Gage's foul mood was noted by his entire family the next day. He had slept on the floor next to his phone, even forgetting to close his window. He woke up with a chill that only made him more short tempered. Maria, who normally stuck to her older brother, stayed far away. Gage could sense that his parents and especially his grandfather was silently waiting for Gage to feel ready to talk. But he had no intentions of sharing his story. Not only would he get in trouble, but he would be forbidden to see Davir again if anyone knew the sort of mess he'd gotten himself into.
Instead, he locked him self in his room for the entirety of the day and took turns sleeping and playing heavy music on his guitar. He felt the bat in him start to itch at some point and he figured it must have gotten to be night already. He was just heading for his window to go for a fly when he heard the trill of his phone which was still on the floor under the window. He had no doubt who it was, so he hit the button to answer the call, but refrained from speaking. If it really was Davir, he intended to express his irritation and worry for a minute by way of ignoring him openly. |
"Not in the mood to speak on the phone, you probably are mad too, but, if you want to talk, meet me at the graveyard" Davir said hanging up as he stayed hidden within the shadows resting easing the headache he had. Sitting there he glanced up at the moon in the sky as he waited for Gage to show up. Davir actually had a feeling the boy might not show up after the trouble Davir got him (Gage) into.
Gage tapped one nail against his leg in a vague melody after Davir hung up. It was his nervous and thinking habit. The other boy sounded okay. Though Gage had been intending to stay silent, he was unhappy with how quickly the conversation ended and he decided immediately that he would go and meet Davir. He was just about to jump out his window when he realized that getting there as a bat this time would be a hassle. There were no clothes waiting on his this time and he couldn't quite trust himself to walk there, especially since his mood was bad in a way that made him inattentive. With a grumble, he snatched up his phone again and called Davir back. "If you want to talk, you should come pick me up. Unless you have an extra set of clothes with you. I can't walk there."
Davir listened to the other boy raising an eyebrow "And why would you need an extra pair of clothes?" he didn't get it, then again it wasn't like it was obvious really, and how would he get the other boy? He couldn't use his motor bike, he couldn't just walk there, let alone fly, he had to preserve some magic of his so he wouldn't get a worse headache. Davir sighed leaning his head back "Well, can't use magic...trying not to. Can't walk there...I don't even know 'where' you live to begin with" he started talking to himself more than to the other on the phone. "Thinking thinking thinking" even though saying that wasn't really helping the situation "Alright, fine. I'll come and get you, but, if you yell at me before we reach the graveyard. I will drop you. Tell me where you live" he stated flatly being serious then hanging up the phone. Standing up he stretched with his hands over his head while yawning. "Time to go" he rolled his eyes as he didn't bother to focus which made him fly off right away almost running into a try, yet hitting the next one, and hitting the ground. Cursing himself slightly under his breath, he stood up and was able to fly correctly this time getting to Gage's house remembering the route.
Gage didn't understand why Davir couldn't just walk to his house, but he didn't press the issue. He thought Davir sounded a little off and it sounded like he was talking to himself. If it was going to be like that, he was definitely not going to explain his need for clothes over the phone. After the other thankfully agreed to come over, Gage told Davir his address as well as the fact that he should wait under the unlit second story window behind the house. If the doorbell was rung, it would be troublesome. Gage was intending to jump...or fly down to the ground, in order to meet with Davir.
Davir flew out to meet Gage though his mood became quite...well he seemed annoyed right now and hitting the tree earlier didn't help that mood at all. "Boo" Davir said floating there with his feet facing the ground, but, not touching and his arms crossed "I'm in the air in case you are wondering, flying is sort of my favorite thing to do, and I'm not coming any closer" he kept his arms crossed thinking it was pointless to pout if the other couldn't see him. His short hair was being caressed by the wind and the little moonlight kept a certain look amongst him.
The 'boo' made Gage jump slightly much to his irritation. He glanced out the window for all the good that it would do, a smile on his face. He was enjoying the annoyance in the other boy's voice. "Funny. It sounds like you're on the ground to me," he said. He'd already started stripping in preparation for flying. He continued talking as he finished and bundled up his clothes.
