"You do that," Logan said. He smirked. "Yer still wired in an hour, come see me, I got just the thing."
Alexis raised an eyebrow. "Is it an actual thing or is it trying to pummel me into the ground? I might object if it's the second option."
"A spar wouldn't be bad," Logan admitted. "But no, it's a real thing." He smirked. "Like I said, come see me in an hour if yer still vibratin' out of yer shoes."
Alexis nodded, still skeptical, but went to go find a quiet room and call her team so they'd know she hadn't broken anything yet. And if she peeked in very carefully on Autumn, well, she just wanted to be sure nothing woke up her friend yet.
Which she doubted anything would, especially since Pietro was doing his best guard dog impersonation. |
"How are you holding up?" Steve asked when Alexis called. "Alright so far?"
"Yeah," Alexis said after a moment of hesitation. "It's... weird. I can't settle down here, and I'm worried about Autumn. But I haven't broken anything yet."
"You're still not used to having so much energy to burn," Steve said. "Just make sure to eat enough, or you're going to starve yourself without realizing it. How is Autumn doing?"
"She ate and fell asleep," Alexis said. "She should be alright soon, I hope. I was thinking I might stay for a few days to keep an eye on her and help her adjust."
"Do what you need to," Steve said. "Just make sure to take care of yourself, too."
"Yeah, I will. I can manage to take care of two people, honestly, I used to have to take care of half the team, remember?" Alexis managed a grin.
"Alright, alright, I trust you," Steve replied, a bit of a grin forming as well. "Just give us a head's up when you're coming back."
"I will. Keep an eye on everyone for me." Alexis grinned, already a little more relaxed.
"I will," Steve promised. As if he didn't do that already.
Alexis hung up and managed to settle in for the rest of the day. Hopefully Autumn would sleep through to the next morning, at least.
Autumn slept longer than that. She was out until the next afternoon, when she woke up slowly. She ached all over, and her head felt a bit fuzzy, but she felt better than she had in days.
Pietro was the first one in there after she woke up, and he had a tray with food, water, juice, the works.
"Hey," he said quietly, setting the tray down. "How do you feel?" |
"I'm not sure," Autumn said as she carefully sat up. The sheets didn't feel so rough under her hands anymore, and the room seemed dimmer than it had been before. "Different."
"Different?" Pietro blinked. "Different how?" He sat next to her carefully, looking her over. She looked normal, at least.
"Whatever the Professor did, I think it's working," Autumn said as she cautiously ran her hands over the bedspread.
"Good," Pietro said. "Maybe now you can relax a bit. And get something to eat. I brought a selection, I wasn't sure what you'd want."
Autumn sat up fully, only just now realizing how hungry she really was once he mentioned food.
"I'm sure it's all fine," she said, reaching out for the tray. "Thanks for bringing it, Pietro." |
"Yeah, sure. No problem." Pietro didn't leave though, instead sitting there and letting her eat.
Autumn finished the tray quickly and set it aside. She didn't speak immediately, just moving over a bit so she was leaning against him. The contact was comforting.
Pietro slipped his arm around her waist so they'd both be more comfortable.
"I was worried, when you never checked in," he said quietly. |
"We were pretty much ambushed," Autumn replied softly. "Grabbed us before we knew which way was up."
