We're just fine, thank you, Charles said, unable to keep from sending him some of the warm tingly happy feelings.
Remy just rolled his eyes, though he couldn't keep from grinning a bit.
Careful with that, mon ami, he teased. He opened the door quietly, stepping into the room. |
So far there were only three kids in Charles' room, but they all went to go tell everyone else. Charles sighed tolerantly and looked at Remy.
"I'm afraid the children will wake poor Crystal if she stays in here," he said, nodding to the sleeping form at the foot of the bed. |
"Probably," Remy agreed. "Can't blame 'em for bein' excited, though." Going over, he gently gathered Crystal into his arms.
"Of course not," Charles agreed. "Erik is supposed to be home soon as well." Which meant that Remy should get a quick look of the baby while he still could.
Remy heard the invitation for what it was, but waved it off.
"Le petite will still be there later," he said. He gestured to Crystal. "This one, though, should be gettin' t' bed." |
"Of course. Thank you, Remy." Charles smiled at him and settled in again, trusting Remy would be fine getting Crystal up to her room.
"My pleasure, Charles," Remy replied. He left the room again, carrying Crystal up to her bedroom.
Paige was outside of Charles's room, waiting to see if Remy needed a hand. When she saw that he didn't, she leaned against the wall. She wasn't sure if Charles wanted any visitors, but she could at least keep the kids from running in and out. |
Charles waited a minute to see if the children were going to come stampeding in or not, grinning when he found Alex and Darwin imposing some order on things.
You can come in if you want, Paige. I don't mind. |
Paige hesitated a bit.
I didn't want to intrude, she replied. I thought you might want a bit of space, before the kids manage to slip past the others. |
It's perfectly fine, Charles said. I've been expecting the hoarde all morning. He grinned a bit.
I distracted them as long as I could, Paige replied as she cautiously opened the door and stepped into the room. Even though she knew Charles didn't mind her being there, she still subconsciously braced herself, half-expecting to be told to leave.
For now, Charles didn't call her out on it, instead making sure there was room for her on the bed. He smiled and patted the bed.
"Make yourself comfortable," he told her. |
Paige sat down on the edge of the bed, careful to keep her hands to herself. She did lean over to get a look at the baby, though.
"He's adorable," she said softly. |
Charles beamed. "He's perfect," he said quietly. "A little bigger than Pietro and Wanda were."
"Yeah, makes sense," Paige said, nodding. "He wasn't sharing space with a sibling."
Charles nodded. "We'll have to name him," he said quietly.
"Erik should be back soon," Paige said. "I know he'll want to help you choose a name."
Charles nodded. "I believe he'll be home within the hour." He smiled a bit. "He's rather upset he missed the action, as he puts it."
"It's not his fault he had to go on a business trip," Paige pointed out. "And it wasn't as if you were alone."
Charles chuckled quietly. "Try telling him that when he gets home," he said with a little grin, shaking his head.
"You'd have better luck convincing him," Paige said, grinning a bit. "He listens to you. Mostly."
"This is one of those instances where he doesn't," Charles said dryly, shaking his head a bit.
Paige just grinned a bit.
"He'll get over it," she said. |
Charles smiled a bit and didn't debate that, instead watching as the first of the children came in to investigate the newest addition to the family.