"Are we going to go to the graveyard to talk? That would be best I think. Here, catch," He tossed his clothes out the window. Then he leaned forward, a very distinct grin on his face. "You showed me your magic, I'll show you mine." That was all he said before he jumped down after his clothes, which probably looked like a bad idea considering the height of his window. It took less than a second to fully transform to a bat though and he quickly circled down to flutter over Davir's head. If Davir carried his clothes, Gage was perfectly content to travel like this since he had no intention of relying fully on the other now. Of course, he couldn't communicate that as a bat. |
Davir was totally confused now, why was the boy stripping, and why did he throw his clothes at him? He did catch the clothes, but, he was still utterly confused. "Uh yea, where else would I go?" he cocked an eyebrow watching the other boy not looking away wondering what he was up to. Davir bundled up the clothes with magic, he could call upon them later, and for now he could focus on- wait what in the world just happened. "D-did you just turn into a bat?" you'd almost think Davir was scared or something "Cool!" he sounded like a child getting a new toy or learning something awesome. "That explains, ALOT" he laughed and started to fly, though he didn't look where he was going and *BAMM* flew right into another try "Ooooouch" he complained getting back up again glad the boy couldn't see him, at least he knew he was safe there; he took off again heading for the graveyard levitating down making the clothes appear again holding them out waiting for the boy to take them once more, but, he would slip the bracelet on first.
Gage kept pace with Davir as he flew. He couldn't quite judge what the other boy's reaction to him was, but it seemed good. Since both were magic users, he didn't think Davir would flip out or anything. As a bat, he could 'see' much clearer than his crude human form of echolocation. Shapes were clearly tree, person, house, and a group of field mice beneath a tree as well. He had a hard time of even thinking of himself as blind when a human. In that way, he was able to clearly see when Davir flew into a tree. If a bat could laugh, he would have. But he just flapped his wings faster until he reached the graveyard. After lighting down on the ground not far from Davir, he grabbed his clothes and turned around. "Yes, I am a bat." He was silent for a few seconds as he dressed. Then, he slyly turned over his shoulder toward Davir. "This is really unexpected. The blind guy is the better flier of us."
"Huh what is?" he asked middle way through Gage's sentence and heard the comment as his face began to sulk "Oh shut up" he pouted like a child now, embarrassed that he could be seen, he knew bats could see; propping himself against a tombstone he sat down leaning against it and pinching the spot on his nose between his eyes to try and calm the headache. He should have brought tea with him- wait that is a good idea, then he frowned, he did this alot before meeting the witches, and the guy who saved him. "Go ahead, let it out, I know you're upset" that much on the phone alone was easy to tell.
Once the small joke at Davir's expense had been made, he felt much better. He calmly felt around for a boulder and sat down. He was actually feeling quite good until he was reminded that he was upset. All his irritation came dropping right back down onto him. "Of course I'm upset! You go and teleport me back home and disorient me, making a big deal out of protecting me like that. It's annoying! And saying you're fine in a voice that says you're clearly not. You left me not knowing if you were okay or not for so long and I couldn't even help you!" Gage ranted. Finally done, he took a deep breath and quieted. It was obvious from his rant that he was not upset with the adventure or the trouble it had gotten them into. Only the way it had ended.
"I act on the way I believe. I never think before I act, it's a bad habit of mine" he was going to say that the boy probably couldn't help him even if he stayed. However, Davir hated looking weak in front of people, especially the man who helped him with his fever, apparently the luring voice from Rosella caused fevers to those she wishes. She could probably even curse others as well, but, luckily she hadn't done anything too bad thing time. "I'm sorry" was the last thing he said as he sat in silence. "We're still friends though right?" he had to know if they were going to keep talking or not.
Gage took his time replying since he was still trying to get his emotions neatly under wraps. It was rare for him to be like this. Normally he was forever calm, or cold as others viewed it. He hadn't gotten angry in quite some time, but still felt he had a good reason for it. Davir didn't have much excuse for his actions, but that was for the better. Excuses were a way of not admitting that you're wrong; the simple 'sorry' meant much more. "Of course we're still friends," Gage said with a faint smile. "I wouldn't have gotten upset if I didn't care for you as a friend."
Davir smiled a half smile "Oh and about what happened at the witches house, I didn't know they were alive, and I wasn't expecting them. And forget about what happened" he said as he thought about the man who helped him, he learned the guy was his uncle, and that made him feel happy inside. Then he thought about the time he gave Gage a kiss on the cheek. He hadn't planned that one and his face was a bit red now.
"Though that whole witch disaster was a mess, I'm not angry about that. I feel like we went looking for trouble there, so it's a bit expected. I just hope not to get into another mess like that for a long time! I don't even know what happened..." He was starting to remember why he never went on adventures. This was a very good reminder to keep to his own business and comfort zones from now on.
