I know the Piano and the Clarinet, and I am learning the Violin whenever I have enough drive to do so. Been too busy as of late.

I'm also a fan of drums, as I enjoy rhythm, but I think they would give me a headache.

I mostly enjoy making my own songs, as I can't really read music, so once I learn the sounds of all the notes, I just play by ear.

How were you at the piano? I was mostly only able to do right hand for a long time, but I recently learned left handed piano :)

I sing, and while singing is a valid form of music I don't think that the singing voice counts as an musical instrument as such.

I used to play self taught piano, and there was once a time when I could play with both hands together in harmony. Probably the most complex piece I managed was a simplified version of the Entertainer. I never had proper lessons and anything I learnt was based off the piano books my brother had from his piano lessons.

I did learn flute for two years, wasn't talented though, and because I had borrowed the flute I used at the time, as soon as I stopped learning I stopped playing.

I'd count the voice as a musical instrument. It's something you have to tune and practice with after all, it's just inside your body from birth.

What interesting thoughts. Shame I haven't play the piano in a long time, so I can't say I still have that commendable trait of self-discipline in that regard. It was weird, at the time I did play the piano and flute I was a lot better at the piano, even though the I had proper flute lessons.

I find that the piano, being a very simple instrument, is far easier to learn than some others.
Granted once you get into the complex songs... every instrument is hard.

Mannn, I play so many instruments it's not funny. I can play most to a level of keeping up with basic stuff.

That's true, I learned about that kind of software back in middle school. It was pretty fun, and I'm sure there are some amazing programs nowadays.

I'm honestly more a fan of physical instruments myself. I think I might need to get lessons to learn the basics of the violin though.

That's very true... it would be far cheaper.

I've tried the CDs my violin came with, but the way I learned notes growing up was through harmony, rather than learning where to put my finger. In band we would all play the same note until we all hit it.

Actually... when trying to teach 6th graders... sometimes making noise is the only way to get them to shut up and learn... [lol]
So via harmony it's pretty good.

For me I just need the sound, and then try to match said sound. Prefferably with someone who makes sure I'm holdin stuff right.

I'm a music major at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, I play the bassoon, saxophone and flute! Although my major is the bassoon. (: Kinda curious if there are any other musicians in Seattle~

Seattle? No... tad North (and I really mean just a tad) of Seattle, yes.

I think my favorite instrument so far is the piano... the rest are hard...

@The Wandering Poet- ahh, a Washingtonian! I used to live out there. Oly and Tenino respectively, although I used to like going up to Seattle to hang in the U district and to go to Goth clubs.

I play guitar and bowed psaltery. Well, I did, but early onset arthritis came along and it's slowly creeping into my hands. I also like drumming very much, but I can't claim to a great prowess for it. I'm a 'fun' drummer moreso than a professional one.

I had a band in school, and we played out a few shows, but then eventually real life happened, so we broke up. They were called Octopus Ride. It was a fun thing while it lasted, anyway.

I have a few of my songs up on grooveshark, if anyone cares to have a listen. Keep in mind though, this was awhile ago, so the style is -definitely- dated. xD

Hm, well, the two things I know how to play the best are anything in the clarinet family (I'm a huge fan of the bass clarinet) and anything of the saxophone family (tenor being what I usually play). Other than that I can play some piano, violin, flute, trumpet, guitar, french horn, and anything percussion.
All of that, really, because I was in school for Music Education for awhile.

Oh believe me, if my scene collapsed utterly here I'd go back to the West coast. Used to be if you were completely down on your luck you could pull it back together easier here in the Northeast, but that's not true anymore.

Whereas the Oly area was always good to me when I was jobless, and between scenes. I lived behind a mall about 2 miles into the woods until I was able to find an affordable rental, and no one bugged me. I could camp out, eat berries and be kinda feral, or I could go into the mall to wash up and use real bathrooms, buy at the food court, etc. It was like the best of both worlds.

The only thing scaring me off right now is the fear of radiation. Not just the waves of it slowly wafting in from Japan since the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdown, but also that nuclear facility up near Montesano isn't in good shape either. Imagine if Rainier actually DID erupt! It wouldn't just be volcanic damage to worry about then....
