"Well, money-bags is planning to use that thing in a nearby town. And if I'm understanding the situation right, the scientist-types have more than just one. This is kind of like a prototype. They're using the civilians as test subjects." Alexis was already moving, surveying the area and trying to get a better idea of what they were dealing with.

Clint swore under his breath. This was definitely the kind of mission that could go very south very fast if it wasn't handled just right.

"Where do you need me to be?" he asked, already breaking down his rifle so he could move quickly.

"Your best vantage point to shoot him when he exits the building. We need to get in there, and we need to take down the guy in the suit. Preferably without setting off the bomb. Hopefully they've got some kind of package for transport." Alexis got as close as she dared to the building, keeping an eye on the exit and listening as money exchanged hands and the group started to break up.

"Copy that," Clint said as he maneuvered himself into a better position to cover the door. He waited until the door opened. "Call it, Lex."

Alexis waited until she was sure the device was in a container. "Do it." She'd grab the container after he was down. And then they just had to get into the building, round up at least the four people still in the room, and whoever else was in the building probably. No big deal.

"Copy that." Clint didn't hesitate: his finger tightened on the trigger and the quickly re-assembled rifle fired. His aim was as true as ever, and the man in the suit jerked once before he went down. "Target is hit." Clint didn't watch the man fall; he was already working on packing up and getting out of the immediate area.

Alexis nodded. "Now into the building," she muttered, picking up the carrying case a little gingerly.

Clint made his way over to a window and opened it, slipping inside. Time to see what was going on in the building so they could report back.

Alexis made her way inside as well, heading up quickly to the third floor to take a look around. She didn't run into anyone else, which made her suspicious. Either there wasn't anyone else around and the whole building was a ruse, or there were people and they were all concentrated in one place.

"Location?" she murmured into the comm, stopping half-way between the second and third floor.

"Top floor," Clint replied, a handgun held at the ready as he crept through the corridors. "This place is way too quiet."

"Good, not just me," Alexis muttered. "You haven't seen anyone yet?" She stayed where she was for the moment, listening hard for any other movement in the building.

"Nobody," Clint said. "This is a research facility, so where is everyone?" It was very possible they'd heard the gunshot earlier, but he hadn't seen anyone else try to leave the building, which meant that everyone had to still be inside somewhere.

"Start checking rooms." It wasn't ideal, but it was their only option at this point. "You see anyone, let me know." She made her way back down to the first floor silently to start looking again. No one else had come or gone, at least not through the door; she'd triggered it.

"Copy that," Clint replied, going around to secure the immediate area. He gradually made his way down towards the the first floor, checking rooms as he went. "I don't see anyone, Lex. I'll head down and check the sub-levels."

"No one's come or gone," Alexis muttered. "This is very strange." She was quiet for a moment. "We'll both go check the sub-levels, the scientists aren't going anywhere, they're back to sciencing."

"At least we know where they are," Clint said. He made his way towards her. "Ready when you are."

Alexis nodded and led the way down into the sub level. On the first level under there wasn't anyone else, just a lot of equipment.

The next level down, however, wasn't empty.

Clint kept an eye out behind them to make sure they weren't followed by anyone. When Alexis stopped, he paused as well and nudged her slightly to silently ask what was going on.

Alexis held up a hand and motioned at the nearest door. She could hear movement behind it, someone moving around. She peered in through the little window and then shifted to make room for Clint. Looked like the original test subjects were being kept on-sight.

Clint looked in the window, taking in all the details he could.

"This is definitely not good," he murmured.

"Not at all. Must be reinforced somehow to keep them in there." Alexis huffed. "I don't think we can get all of them on our own. There's at least five in there." One even had a faint suspicious reddish glow under his skin, which made her nervous, because red glow meant Extremis.

"We'll have to call for backup," Clint said. As much as he liked taking care of things on his own, he knew when he needed extra people. "This was meant to be a simple in and out op, we're not prepared for something like this."

"Right." Alexis glanced back at him. "Keep an eye on this section. I need to head back up to ground level. And remind me to chew out a few of the SHIELD techs later that they need to get their shit to work underground."

"Be careful," Clint said. He didn't like that he wouldn't be there to watch her back for her, but she was right in thinking that someone needed to keep an eye on things down there.

Alexis made her way up to the ground floor and called for backup. It would take a little bit, but a full team was on the way.

"A full team is coming in, approximately two hours. We're to keep everyone in until backup arrives."
