"We're well enough," Dean said. "You need to relax. Stay for a few hours."
Runa murmured a bit at that, incoherently, and just leaned on Dean. Relaxing sounded good. She hadn't relaxed for months, in Hell.
Dean sat down and pulled her down with him, getting her to relax. Clearly she needed it and he was reassured that she was okay.
Runa let him pull her down onto the bed. She was exhausted, and sleep sounded wonderful. She hadn't realized how much she missed snuggling in next to Dean and Cas. That kind of weakness got you killed in Hell, so she'd put it out of her mind.
Cas settled in with them, although neither he nor Dean slept. They just wanted to be there and cuddle with her while they could, since they didn't know when she'd be back.
Runa fell asleep almost immediately, comfortably settled between them. It was the first time she felt truly safe in a long time, and she slept deeper than she ever would have in Hell.
Dean just stayed there and let her sleep, keeping her comfortable, while Cas kept watch over both of them.
Runa slept hard for a few hours before stirring. She tensed for a moment before she remembered where she was.
"Gotta go soon," she murmured to them both. |
"Not quite yet," Dean muttered, pulling her closer. "Not yet."
"You know time's different down there," Runa protested. "I can't be gone too long, Sam needs someone he can trust to watch his back."
That, more than anything, made Dean sigh and release her slowly. He didn't want to leave Sam on his own, after all.
Runa reluctantly slid out of bed.
"He only sent me back to check in, anyways," she said as she looked around for her boots. "Let everyone know he's still okay and in one piece." |
"Good." Dean smiled a bit. "We're fine up here. It's been quiet. He doesn't need to worry about us. Neither do you."
"He worries because he knows you worry," Runa said. She was quiet for a moment. "And so do I. I wanted to make sure you and Cas were looking after each other, and that Gabriel is looking after Kyra."
"We are. And he is." Dean snorted. "He's been following her everywhere, practically catering to her." He rolled his eyes at the two.
"Good," Runa said. "Means I don't have to hurt him."
Dean snorted. "The only way I can imagine him being more doting is if she was pregnant." He shivered. "We don't have to deal with that or they're on their own."
Runa snorted.
"Well, I know we'll never have to deal with it from me," she said. "I am completely barren. But I never bothered to ask Kyra if she could have kids or not." |
"Let's hope we don't find out unexpectedly one day," Dean grumbled. "Because if we do, I'm heading for the hills."
Runa couldn't help it, she grinned at that.
"Oh yes, just make Gabriel deal with it," she said. |
"Exactly." Dean smirked, getting up and stretching a bit.
"Well, you don't have to worry about us," Runa said. "Nothing short of an actual, bona fide miracle is going to get me pregnant." She finished pulling her boots on and ran her fingers through her hair.
Dean nodded and watched her. "When will you be back?" he asked quietly. He hadn't really meant to ask that. Whoops.
That made Runa stop for a moment.
"I don't know," she said softly. "Once Sam takes over and the throne is secure, I suppose. Until then, I need to be there to watch his back." |
Dean nodded. He didn't like it, but it made sense. "Stay safe," he told her quietly. "You and Sam both."
