something." A subtle way of letting her know that she wasn't on the hook.
Runa bit her lip for a moment.
"I'll do what I can," she said. "If he really decides to go through with it. I'll do everything I can." |
Dean nodded. "Good. Thanks." Clearly he still didn't like the idea but he was resigned.
Runa nodded.
"Let's finish breakfast," she said. "Then we can make plans." |
Dean looked at his food before he pushed it away. He wasn't hungry anymore. And judging from her expression, Kyra wasn't either.
Runa at least finished her bacon; she wouldn't ever turn down meat, and at least bacon was meat she could eat in good conscience.
Gabriel took a couple of bites of his syrup-drowned pancakes before pushing them aside as well. Sam finished his orange juice, but that was it. Clearly, everyone's appetite had been ruined. |
Dean paid for the food and stood. "Let's head back," he muttered, snagging Runa's wrist. Sammy could go back with Kyra, he wanted Runa in the car this time.
