I'm still a bit sore at how I got treated at SIU...the classes, the dorms, the campus...none of that bothered me. Hell, I LIKED the people on my floor! I LIKED my classes! I was setting up to major in German! And then I pretty much get given a financial swirly, and one little bitch in the financial aid office actually TOLD me, to my face, that I shouldn't be in college if I'm that far down on the totem pole that I can't pay for college!

...that's awful. For the record, most people go to college because they aren't making enough money. SO, she should be quiet and respect people willing to try hard enough in life to go to college.

Yeah...tell her that. She was wearing about a gallon of lipstick, anyway...

What sucks is now I can't even transfer because SIU is holding my transcripts until I pay them back. I've given up pretty much all hope of going back, now....

Wow Taiyo thats horrible for her to tell you that everyone deserves a chance to go to college it's not just for rich kids, you should've reported her so she'd get in trouble. So are you guys ready for the next semester?

Somehow, I doubt she'd have gotten in trouble, because she was probably one of the rich kids. Sometimes I think that it would've been a lot easier if someone had quashed my college dreams when I was a little kid, rather than letting them stick around and grow.

If they'd tried to squash them when you were a kid it probably would've made you want college more. Kids are rebellious little buggers.

I don't know what I'll do now...I've pretty much given up hope of going back to school...now it's all I can do to apply all over for jobs. And even then I won't keep much--if any--of my paychecks to myself. Most of it will be split between living expenses and paying off SIU...

You'll figure it out, Taiyo. Do you have an associate's degree, at least? Or did you go full force into a four year? With me, at least no matter what else I do have an associate's to my name so that's been nice while I've been working for my bachelor's.

That's really crappy Taiyo, I'm sorry you had to go through that. And that bitch would offend me because I am one of those students who is low on the totem pole and needed a shit ton (and still do need a shit ton) of financial aid just to get through.

Some people can't understand other's problems no matter how hard they try. They're too concerned with their own. You can't take them too seriously, because that way of treating people gets you nowhere.

Anyway, that's all to say that she's a shit and you'll be able to go back to college at some point.

The only problem is they only want to hire people with experience...but how the HELL are you going to get experience if nobody will hire you?! I want desperately to at least go to the community college by now and get qualified for being a car mechanic, and maybe even as a computer tech...but right now even that is looking like a pipe dream.

Again, I should've been woken up to the reality of what would happen with college when I was a kid. I ended finding out the hard way that college is only for people whose parents are loaded, apparently.

Except it's not...you just got a shitty college on your first go is the problem, Taiyo. I know plenty of people with no money who went to college solely on financial aid. In fact, most people who go to college have to use mostly financial aid to get through.

Besides, like you said, what were you supposed to do? It's basically no college no job at this point in the U.S. And even then it's like...no master's degree no job, which is what is even further bullshit.

There must be a way to force them to give up your transcript. I can't imagine that's legal.

I'm not familiar with the US tertiary education system's funding methods but it doesn't seem right for the college to keep your transcript from you...it really doesn't benefit the institution in any way to keep it while you're still paying off the fees which you would pay if you could...

Well Taiyo I hope you figure something out, and they can't keep transcripts from you, the institution could get in trouble for doing so.

I suppose they figure it's a way to force her to pay her fees. Still, there must be a way to come to an agreement where she gets her transcript but still pays the fees. It's not like you can avoid those fees permanently anyway. You WILL have to pay them even if they take it out of your hide in a court. Keeping the transcript doesn't really benefit them, and it totally screws over Taiyo.
