"I don't mind," Elena said. "Really. I can sleep on the couch tonight, no big deal." She set her cup aside and got up to go get extra pillows and blankets out of the hall closet.
"I will not sleep in your bed," Sherlock said. "The couch is sufficient, and the arrangement is more likely to allow us both a night's rest."
Elena shook her head, amused. "Alright," she agreed, setting the pillows on the couch and going back to get the blankets.
Sherlock let her get the pillows and blankets, even though he wasn't even sure he would use them. He didn't refuse the bedding, however.
"Anything else you need? The bathroom's right there, you're welcome to help yourself to anything in the fridge or more tea, if you want." Elena absently pulled her robe closed again.
"No, I'm--fine," Sherlock said. "No need to trouble yourself any further, I'm sure it's been a long day."
Elena looked at him for a moment. He wasn't usually so empathetic. But then she nodded.
"Alright. Rest well." She moved back into her room, closing the door most of the way. |
Sherlock just nodded in return and settled onto the couch. He was a bit tall for it: his feet hung off of one end, but it was comfortable enough. Surprisingly, he was able to drift off to sleep, albeit a light sleep.
Elena got up at her normal hour the next morning, which was decently early, and made her way into the kitchen to make breakfast and more tea.
Sherlock was asleep on the couch, the blanket draped over his long form and his curly hair poking out from under one end. He woke from his light sleep when Elena walked out into the living room.
Elena grinned when she saw him, but she didn't say anything. Instead she started on breakfast.
Once Sherlock realized he was awake (because it took his brain a surprisingly long time to come back online, almost a full minute) he got up. Ruffling his fingers through his hair, he stood up, straightened what he could of his clothes, and wandered into the kitchen.
