Solaria's Pixel Art Attempts - Feedback, Please!
Hello!
I used to be into pixel art a few summers ago, and my interest has been renewed. So I've been messing around with the Menewsha bases and decided to make some clothes (not to put in the shops, unless people really like them, but just to... make clothes, I guess). So this'll be my thread where I ask for feedback and help. It would be much appreciated! <3 |
CURRENT PROJECT:
http://i.imgur.com/XaH0avD.png Previous Previous I asked Shadami: what color I should choose, and she chose emerald green. :3 *Update* Okay, so I recolored it so it matches Menewsha Emerald colorset. Secondary Project? The dress made me frustrated. http://i.imgur.com/oRNl3ik.png Which variant of t-shirt do you like best? Anything I should fix? How do the folds look? D: Thank you! So, since the middle one seemed to be the favorite... http://i.imgur.com/g8TnGPA.png After I applied advice from Maria and Xuvrette! |

Maria-Minamino:
Would you mind helping my friend since I'm horrible at pixeling advice? :D Only thing bugging me is the outline. here's the awesome thing i got from maria who i think got it from someone else. It's the colors on menewsha. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...lette-Copy.png |
@__@ Where was that chart when I started?
|
*giggles* in maria's thread? :D She's got a fantastic pixel pointers guide on her thread.

I think you need to work on the shape at the bottom the most right now.
I googled strapless, sweetheart neckline, short, flowy dresses and found some good examples: http://ua-cdn.stylecaster.com/post/2...tail-dress.jpg http://d23gkft280ngn0.cloudfront.net...7746-F-163.jpg http://www.yesmybride.com/uploads/pr...id-dress-1.jpg With that - you should think of what kind of fabric you might want. A satin/silk would be more flowy...but in my last example...it's lace and you can see it's slightly stiffer. I think you are off to a good start!!! Also - as Sha said...check out my thread here: http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...xels-open.html I have tips and helpful things in there. It's kind of abandoned...since I became a staff pixelist I'm not allowed to post my progressions for all to see anymore...but it still has some good tips...and some of my old works XD |
Yeah, I think I'm going to take the highlights out of the skirt. ^^;
I looked at your old stuff and I was just in awe, I definitely need to work on folds in clothes. >__> Thanks for your encouragement! I'll keep working at it! |
You know who is the Master of Folds in Clothing? xuvrette:
She whipped my butt into shape! I still have a lot to learn but at least I'm better than I was! And thank you! You really you see the crap I made when I first started! You just have to keep at it, don't be afraid of critique and changing the stuff you make, and you will definitely improve in no time! You are really off to a good start already! One tip I like to think about is to get the shape correct before adding the shading! It's hard to erase your shading each time you change the shape! |
I was picturing more of a blowing in the breeze type. But yeah, I need to fix the shape. Does the sweetheart neckline look good, though?
I took the highlights out of the skirt. I might just take the 'shading' out altogether until I figure how to pixel clothing folds. I'm checking out the KawaiiHannah tuturials you linked to. |
The neckline is pretty good - but there is one place on the viewer's left hand side that hooks out and creates a corner and that looks weird.
I circled the part and then put what I would have done to fix the lines instead in the black next to the avvie: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psfb8a9aa4.png |
Gah! I thought I had fixed that weird corner! Thanks for reminding me- I updated the image to what I have now, but to save you from scrolling up, I'll just post it again.
http://i.imgur.com/uJSJFBz.png Before edit I'm still trying out some things with pixel clothing tutorials I've found, but I definitely know I need practice. Thanks so much for helping me, it means a lot. **Edit: Fixed the pixels for the right side neckline on the 'cup' so it didn't look funny. |
Thank You maria. I knew you would have much better advice than I could come up with. ^-^
|
I still want your advice too, though, Shadami! :D You're both helping a lot.
|
The top of it looks better...the shape I mean! The sweatheart neckline looks more even! - I still think the skirt at the bottom needs some work - find some refs of a skirt blowing like that :) They definitely need help!
|
Okay, so here's just the base color, no fold lines or anything.
http://i.imgur.com/M1OLJWS.png I can see that the skirt line bothers me, I just don't know how to fix it. Haha. The only thing I really like is the little flip by the right hand. I'll try some things and see what I come up with. |
OTL - don't google "skirts blowing in the wind" I just got a crap ton of panty shots XDDDD
But here we goooo: SPOILERMaybe those can help? |
This is making me want to take a go at another outfit.
|
You should do it Sha :)
|
Gah. baby kicking my tummy. I'm trying to think of the items i loved so much on gaia that i would love to see a version over here.
I'll come up with something to pull together. xD |
haha go browse on gaia?
|
This skirt line will be the death of me.
|
but that means being on gaia *twitch*
you'll get it sol. You're amazing at that kind of stuff. |
Don't ever give up!!! That stupid nemesis dress took me a year to complete! XD
|
That nemesis gown is amazing. OTL But being reminded that good things take time helps.
