The Last of Us

If you want to play/are playing this game and haven't finished it, below has a few spoilers.

I did not play this game, because I don't have a PS3.

However,

I watched a play through of it, and I have to say...
This is, honestly, one of the best "zombie" games out there. For the interaction with the two main characters, to the graphics, to the interesting disease(which is based off of a real fungus),the 'survival' aspect of it, and the beautiful cinematics.

Then again, it isn't exactly a zombie game. But still. All the others are a joy with nice characters, but this really seemed like a realistic depiction of what people would do 20 years after an outbreak like the fungus in TLoU. Not saying any other game hasn't done what it did. It just came off as more real in TLoU. Meh. It's hard to explain.

I also really liked Joel. He was definitely not a good guy, but he wasn't a bad guy either. He was just a man trying to survive in apocalyptic Earth, and unexpectedly came across a possible cure for the sickness that would become his second daughter at heart after Sarah. He then throws away the salvation of humans because he can't let go of her. So many people hated that, but I feel like it's how someone would have actually acted in that situation.

I feel like the only cliche things about it are the constant deaths of their companions and the special ability to hear and see the enemies through walls, as well as the rebel group rising against the (broken)government.

Anyways, enough from me. Your opinions on the story line, characters, ect?

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 06-21-2013 07:12 AM

I'm enjoying this game so far although it's damn nerve-wracking at times. [lol]
The environment is outstanding. I can't believe the details of it at times. I like your explanation of Joel also. He really is just a man trying to survive.
In Survivor mode (I think that's what the hardest one is called) I think you don't have the ability to hear/see the enemies so there's that, if it's true. [lol] I only just heard about it, not tried it.

Which of the "monsters" is most interesting for you?

Mildee 06-21-2013 07:29 AM

Haha xD. I can't really say that, since I just watched a play-through. However, there were times that I almost jumped out of my skin because the player wasn't paying enough attention and had enemies pop up out of no where at him.
Same here. I heard that it was incredibly well-done in the graphics department, since PS3 generally can't give off such high definition with games. I wouldn't know xP.

Which I found most interesting? I'd have to tie it between Runners and Clickers. Runners would present something of an emotional provoking because I found out they're still themselves on the inside, and Clickers for their bat-like abilities and mushroom faces :P. I don't know much about Stalkers and Bloaters just seem to be the "big tough guy".

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 06-21-2013 08:18 AM

Hahah. [lol] Were you cringing every time the player made loud noises?
Honestly I think the biggest part so far that made me jump is when they went to that one town to get a car and there were booby-traps all over the place and didn't see one so Joel just walked through two of them and they blew up. XD

Ooh Stalkers, I haven't heard of those. -shudders- The Bloaters are neat, but I found their "bomb-throwing" kind of silly in a way. The Runners are most interesting for me because they freak me out the most. They're basically like disturbed people.

Mildee 06-21-2013 08:28 AM

Nah. He had it in a silent play-through.
Haha XD. I felt that if I had been playing it myself, I'd have done the same at that part. I pay attention in real life, but in games.. I'm always walking into traps or getting myself screwed over.

I think they're the ones that look similar to the runners, but aren't as human looking and you generally come across them in abandoned buildings. I agree about the Bloaters, too.
Mhm. Very fast and aggressive disturbed people xP.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 06-21-2013 02:18 PM

Aww, that takes away from the experience! XD
Lmao, at least it's just in games. That one caught me surprise because I thought they would just be on the walls even though where that one was placed makes perfect sense.

Augh, read a bit about them and they seem super creepy. Freaky things.
Yeah! I think creeping around gets you used to the Clickers in a way, but you can't sneak right in front of a Runner. When they start running, I just want to run too. [lol]

Mildee 06-22-2013 03:38 AM

Maybe xP. But the only completed play-throughs were silent ones, and I was really into the storyline, lmao. Didn't want to wait.
In the playhrough; I remember one being on walls but an infected ran into it and blew up. Later there was two on a door. I would have run through them. I know it.

