The years following his adventure had been hard for Frodo. He was still a young hobbit, full of energy and very capable. He found that he could not settle down with a woman. They couldn't keep his interest for more than a night, then he'd send them on their way. Today was his birthday, and he groaned softly as a knock on his door sounded. He'd become a bit of a shut in lately. The only person he really cared to converse with was his lovely Gardner and best friend, Samwise Gamgee. He was rather unpleasantly surprised by his cousins, who were grinning at him. "Hey Frodo! Happy Birthday!" Merry sang, grabbing Frodo's hands and spinning him around. It was alway custom for large parties to be held by the birthday hobbit, but this year Frodo had wanted nothing more than a little peace. It was already beginning to become a little dark outside, and he could see tents raised in the distance. "Please tell me you didn't..." Pippin dragged the whining Frodo along. "Calm down Frodooo! Its a party, come have fun with us." Upon the arrival at said party, Frodo was instantly left alone, and he sat by himself, grabbing a pint and staring at the crowd grumpily.

"Aye, Mr.Frodo you alright over here?" The familiar voice came from behind him with a gentle touch to his shoulder and a soft smile of worry and concern.

Frodo jumped a good few feet, spitting ale across the table. "Oh! Sam!" He sighed. "I wasn't expecting to see you here. I'm fine really. I just...wasn't expecting such a large party. In fact, I wasn't planning on having a party at all. It seems my cousins had other ideas." He took another sip of ale. "How about you Sam, how. Are you?"

"Ah, well you'd think after all that we've been through, things would calm down. But seems as if they become more...." He stopped there trying to find the words. "Hectic." He laughed lightly and then sipped on his ale as well. "Just came with your cousins to see you and wish you a happy birthday. Seems like you're not so happy though." He said.

Frodo sighed and gave Samwise a look. "Yeah...hectic is one word for it." He stared off for a moment, then back at Sam. "It's not the in not happy Sam. I am happy. I have a wonderful home, great family, good friends. I have everything I need and most things that I want. I just think a little too much I suppose." He was quiet for a few moments, sipping at his ale again, head feeling the tiny buzz already. "I think about dying alone a lot. I may not be old yet, but I'm not getting any younger either. I don't have a wife, or even a girlfriend. It's troubling to think about. The problem is, I don't seem to be interested in women." He frowned again. "Their company doesn't seem to be enough to keep me from being lonely." He finished off the pint in one last swig. "You know what in saying?" His words were beginning to slur just slightly and he reached for his second pint. "How about you Sam, have you been happy?"

"Yes, I have been content after all this. Everyone here is ok, and you are too, Mr.Frodo." Sam smiled wide and finished up his ale as well. "Happy is a bit off on the other side of a large river, that I can't cross quiet yet." He laughed loudly.

"Samm...." Frodo was just a little over tipsy, his mind foggy. "You've always called me Mr, like for real...cause..." He hiccuped. "I was pretty sure we were friends...we're friends right Sam? You can just call me..Frodo...you know..." He stared his friend down. "What would make you happy Mr. Samwise? Hmm?"

"I'll always call you Mr. Frodo... Frodo." He smiled and grabbed another ale and started drinking it. "And honestly, just to see my friends and family happy. Nothing more. I guess...." He shrugged.

Frodo snorted, laughing softly as he watched other hobbits dancing. "Parties really are fun." He admitted. "And drinking is grand." He smiled at his best friend. "You know, I'm actually glad I came tonight. It's nice to see you sometimes when work isn't on your brain." He leaned back in his chair and kept drinking. "Well, that's mighty sweet of you, but maybe you should think about doing something just for yourself sometime, eh?" He knew his friend was too generous and kind to even consider it. "Maybe you could let me make you some tea sometime?"

Sam smiled lightly and nodded to his friend. "That would be nice of ya, Mr.Frodo."

"Then it's settled, sometime ill make tou tea!!" He smiled sleepily.

"Slow down on the Ale, Mr. Frodo. You want to enjoy your birthday not forget it." Sam laughed again and patted him on the shoulder.

He nodded. "I suppose you're right..." He set the ale down. "I wonder if Gandalf got to show up?" His question was answered by the blasts of fireworks. He smiled. "Guess so."

"Aye, when is he not around Mr.Frodo?" He grinned wide. "Least he's a good friend, too." Sam nodded and looked up at the fireworks.

"That's true..he does seem to always show. He's great." He glanced at Sam. "You're a great friend too ya'know..."

"I try to be, Mr.Frodo. I try." He smiled and sighed softly.

"Well, you do a very good job Samwise!!" He gave the other hobbit a pat on the back. "Well, I'm getting a little tired of all this noise. Want to go have dinner at my house?"

"Sure, Mr. Frodo." He stood up and held out his hand to him. "I'll help ya up and cook too. Unless you can function to cook?" He chuckled softly.

He stood shakily and took the offered hand. "A little help would be nice."

"That's what I was thinking." He chuckled again and help him home. On the way Sam was just listening to Frodo babble on about this and that nothing specific but he did bring back up the lonely subject again and how no girl or woman interested him. All Sam could do though was listen, as the good friend he was.

As they arrived at the house, Frodo stopped with a frown. "Oh Sam...it's so dreadful living here all alone with no one to hold me or tell me stories." He took his keys and unlocked the door, letting them in. "Since Bilbo left, I'm so lonely." He went to the stove after hanging up his coat, getting out supplies for cooking.

Sam hung his coat up as well, and helped him around gathering things for the food. "Ah Mr. Frodo... it doesn't have to be lonely. You could get a dog or cat." he shrugged lightly.

Frodo wrinkled his nose up. "I'm not much for animal. They don't talk or cuddle.." He sighed. "Maybe I should adopt a child? I don't know..."

"I don't think that would be a good idea either, Mr.Frodo." Sam laughed hard. "They would annoy you to much, I think."

"You're probably right." He admitted, also laughing. "I don't know what to do Sam."
