Dominate hands?

What is the hand you use all the time for drawing/writing?

I'm curious.
Most artists are left handed but I'm right handed.

Can you use both?

Screaming Mime 08-17-2013 05:37 PM

i write, draw and do just about everything left handed. I'm the only one in my family that is left handed, and I kind of like it. It makes me unique which is really cool. Not a lot of people are left handed that I know, so people are often surprised by it, particularly in school since I write a lot there.

CosmicFoxKitty 08-17-2013 05:39 PM

Well most artists are left handed.
That's why my family think's I'm weird.

Screaming Mime 08-17-2013 05:42 PM

:p I wouldn't really say i'm an artist. I like to draw, but i'm not to good at it sadly.

CosmicFoxKitty 08-17-2013 05:54 PM

Well practice makes perfect!

Risque 08-17-2013 06:50 PM

I'm left handed and I can doodle at most. ;_; What did I do wrong?

CosmicFoxKitty 08-17-2013 07:13 PM

Lol, you didn't do anything wrong xD

Ling 08-17-2013 09:27 PM

I draw but I do draw and write with my right hand. I also use chopsticks with my right hand too...

CosmicFoxKitty 08-17-2013 09:57 PM

I don't even know how to use chopsticks D:

Ling 08-17-2013 10:47 PM

I learnt two ways of using chopsticks, I try to use chopsticks the 'proper' way most of the time. Strangely enough, the first way I learnt to use chopsticks, I managed to figure out before I could say any words. Having said that, I did talk later than most kids.

CosmicFoxKitty 08-17-2013 10:59 PM

That's rather interesting honestly.

Ling 08-17-2013 11:10 PM

It is weird...I think I may have understood a lot more than people thought before I said any words. There was nothing physically wrong with me in terms of vocal chords and ability to make sounds with my mouth...and my parents actually once tape recorded the sounds I made before I said any words....and I would sing in tune to songs in random sounds too...lol.

But yes, I learnt to use chopsticks before I talked.

Flowery Pit 08-18-2013 02:05 AM

I'm left handed.

The most irritating thing to come across is that every time I use my school's tablets, they're always programed to be right handed and it's really annoying.

I have to always set up it's preferences, and shut down the little buttons on the sides every day.

But my sister is right handed and she's an artist too.

CosmicFoxKitty 08-18-2013 02:33 AM

I think left handed people are cool
If that makes any since?

And YAY! I'm not the only one!

Wonderlands 08-18-2013 02:46 AM

Boring ol' right handed. I'm sort of glad though because when I write my hand doesn't go over the fresh ink and smudge it.
My friend write with her left hand and she complains about it all the time, haha.
It would be annoying because a lot of things are made for right hands but I would like to be talented at art.

CosmicFoxKitty 08-18-2013 03:06 AM

Supposedly that's why Da'Vinci wrote backward...
Interesting fact there huh?
:P

I think being Ambidextrous would be cooler.

Ling 08-18-2013 03:41 AM

Yes, I think so too, about being ambidextrous.

I'm actually glad I'm right handed for the same reasons as Wonderlands, and while I'm not especially talented at art, especially digital art, which I'm pretty clueless in, I still like to sketch and draw. [:)]

CosmicFoxKitty 08-18-2013 03:52 AM

I eat lefthanded if that counts...

Lol XD And I mainly sketch.

Flowery Pit 08-18-2013 04:59 AM

You can always counter the smudging hindrances with dawning a sole piece of paper to forever be the shield to it all.

It happens with both hands though, maybe not as much as right handed folk, it can still happen.

But being left handed in a right handed dominant world, you learn to work around it. I remember when they made left handed spiral notebooks, and it weirded me out. [gonk]

If anything, I think the right handed desks are mean. Oh thanks, I have absolute no room at all for my other hand. We get those for filler classes unfortunately.

CosmicFoxKitty 08-18-2013 05:10 AM

Honestly I don't know how that is.
I always try to get ambidextrous items.
Have you ever tried ordering spirals and sketchbooks from japan?
Don't like all of their book stuff goes from right to left and starts in the back?

Antagonist 08-18-2013 06:20 AM

Right handed. I remember trying to learn how to do stuff with my left hand but I failed terribly so I stopped after a while of seeing my horrendous handwriting when using my left. [XD] My ball-tossing also was completely off-target (not that I'm that much better with my right...), can't draw, can't use chopsticks, etc...but I'm alright with using my left hand when it comes to spoons and forks though. [ninja]

@Ashtyn: It's the same with Chinese; all the books are from the right to left, so I remember I was confused when I first came back to Taiwan and started school and I kept flipping all the textbooks from the wrong side because it was so long since I had last read a book in Chinese. [lol]
Even more confusing is that traditionally, the writing's also from the right to left, so on the streets you'd see signs that are horizontal, and sometimes it takes a moment to make sure which way of reading it was correct. [XD]

Ling 08-18-2013 06:45 AM

Chinese is weird in that it can be written right to left, left to right, top to bottom and even weirder though less common, bottom to top. And because of the way chinese characters take up a square space each....it can be confusing for someone who's not that good at it.

Apeiron 08-18-2013 07:46 AM

I'm right dominant because that's how I was raised. Even when I was first learning to right, the teacher put the pencil in my right hand.
I wouldn't say I'm ambidextrous, but I've definitely been cross-dominant ever since I was a child; today still using both hands for most things. But for writing and drawing, I gave up trying to make my left-handed writing legible. (My right-handed writing is still getting better)

Mogwai 08-18-2013 08:47 AM

I'm a lefty, and I'm good in drawing, but that's not because i'm a lefty. I took my talent from my father who was a tattoo artist and he's right handed.

I do not agree that most artists are left handed.

That sounds really complicated and I would feel very overwhelmed.

Well that makes a lot of sense, many teachers don't try to put it in the left hand unless told.