I'm gonna have to do that, too :P.
Lol xD. I think the main thing is their moans. Sometimes I can't tell if it's really creepy, sad or hilarious. I say hilarious, because sometimes they can sound pretty obnoxious... and a YouTube comment about it had me laughing for awhile.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 06-22-2013 06:43 AM

Ah yeah, that could have been the very beginning of that whole traps scenario, like introducing the player to them. I thought that was pretty cool, but then I was thinking "omg, it made a huge noise.. [gonk]"

Yeah, their moans are creepy for me. [gonk] I can joke about the Clickers, but the Runners are serious business. [lol]

Stardragon 08-05-2013 05:21 PM

I discovered that the Molotov cocktail does rather nice against the runners and clickers.

Arkkath 08-14-2013 02:42 AM

I'm not playing the game as I don't have a PS3, but one of my favourite youtubers is doing a Let's Play of it that I'm very much enjoying. Also a direct hit with a molotov will kill a bloater by itself.

The Let's Play if anyone is interested.

Kole_Locke 09-23-2013 05:39 PM

The Last of Us was an awesome game, I played some of it but ended up watching a let's play without the commentary. Some of the "Let's Play" have the most ignorant commentators I have ever listened to. They constantly go on and on about completely irrelevant topics. I could understand a joke every now and then, but they run it into the ground. They constantly are talking which ruins the mood of the game watching experience.

The game was really sad in so many ways. Joel kind of reminded of a tragic hero but only he survives. Drunkmann the author? Had said that Ellie does realize Joel is lying and may decided she can no longer rely on Joel and ends up going off on her own. (Perhaps in a sequel) I wish I still had the link to that article... something about "The Best Failure"

I don't think Ellie would abandon Joel for lying to her because he was saving her life, I'm sure in time she would understand.
There are a lot of wonderful fan fictions out there already for this game. I wrote two short ones which I really enjoyed writing.

Those clickers are so scary..

Great game, very well done. It wasn't a long story, but it was still worth it. I think Joel was realistic but not a very relatable character. The ending was kind of 'oh, is that the end' for me haha.

Kole_Locke 09-24-2013 01:23 AM

Clickers and runners as well as stalkers are really scary when you get them coming at you in swarms.

Stardragon 09-24-2013 06:53 PM

That's when you make sure you have plenty of ammo and bombs.

And plenty of space to maneuver and you can never have enough arrows since they are like the silent shot for the gun. Too bad there isn't a gun silencer in the game.

I also cannot wait for the single player downloadable content! It will be amazing!

I also would like to see if they don't do anymore content with Joel and Ellie perhaps a mini-series... from 5 - 10 episodes CGI of course. This they could focus on live in Jackson. The struggles daily they go through taking care of the work that is required to take care of the crops, livestock, and other chores which would have to be divided among the inhabitants. Maybe explore other new characters that may live within the compound as well. Also the struggles with infected, bandits, and organized gangs of marauders that want to take over the place as well as internal threats and the work of maintaining relationships. I would like to see Tommy and Maria play a bigger role too and perhaps maybe give a few snapshots of the past from Tommy's perspective.

Have you upgraded all the pistols?

No, not yet. I usually spend a lot of time trying to find every single item.

Stardragon 09-30-2013 08:57 PM

The desert pistol you find near the river has a scope. That might be better than a silencer.

Kole_Locke 10-02-2013 05:08 AM

I hear there is DLC coming soon, I just can't wait for it!

Stardragon 10-08-2013 01:12 AM

Neither can I. I just got my copy back.

Kole_Locke 10-23-2013 10:22 PM

I'm more interested in the single player DLC rather than the multiple player DLC.
I think that story will focus on the unseen character that you read about through various letters you collect throughout the game by the name of Ish.

Kasumi 10-24-2013 01:37 AM

I'm interested in the comics and the letters that were left behind.

Kole_Locke 10-30-2013 09:54 PM

The letters left behind will definitely be clues to the single downloadable content that's coming up this holiday season.

Kasumi 11-01-2013 03:17 AM

I wonder what will show first? I want a rocket launcher or claymores.
