"I might have to take you up on that," Autumn said. She sighed. "God, this is such a mess..."
"It is. But we're going to make it less of a mess because we're going to start getting these people," Alexis said, a little too calmly.
"You'll probably have a head start on me," Autumn said. "I'm still limping around on crutches."
"Still?" Alexis shook her head. "I'll drive them towards you and we can pen them in. Like herding cats. Only a little deadlier."
"I can find a nice vantage point around here somewhere," Autumn said, smirking just slightly. "Maybe see if I can find a spare sniper rifle somewhere."
"Clint will give you his, he hates that thing," Alexis said with a grin. "Although he might also want in on this. They didn't get to him as much because he's an Avenger, but I'm betting they're doing what damage they can."
"He and Agent Romanoff are probably having the most trouble," Autumn agreed. She snorted. "Though somehow, Tony managed to inadvertently prevent HYDRA from getting its hands on the Iron Man suits, you remember that whole thing with the Department of Defense trying to make him hand them over."
"Oh I remember. Tony's very protective of his tech, and it's a really good thing." Alexis shook her head. "So far I haven't heard the two of them complaining, so I don't know if Tony's been able to shelter them some from the fallout, or if they're too busy plotting. Either one is equally likely."
"Or both at once," Autumn said. "I haven't been able to get in touch with all that many people. A lot of my contacts don't want anything to do with SHIELD anymore."
"Sounds about right," Alexis said with a sigh. "I've tried contacting some people, most of them don't want to talk to me." She shrugged after a moment. "That part isn't so bad, though, mostly it's the accounts and credit and all that."
"Networking again is going to be a piece of cake compared to rebuilding my finances," Autumn agreed. "HYDRA really did a number on us."
"Yes they did, which is why I'm plotting-fantasizing revenge," Alexis said. "We'll work things out. It's not like we're the only ones left, there are a few other agents still. Besides Coulson and Fury."
"You mean Director Coulson and Fury," Autumn muttered. "Deputy Director Hill can't have been pleased with that one. Everyone knows she had her eye on being Director."
"Probably why she didn't get it," Alexis said quietly. "Coulson never looked at that job. So now he's landed with it."
"Makes a twisted sort of sense," Autumn agreed. "Not sure what there is left for him to be director of, though."
"Not much at the moment," Alexis agreed with a sigh. "But he's got the world's two deadliest assassins loyal to him, so that's a good start."
"This is true," Autumn said. She grinned. "It's either the start of a beautiful new agency or a terrifying dictatorship."
"One of the two," Alexis agreed mildly. Clearly she wasn't too concerned.
"You don't care which, do you?" Autumn teased, grinning.
"Not too much, I mean, my place is secure either way," Alexis said with a grin.
"But, seriously, I'll have Tony take a look at your stuff. I'm thinking that I'm going to call Coulson and get Natasha and Clint out to help track people down." |
"Thanks," Autumn said. "I'd appreciate it." She grinned. "Let me know what happens when Clint and Natasha get set free."
"Don't worry, I'll keep you in the loop," Alexis said with a grin. "I'll let you know as soon as I know anything new."
"Awesome, thanks," Autumn said. She stretched a bit. "Hopefully, things will settle down soon, so we can get back to more important things like damage control."
"And putting away every bastard that went Hydra," Alexis said calmly. "Yes. That would be good."
"I know exactly who to set Clint and Natasha on first," Autumn said. "Sitwell." Because that seemed to be the most painful betrayal. Everyone knew Sitwell, and everyone knew how close of a friend he was to Coulson.