"I'll keep that in mind next time I go to an abandoned place" Davir said not going to give up his adventures, this was the first one in a long time that got him hurt, and he didn't want to stop to begin with. "Sorry about the um, kiss on the cheek part, that was nothing" he lied like he had before, but, his voice had a hidden sound or something to it that would prove him wrong. Davir looked down at the ground relaxing until he felt he could look at the moon.
"If you go on another adventure, don't invite me," Gage said bluntly with no expression on his face. He was feeling very against adventures right now and he wanted to make it clear. He knew he would become curious and adventurous again before too long, but he didn't want to admit that just yet. At Davir's next words, Gage tensed up in surprise. Is that what had happened? He had felt something at his cheek but not thought deeply about it at the time. "W-wait-! You kissed me?! That was....I didn't even notice. Why?" He stuttered out, his hand rising to touch his cheek.
"Oh uh...nevermind forget what I said, I keep forgetting that you can't see" Davir was trying to choose his words wisely, though he wasn't sure how to, and now he figured he shouldn't have brought it up. That wasn't really a good thing to say, then again he originally did tell the boy to forget about it. "Did you at least get some sleep?" he asked looking over at Gage knowing he couldn't be seen, though he had to look away feeling his face turning slightly red.
Gage grumbled to himself without saying anything at first. "How can I forget what you said now..." he complained under his breath as he crossed his arms as much to show his mood as to ward off the wind which was picking up. He hadn't thought to bring a jacket with him and the thin long sleeved shirt he was wearing felt...thin. "I didn't sleep much at all. What about you? What happened after you teleported me home?"
Davir looked over at Gage "Well, I met my father...my uh...birth father" Gage ignored the part where he couldn't forget about what Davir just said to him. He could remember the fever, but, unless bugged about anything else that happened he wasn't really going to say in order to not have Gage worry over him. Though he didn't think the boy would worry, but, he didn't know him too too well either.
"Oh. That sounds nice, to meet him," Gage said. He was suspicious though. All the minor inflections that most people noticed only subconsciously, he could pick out with intent. "You don't have to tell me things if you don't want to. It's not like we're best buddies or anything." He let out a little huff. Now that his worries were assuaged, he felt pretty done with the conversation. If he kept talking Davir, he'd find a new reason to be irritated. He didn't like that he was constantly finding new emotions to feel around this guy. Emotions were something he'd learned to control for a reason because he always needed to have the utmost concentration on his world in order to move so confidently as he did. If Davir didn't give him a reason to stay, Gage was about to walk home.
Davir didn't waist time saying "Honestly, I've wanted to kiss you since that night we met on Halloween" he said as it began to snow (flurries) he could see his own breath in a cloud of heat as he sat there. Standing up while moving closer to Gage, he moved in kissing the other boy on the lips; sometimes Davir didn't know why he did things, but, as far as he understood he just went with the flow of things. Davir liked it when he kissed Gage on the cheek before and now even when he kissed him on the lips. To him it felt...nice, but, he was waiting to be pushed away.
At first, Gage just stared. He didn't know what Davir was saying. He wanted to kiss him? As in...? Gage didn't have time to think on it any longer than that because he heard Davir's footsteps nearing. Gage flinched ever so slightly as he waited, feeling that warm breath against his own face. He both knew exactly what was happening and had no idea. Then the warmth touched his lips. Gage was still for a second, then he turned away, pushing Davir away as he did so. "W-what are you doing?" he stuttered, feeling warmth flood into his cheeks so that he had to hide his face behind a hand.
"See, I knew that would be bad, but, I don't ever listen to myself" Davir stated backing away still standing up "I always act on what I want, I never do think about it, I just do it. Sorry, you can call me anytime, I'm going to just head home." Davir turned around walking away from Gage cursing at himself mentally 'Damnit, what did I go and do that for? Now I'm out another friend...sheesh I can't seem to keep any friends now, can I?' he kept going on and on in his head as he started his walk home.
By the time Gage could think of how to react, Davir had already walked away. It was just that Gage's thoughts were all in a jumble and he had no idea how to react to something like this. He couldn't say he disliked the kiss, but he couldn't say if he liked it either. He just didn't know. When he finally did think to react, his "Wait!" fell on only silence. Davir was already gone. Gage found that he'd already jumped half way to his feet, but it was no use. He just sighed to himself and started walking home, trying not to trip over every tombstone in the whole graveyard. "Damn...that was my first kiss too...."
