Autumn couldn't help but sigh when she felt the painkiller kick in.
"I'm going to hear it from Charles later, I just know it," she murmured. |
"He'll wait until you're awake, at least," Logan said with a grin.
"Besides, it might not be too bad," Hank said. "Technically Logan started it." "Thanks," Logan growled, releasing his middle claw to flip off Hank. Hank just smirked. |
"Still, I know he's not pleased," Autumn said. "I c'n already hear the lecture..." The sedatives kicked in at that point and she drifted off.
Hank shooed everyone else out to let her get her rest while she could. Pietro and Wanda were told what happened, and a little later, just after dinner, Pietro took a plate in to the infirmary and set it aside so Autumn could eat when she woke up.
Autumn was dozing a bit when Pietro came in, and she woke up a bit more when the door opened. She blinked a few times and rubbed her eyes.
"Hey," she said. "How long have I been out?" |
"Few hours." Pietro shrugged. "Long enough for people to cook." He held up the tray a little and made his way over to her bed.
"Food sounds wonderful," Autumn said, carefully sitting up. She winced when she moved her leg. "So, is Charles waiting for the chance to chew me out?"
"Not that I can tell," Pietro said with a shrug. "But it can be hard to tell with him." He set the tray down next to her.
"He wasn't necessarily pleased with me earlier," Autumn admitted. "I'm still not going to apologize for it, but still."
Pietro shrugged. "You did what you wanted to. That's all anyone can do. He shouldn't be mad at you for that, necessarily."
"Did anyone tell you what happened?" Autumn asked. "I know you and Wanda were keeping out of sight and all."
"I got the general gist of it," Pietro said with a shrug.
"You and Wanda made it clear you didn't want anything to do with him," Autumn said quietly. "So I wasn't going to let him come and find you."
"I'd have preferred you didn't get hurt, but I appreciate the sentiment." Pietro shook his head a bit.
"This is probably not the only bullet I'll ever take as an agent," Autumn pointed out. "It had to happen eventually, only the desk workers manage to retire unscathed."
"Even so. We could have told him off ourselves rather than you getting shot. Keep that in mind in case it comes up again."
"Pietro, it's my job to get between the X-Men and any threats that are posed to them," Autumn said. "Even if those threats take the form of a radical extremist leader." She sighed. "Besides, I wasn't going to make you two face him before you were ready to."
Pietro just nodded. He knew it wasn't going to do any good to argue with her anymore. But he did find a seat and relax there.
Autumn raised an eyebrow at that.
"Bored enough to sit around in here?" she asked, just the slightest bit teasing. |
Pietro shrugged. "Waiting out some of the fireworks," he said. "Besides, it's quiet in here."
"Quiet's nice, after earlier," Autumn agreed. She stretched a bit, being very careful of her leg.
Pietro nodded. "It'll blow over soon," he said with a careless shrug.
"Still leaves me with paperwork to fill out," Autumn said ruefully, making a bit of a face. "Injury on the job, external medical attention, engagement with a hostile force..."
Pietro snorted. "Your job has way too many forms anyway. Leave 'em for a day or two."
"They pile up if I do that," Autumn said. "They pile up very quickly sometimes."
